Quest!

- - - - - - - - - - -

Yawning, Pink exited his room, closing the door softly behind him, not sure Tamary was awake yet. Stretching, his tail gently twapping the door frame, he glanced casually around the room. Mid-stretch, his gaze stopped suddenly on the small, low table in the room. On it lay a peice of paper that had not been there before his nap. Staring at it a little in shock, it took the shiftera moment to react.

Slowly, stepping over, he plucked the note from the table and unfolded it, reading. Apparently some type of quest, eh? Pink's eyes went to the door. Had he come inside? No, that wasn't possible: Pink would have heard in a moment. So how had the paper gotten... Mmm magic again. He wasn't used to all the magic.

Still, that wasn't what was important. Folding the note, he slipped it in his pocket and moved over to the crib. Tam was laying on her belly, hand out, reaching with one finger to touch the side of the crib. Glad to see her awake, Pink murmured a good morning in a cheerful tone and carefully picked her up.

Though the baby looked happy enough laying there, she was not pleased with being disturbed. Squirming, her Croc eyes glared at him, fussing and whinning with short shrills and blaps.

"Young lady, how unlike you to make such a fuss. You're usually such a good girl..." Pink contemplated this as he moved into the bathroom. From the towel bar, he took a washcloth. "Will have to get some more of these..." He reminded himself, wetting the towel at the sink with cool water.

Still fussing, Tam struggled in Pink's arm all the way to the couch, back in her room. "You really are a handful today... Now, let me see those 'pearly whites' hmm?" Setting the washcloth down on his lap, his gently opened the little Croc's mouth with too fingers and rubbed one of them over her gums, pressing softly. Zeuleika gave a tempermental shrill. "Ssshhh, you're alright..." He cooed.

Her teeth here indeed nonexhistant. Her gums were a little swollen, a little red, and yes, felt hard to the touch. Pink frowned. He knew so little about such things. Removing his fingers, he lifted the washcloth, offering it to Tamary. Zeuleika, once her attention registered, took hold of the minerature towel with both her hands, immediantly puting it in her mouth.

Watching her suck and knaw at the thing, a little happier than when she was being carried, Pink considered what to do. "Well, it's obvious I can't decide such a thing on my own..." He considered the clinic in the building. He'd yet to go there, but was sure he'd find help if he needed it. "Mmm.. well... that's one option but.. I'd like to get this sorted out. I'll call a dentist office right now and get us an appointment for tomorrow, mmk m'girl?"

Looking over at the door again, he thought again about magic. "...Perhaps not... a traditional.. doctor, eh?" Smiling, he picked up the knawing baby and carried her into his room, where he could read and she could chew.

Tam's first "dentist" visit ~ Tale of troubled teeth?

- - - - - - - - - - -

The next morning, Pink rose early. Padding around his bed, looking for clothes, and "brushing" his hair with his fingers, he thought about the day's events. First of all, Tam was not going to like being woken up.

Still, pulling on his shirt, he opened the door into Tam's room, and looked over at her crib. The window behind her crib had the shades slightly open. Outside the sun had risen but was yet young, and the rays poored only gently in. Tamary was indeed, still asleep.

"I'm sorry, little one..." He murmured, wrapping her pink blanket around hier and scooping her up. Great merciful gods and she did not wake up. A pair of her small, chubby fingers were in her mouth as she rested her sleeping head on Pink's shoulder. Grabbing the key and his wallet, Pink headed out of the room and downstairs. It would be nice to get out of this place for a while, even if it wasn't on a particularly upbeat occation.

It had been necessary to make an appointment early, an average of an hour earlier than any dentist office in the area. But that was fine; this was not exactly a dentist.

Pink had his own trusted doctor. Though magic seemed to be popular enough now adays, it was not something Pink was used to or could wholely accept. He was sure the Mishap clinic could do something for Tam, but he wasn't interested in their sort of magic. This doctor was a friend of his own doctor, and had only been willing to make an appointment on such short notice because of such. Both doctors did use magic, but not of a kind that many used in the new age.

Eyeing the building, for they had walked a little distance to get where they were going, Pink paused to take a breath. Tamary had shifted a little during their journey and would soon wake. Stepping foreward on skipping garden stones, he opened the door to a rush of cool air conditioning. It may not have been a traditional doctor, but apparently he had the same idea about keeping the waiting room just above freezing.

A toad ona wooden desk looked at him as he entered. It made no sound, nor mood, just stared at him. A little unnerved, Pink looked around. The walls were covered with pressed and framed leaves, landscape pictures, and a painting of children playing near a pond. The office itself had the overlying scent of wood. Everything in the room was made with wood, including some of the frames to the paintings. Pink eyed the toad again. Approaching it, it became apparent the load was not real, but rather, it had a small red light glaring on his folded hind legs.

Not given much time to think about it, a door to his left swung open. A man of about forty, which a length, stiff beard, stared up at him. He was shorter than Pink by a good foot and required the shifter to look down. He resisted the urge to step back and not dwarf the other.

"Ooh, good, you're here. Hurry, hurry, let's hurry along. Time is time! Must keep on schedule, you know!" The beared man croaked. Not waiting for Pink to say a word, he hussled him along into the hall and down to one of two doors. Inside, things looked a little more orthadox. There was an examining table, though it lacked the cold, metal exterior of most, two cabinets, a desk, two chairs, and a sink. "So, this is Tam, and you are pinkdog, mmhmm? Yes.. yes... That would be it... Well, I am Dr. Figgle." His eyes, large and wandering, looked at little Tamary, "The children sometimes like to call me Dr. Fiddle though." His attention seem to pause for a moment, staring at Tam, before he came back to Earth. "So, what seems to be the problem?"

Pink hoped this man was a little less off than he seemed. He must have been though, to be referred so hightly. Perhaps he was just a bit strange... Setting Tam down on the examing table, Pink stood to one side of it. The little Mishap had woken up, snapping her jaws and looking about. Her eyes widened as she found she was NOT where she had been when she had fallen asleep. Her eyes seem to jerk about until the fell on Pink, then calmed. Still, she was not happy.

"Well, you see..." Pink's hand slipped into his pocket, feeling the quest paper between his fingers. "Her teeth haven't come in yet. Her gums are hard, but there are no teeth."

"Hmm..." Dr. Figgle mused, looked the baby over seriously. As Pink described the symptoms, the good doctor gently examined Zeuleika's mouth as Pink had done. He seemed to be undaunted by the fact that the baby looked every bit the feathered Crocodile. "I see..." He murmured. "Just a moment!"

Scurrying out of the room like a little mouse, Dr. Figgle disappeared, closing the door behind him. "Hm." Was all Pink said after he'd gone. About to pick up his charge again, the door abruptly swung open. Dr. Figgle hurried in the room again. His movement, except when he touched the child, all seemed to be quite hurried. "Well, normally, I'd say not to be concerned. Children do not expect to get their teeth until, at the latest, 18 months. I can tell she is not quite that okd just yet...But, it is also obvious this is not your typical child. It is my thought that the... reptile.. in her, in causing the extra resistance to the new teeth. Has she been particularly irritable? Chewing on things?"

Pink couldn't help a smile, "She's always chewing on this. As to irritable... now that you mention it..."

"Mm." He seemed to be thinking, then nodded. "Well, I can understand your worry. She is a unique case. In order to best make sure she gets those teeth in in good time, I suggest we use some... additional means, eh?" Pink could have sworn he saw a little twinkle in the man's eye before he turned abruptly away.

The doctor walked to one of the cabinents, the one above the sink, and gazed about. Closing it, he moved the next one. It was obvious he didn't know exactly where the item he wanted was located. It was with a resounding "Ah!" he extracted a pair of objects.

As he approached the pair and set them on the table, it was obvious it was not actually just two object. One was a small, unlabeled white tube. The other was a small tin. Dr. Figgle pressed his hand on the tube, "This is a typical gel used to soften the gums up... used regularly with normal children.. Ehh.. but it lacks the subtle drugs I don't think are necessary and has a little mix of, heh, magic herbs... something you are familar with, yes?" A deep chuckle, one imparting particar knowledge, fell from him like a dry husk. His hand moved to the tin, eyes on Pink. "This is powder of crushed herbs and leaves. Put it in her food. It will be quite safe and help ease the pain of teeth to come. Hopefully that will prevent her from taking any drastic measures to releive the discomfort, eh?" He chuckled again, and the dry sound irritated Pink's ears.

Before they left, the doctor showed him how to rub the gel over Tam's gums. "Be sure to use firm, but gentle pressure. Her gums may be a little swollen. Also, along with this, you should use traditional teething methods: cold, partly frozen washcloth, teething rings, just something she can safely chew on. The things I gave you should do the rest."

With a nod, Pink thanked him and bid him good day. Tam was looking around the wood smelling office as they left, already less fidgety than she had been the day before. "Brrrrr..."

It didn't took long for the medication to take effect. Just two days after her visit to the dentist and she could hardly feel any pain caused by her swollen gums

She was happily bitting her teething ring when it happened. When she gave her 226th bite, she felt a small prickly pain right in the end of her mouth and something solid that wasn't there before
She rubbed it with her hand and felt a newly born tooth on her upper jaw. It felt a bit odd to have something so hard and pointy
Suddently she felt a urge to keep bitting stuff. She grabed her ring and kept gnawing and bitting and slashing with an increasing strengh and determination

10 minutes later the ring was nothing but pieces of ruber scatterd on the floor an in her now fully teethed mouth
She felt happy for the swelling disapearence and the powerfull sensation these new pointy things gave her

mm lunch!

- - - - - - - - - - -

Tam knawed pleasantly the corner of Rapunzel, which had been left casually on the floor by Pink. She was thoroughly enjoying her new teeth, finding occation to bite and knaw on things more than before. Unfortunately, as she was beginning to notice with the book, her items seemed to fair worse with her biting than they did before. They tended to fall or break apart and tear, often in her mouth. Try as she might, she couldn't get them to go back together.

Earlier than morning, dolling about in her crib, her eyes came immediately on her stuffed green cat. The small plush was not made particularly well, little known to Tama. So, while chewing happily, she was greatly confused when one little arm came off in one hand and the rest lay dangling from her mouth. "Meeeh..?" She shrilled, pulling the body out to examine it. Dropping the detached arm, she continued knawing until nothing was left except peices of green and white tuff.

So now the same fate seemed to be doomed for the book Rapunzel, the corner Tam chewed on was so thoroughly ripped and scraped, it broke off in small peices in her mouth. Flicking her tongue, she pulled it out of her mouth to see what the odd flavor was.

At that moment, Pink came bustling back into the room. In his arms he balanced serveral plates and bowls, full of food. "Mm, time to eat, little-" He paused, seeing what Tam was holding. "Now, look what you've gone and done. Why didn't you just play with your rattle, or chew on your blocks." He moved to the low table in the room, squating down as he set out of food. "Now we're going to have to throw that away, ya know."

Tam eyed him curiously, but the food more so. This was no baby gruel. On the table, low enough for Tamary to crawl over and sit at, was a salad, half a sandwhich, and a bowl of fruit. Pink was getting something from the dresser and set down opposite her. On the table he set a piece of hard candy. "A gift from Silencer, eh? Now that you've got your teeth, you should be set."

Tam looked a the pink candy wrapper. Was a shiny and looked tasty. Having never eaten anything in a wrapper, she grabbed it and plopped it in her mouth before Pink could stop her. It tasted funny and made a lot of noise. It's skin seemed to be pulling off as she lolled it around in her mouth. Pink's hands were coming toward her.

"Nuh uh, the wrapper comes off first. Then you eat." He helped her get the wrapper out of her mouth, dropping the soggy mess on his plate.

Tam reconsidered the new flavor. The wrapper was gone, but the candy still tasted aweful. It was hard, and sticky, and she couldn't bite it very well... It was like punishment for her mouth. The little Crock spit it out. She turned her attention to the other foods in front of her. Pink was eating his sandwhich, leaving her to herself to decide what to eat.

She reached towards the bowl full of pretty fruit. She was attracted to the shiny yellow blocks piled on one another. It felt slimey and had ridges in it. Curious, she pulled the ridges in opposite directions, and the peice of pinapple pulled easily apart. Huh. Shoving both peices in her mouth, she half chewed, half sucked on the peices. They were sweet, sort of like the candy, but sour and awkward too. Like the candy, she almost immediately spit it out onto her plate, with the candy.

Frustrated by having tried two things and hating them both, Tam looked at the salad. It was a colorful asortment of vegetables. A pile of green, crist leaves was complimented with carrot slices, radish slices, and a handful of baby tomatoes. It looked entirely different from the previous two items and therefore, in Tam's mind, stood a better chance. Still cautious, she picked up on a small peice of the salad, a slice of carrot, and tried it. Crunching, she seriously analyzed the taste of the food. Her face scrunch up, eyes narrowed as she thought about it. After she had swallowed, a light bulb seem to go off in her head. She liked it! It was crunchy, and lightly sweet, with no slimeyness or sourness about it!

Excited, she set into the other items in the salad. The carrots disappeared first, tried and trusted. Then the radish chips. A bit of the lettuce was eaten, slowly, but she got bored of that quickly enough. Her eyes bulged curiously at the baby tomatoes. They almost looked fake! She picked one up and squeeze it. She squeezed a little too hard and part of the skin split, squirting red juice on her nostrils. Snorting, she licked the juice off her nose. She tried the baby red.

The moment she bit into it, her eyes went wide. A spray of cold liquid filled her mouth, accomplanied by the thick skin. She could feel the seeds in the juice, slipping over her tongue. It was almost slimey but... it was good! She like the way the skin was shredded wtih her sharp little teeth.

Before she began eating the rest of the tomatoes, an idea came to her. Giggle/Snorting, she grabed the remaining four tomatoes and peirced them on her new teeth. Leach tomatoe took up several teeth until she had a mouthful of round, red balls.

When Pink looked up, he nearly choked on his sandwhich. He laughed outright and gave her an approving smile, "Mightly scarry grin ya got there."

Tamary giggled and ate the tomatoes off her teeth. The rest of the lettuce disappeared soon after.

Excitment!

- - - - - - - - - - -

Ooohh, I can hardly contain my excitment even as I write this! The urge to jump to the end of my story and blurt out the (beginning) end is overwhelming. But that would be rather anticlimactic, wouldn't it?

Zuleika and I had just finished having lunch. She was chippering away in her half speech and flipping through the pages of one of her books (it was upsidedown, so I doubt it matters which one). At first I was combing out her feathers, contemplating the days events, but I had to get up to do a bit of "physiological housekeeping".

You can imagine my shock when, upon returning, saw Tam standing just outside the door to my room. Standing. She just sort of stood there, looking up at me expectantly. I said something, I'm sure, but I don't remember what. I think she must have used the low table in the room to pull herself up initially and then mastered the act of walking! Following after me, no doubt. Ah, my girl..

Tamary's new interest?

- - - - - - - - - - -

Tamary and I made a trip out to the garden yesterday. I thought she could use some fresh air and a bit of mobility outside her room. Our last trip to the playground went well enough, but Tam didn't take much to the swings. I wonder if she'd like them better now...? Time shall tell, I suppose. We went to the garden. I brought her pink blanket, which is still doing well, while her other toys begin to look ragged. Dressed in a light blue sweater (with the appropriate slits cut for her feathers) and warm pants, I left my little Croc to her own amusement. I read a book in the grass, keeping an eye on her.

At first, she seemed rather lost as what she should do first. She stood there, staring out, turning her head around slowly. I noticed how she never did almost anything without giving it a lot of thought first, which was interesting. Apparently, playtime was no different. I noticed those chubby fingers of hers grab a handful of grass. I knew what was coming, but I wanted to see. As I suspected, the lump of grass and soil went straight to her mouth. There was no need for me to call out to her: she did seem to knaw at the grass with some appeal but one taste of the dirt was more than enough to satisfy. I just chuckled and went back to reading.

At some point, I must have lost track of where my little Mishap had gone off to. I noticed this at first because, pausing from my reading, I noticed a single yellow flower at my feet. Thinking nothing of it, I went back to reading. However, more and more flowers kept appearing, making a small pile. When I finally put my book down, I saw Zuleika, face and hands deep in a bed of garden flowers. Surprisingly, she wasn't eating any of them; I could suppose she'd already done that. Instead, I watched as she picked a messy handful of the flowers and came over to me. Noticing that I was aware of her, instead of dropping them, she shoved out her little hand towards my face. Smiling, I was about to thank her for them when she said the most surprise thing, it shocked me to silcence. "Bird!" She nearly shouted in her own unfamiliar voice. Her first word! My girl finally broke her silence! The fact that she completely misued the word didn't even register in my excitement. I picked her up and we dance around the garden.

(Later, of course, I gave her a lesson on the difference between birds and flowers)

Arranging for the holiday

- - - - - - - - - - -

Pink lifted Tamary up with an exaggerated groan, her feather soft winglets brushing his thumbs. "Go on, girly, put it on the mirror." The Croc Mishap, a sticky snowflake sticker on her finger, reached forward to do as she was told, but was momentarily distracted by her own reflection. As she carefully pressed the white peice of thin plastic on the glass, Pink lowered her down. She giggled. "That's right, Tamary, snow. Go on, say it.. snnooowww." Drawing out the word, he laughed at himself and his Mishaps laughed with him. She declined to repeat the word.

Over eager, she stretched out her neck and bit Pink's finger with her sharp new teeth. Pink flinched and pulled his hand away quickly, "No." He stated firmly, "We don't bite." He scolded and twaped her gently on the nose with the end of his finger. She closed her grinning mouth abruptly and did her best impression of looking sheepish. Pink nodded firmly and turned, leaving her to enterain herself with her toys.

Pink studied the small tree he'd bought the day before. It was a lively green hue, unmarred by red dangling balls or roped of silver tinsel. Pink wasn't Christian and he wondered at the merit of celebrating a holiday so like Christmas. "It's winter holiday, Tam...", He murmured under his breath, speaking mostly to himself. Behind him, Tam was concentrating on the bookshelf, lion in hand, and didn't hear his defensive murmur.

The shifter looked over at himself in the mirror. It was lined with snow flakes, all carefully placed there by his own sweet Tam. Holiday lights lined the room as well, giving the place a warm, colorful glowl. With a decided sigh, Pink sat down to wrap a few more presents. They would celebrate his holiday earlier than December 25th, he'd decided, to keep things from getting too confused... or maybe a little later..

Rabid Ice Weasel
~Gift Giving~

Rabid moved down the hall, trying to pick out Pink's door. Ever since the HQ change, she'd struggled to get her bearings. She finally found what seemed to be the right door, and placed 2 boxes beside it. She snerked as she placed a small note atop it and made her way to the last stop of the evening.

The Note
Pink, your gift is a very traditional one for the Vavvian people. In Mei-Vaar, only one holiday is celebrated. This holiday is called "En Ai'aleth" which roughly translated to "The Day of Giving". For months before this day, the Vavvian gem shops are horribly busy. The people are buying the an'raei; gems that can be filled with most anything and set in jewelry. This traditions allows for each Vavvian to give and recieve a different an'raei each year. According to legend, the an'raei are enchanted and set a charm correspondinding to the meaning of the an'raei on its owner. It seems to be fairly true. Your an'raei can be strung onto a chain to be worn as a necklace or just placed around to look cool. Yours and only yours symbolizes bravery, and, no, I'm not implying anything. I hope Tam likes her totally gnaw-able plushie. I hope to see you soon!

Another visit to the dentist

- - - - - - - - - - -

Since Tamary's teeth had come in, she seemed to be getting along just fine. Regardless, I thought it a good idea to bring her back to the same doctor, just to be sure things were as they should be.

My girl's had a bit of a chill though, not taking well to the cold winter weather. I don't think it's serious but I wrapped her up in a thick white zip-up sweatshirt just to be sure. Her little scalled muzzle rubbed gently at my neck; It squeezed my heart, it did.

Mr.Figgle was just as scattered brained as ever. I have to say, it would press my judgement to consult this man, if it weren't for the sterling reference; He never seemed to have a great sense of gravity.

But, he looked over her teeth and found them to be as healthy -and sharp!- as ever. Perfectly healthy, he said.

Oh! And it was so cute. After Mr.Figgle came in and had been in the room a while, Tam watched him. When he approached her and repeated his name she said "Fiddle!" She looked so pleased with herself. I'm glad she likes him, that is reference enough for me.

Winter holiday! Presents!!

- - - - - - - - - - -

Tamary Zuleika awoke to the smell of tea, sniffing the air to catch the scent before she even opened her eyes. Raising her fist, she rubbed it sleepily over her face, blinking her eyes into focus.

She could hear Pink moving around as she sat up, but she didn't immediately see him. Pressing one eye to the gap between the bars of her crib, she made a shrill questioning sound. She could talk, a little, but didn't like to. Pink seemed to understand her well enough though, and this morning was no exception. A blond head popped out from behind the strongly smelling pine tree. She heard him say something that sounded like "Morning-" before he disappeared again, most likely into his room.

With him gone, Tamary's eyes wandered and were drawn to the tree again. Over the last couple of weeks, colorful boxes had begun appearing under it's green skirt with flowery bows that begged for stredding. She'd reached for one once, but Pink had thwapped her hand away.

Well, he wasn't there now, was he? Pulling herself up in her crib, she tilted her head to the side to peer down at the bars. Carefully, she climbed over and out, slidding from the bars down to the floor. It was a trick she had been practicing, particularly at night, whenever Pink left her alone.

After taking a dazed moment to turn around and get her barings, Tam tottered over to the tree. The big white t-shirt she wore dragged on the ground, catching under her feet and causing her to tumble forward, saving herself from landing on her face by puting out her hands. She made only a small whimper, still distracted by the glimmering boxes right in front of her face. Reaching out, she curled her fingers on one of the boxes. To her surprise, the box seem to have a... skin. It moved under her hand!

Her shock must have been written on her face, because Pink walked in, took one look at her, and laughed. "It's alright, Tam, you can open them today." Sitting down beside her, he folded his legs and pulled out the present she was grasping.

The white and purple paper crumpled under Tamary's insistant fingers. It took her a little while to discover that she could tear off the paper to get to the box underneath. The box presented a whole new puzzle. Pink sat back, sipping his orange juice while giving her running commentary and encouragement. Finally the box top was off and the tissue paper lay shredded to one side. Inside, Tamary's fingers curled into the fur of a white plush rabbit. "Maaaabit!" She stated, feircly certain of the word.

They moved on with the presents, opening them one by one, Pink helping her a bit more with the rest. There were all the advent presents from the HQ to open: a scarf, a yo-yo, and a singing penguin among Tam's favorites. However, the advent presents were all that was under the tree for Tam. There was a box left for her by Rabid, a plush hyena that made Tam bounce with excitment the moment she pressed her fingers into the short furr. Lastly, there were the gifts Pink had put under the tree for her: a sapphire jewelled pendant (that she may not appreciate just then), a pair of books, a porcelain dog (since she wasn't old enough for a real one), a decrative bonsai (as she had already shown an affinity for plants), a ducky bath towel, and plastic dragon figurine too big for her to swallow.

When the floor was quite littered with paper, boxes, and new toys, Tam was too tired to be bothered going back to her crib. Instead, she curled up on the floor, stilling wearing her oversized t-shirt. Near her head was her old lion plush, behind her was the bunny plush, and clutched between her fingers, the hyena plush matched her in size. She looked so cute and peiceful curled up there among her toys, Pink decided to leave her there to rest.

As Tam continued to grow, her lion had miraculously sustained little damage. Favoring it, she had somehow come to realize that bitting and nibbling would eventually ruin her loyal companion. Instead, his fur was beginning to lack in luster, clumps of it missing from his body and mane. It was clear from looking at him that, though Tamary had learned not to chew on him too often, he had sustained the damage of being thoroughly loved.

But for poor Lion, it looked like there might be a repreive. With the winter holiday, Zuleika had received quite a few new distractions. He had watched from the foot of her crib as she chewed and pulled on her new plushies, the wool of the sheep plushie dotting the carpet in small clumps. And now, as she lay against Pink's side, it was not her Lion which kept her company, but the hyena plushie which lay squashed under her outstretched left leg. In such an uncomfortable position, it would seem as though she had forgotten him too, if not for the fingers on her left hand, methodically scritching his short fur.

Pink was on the floor, as he so often was, a book in his lap. He'd bought a new book or two for Tam this winter holiday, in hopes of getting her to learn some new words, perhaps talk a bit more. She still wasn't fond of talking, and didn't prattle on like the few children he had known in his time. The book he held just then was 1001 Arabian Nights. He didn't expect her to be able to read such a hefty book on her own, just yet, but he thought it would be a good book for them to read together.

As Pink began reading, slowly and carefully, Tamary was still a distracted with other things. She tried not to be rude by outright playing with other toys, but she couldn't help staring off longingly toward the robot dragon and singing penguin with their movable parts. Curling her knees against her Care Bear t-shirt, she half listened to her guardian. Something kept catching her ear that she liked the sound of, her attention suddenly on the book. "Prince?" She murmured, a moment after Pink had said the word. She leaned foreward on his belly, reaching out to touch the illistration. "Pretty prince..." She said quietly. Her eyes roamed the picture, noticing the girl at his side. Her eyes shot up to Pink, "Who's 'at?"

Pink looked at the picture, "It's a picture of the heroine, Scheherazade, and her king, King Shahryar, as she begins her stories." The names were so long and complicated, he stumbled over them as he read them out of the text. "You see, the king wishes to kill her. Being a clever girl" he gently rubbed the end of Tam's snoutish nose, "she decides to distract him by telling endless stories." Tam looked at the book doubtfully, perhaps unsure how he could get so much from a picture, "Why's he want to kill her?" Pink replied solemly, "because he doesn't trust her," Pausing, he lightened his tone considerably, half laughing, "and because he's a silly man!" Tam laughed, thoughts of dragons and robots gone from her head.

Pink continued reading, skipping some of the stories for the more adventure filled ones. This pleased Tam the best as she bounced beside him at the most exciting parts. The tales of Sinbad seemed to excite her the most. "Can girls be pirate's too?" She asked, wide-eyed with curiosity. Pink laughed and shook his head gently, "He's not a pirate, he's a sailor. And I'm sure they can. You want to be a sailor?" Tamary frowned in thought, taking a moment to distinguish the difference between a sailor and a pirate, then deciding which one she'd like to be. "Yes!" She replied seriously, nodding her head. Pink chuckled and pet over her feathers.

They continued reading until Tamary grew tired and limp against him. Despite this, she protested when he moved to put the books aside. Scooping her up off the floor, long colorful tail hanging down, Pink promised to continue the story another night. "You'll never remember it if you sleep through it," he chided gently, laying her down in her crib. Moving to step back, his foot hit something. Glancing down, he found the hyena plush she'd been coddling. Picking it up, he put it in the crib, beside Tamary.

"It's sleepy time, Hyena..." The sleepy croc murmured to her friend, closing her eyes.

First adventure in the pool.

Salem Von Montegue
~Pool~

Salem came into the pool area, looking around curiously. He hadn't been here before, but he thought this would be the best place to teach Cato to swim. "Alright, Cato. We're here. Now we're going to teach you to swim, alright?" He smiled down at the toddler, leading him to the pool by the hand. Once there he put down his duffle bag and helped Cato out of his shirt before getting his own off, exposing his very scared up torso. Putting their clothes away into the bag he got into the pool on the shallow end. "Come here Cato!" He held a inner tube still for him. "Step inside here and you'll float!"

Cato came over to the steps, wobbling a little as he got into the water and stepped into the inner tube. "Like this Daddy...?" Cato looked at his adoptive father uncertainly. He'd never been to a pool before...

"Yes Cato, like that, now just hold on and you won't sink." Gently he pushed the toddler out into the shallow water, keeping a close eye to make sure he didn't sink.

Sure enough Cato clung and didn't sink. He looked very nervous.

The Pool

Down the winding stairwell, from hallway to hallway, Pink walked with Tamary in tow, towel in hand. The little Croc was humming to herself, looking around the new parts of the headquarters she had never seen before. The colorful mohawk of feather went up in down with her curiousity.

They came, after not too long, to a pair a clouded glass doors. There was the heavy scent of chlorine in the air so familiar with public pools. To a normal person, the smell was strong enough. To Pink's sensative shifter nose, it was nearly overwhelming. Coughing fruitlessly, he opened the door the herded Tamary inside, her curiousity making her slower than usual as she tried to look at everything.

"Come along, girly. Plenty of time to see."

There were plenty of interesting things to look at, sniff at, touch, in these new corodors. Pink was tugging her along aweful quick though, so she had to grab at only little bits of what her senses could take in. The glass doors, when they came to them, seemed huge. Her short little reptillian body didn't even reach the handle; She scooted a little closer to Pink, daunted.

Inside, her fear disappeared. Accompanying a very strange smell, but a good smell, was the largest body of water Tam had ever set eyes on in her short life. Energy shot through her, joy thumping her thick tail against Pink's leg.

"Wata! Wata! Wata!" Immediately she moved to make a run for it.

Pink smiled, hearing her gasp of glee upon seeing the pool. He took a firm hold of the bunny-headed white towel she wore around her, to keep her from running. "Now, don't run. See the ground? It's wet. You'll fall."

Walking her over to the pool, he took her bunny towel and his own, and layed it on a chair. "Careful now, you don't know how to swim yet. No! Don't jump in, this isn't the bath... Wait a sec while I get in."

Unfortunately, now came the aweful part. Tam may have loved the water, but for Pink, it was torture. His short spotted tail swished behind him, shaking his head once. He had to love Tam to be willing to do this. Sitting on the edge, he plopped himself into the water with a little shiver.

Returning to the edge of the pool, he picked up a floaty. It was a white, inflatable tube. It was relatively normal, though it had swimmy feet, so she could sit inside it safely, along with a unicorn "tail" and "head" attached to two ends. Lifting Tam into the water, he set her inside the creative contraption.

Tam wasn't sure she liked this new toy Pink had put her inside. It was troublesome, and large, and kept her from splashing around too much.

However, after Pink gently gave her a push into the shallow end, Tamary began to get a handle on it. She found that she could move herself about depending on which direction she flailed; Getting it to go where she wanted was another matter.

Pink watched her float away nervously. He knew she liked the water, but she'd never been in a pool before, never learned how to swim. Turning his head, he spotted the other occupant of the pool he'd noticed when they'd come in. It must have been his Mishap floating around not too far from his Tam.

"Hello there," he waved to the other guardian.

Salem Von Montegue
Salem blinked as he was adressed. "Oh, hello. I haven't met you before. My name is Salem. I'm kinda new around here. This here is my little Cato. He grew just yesterday." Salem seemed quite proud of his little spider mishap, watching him fondly. "Uh..." He turned his attention back to the other. "Who might you be? And who is the little cutie with you?" He smiled as he looked over at Tamary, his tail slowly swaying through the water, fur swishing gracfully as he did.

Cato on the other hand looked at the two that came in next curiously. His odd double eyes however ended up sticking to Tam. She looked kinda funny... And what was that she was ridding. He had seen things like that back at home. Unacorns? Yeah... Something like that... But they didn't swim that good. And it looked funny too... He wanted a better look at them. Wrapping his second set of arms around the tube he flailed the other four, getting nowhere. Alright... That wasn't working... Now he tried to move both his main set of arms and his back arms at the same time in the same way. There we go! Ha! And so he quickly made his way to Tam. "Whatter youuu..? I'mah Cato." He was a blunt little thing wasn't he. It didn't end there though. He even went so far as to reach out with his main hands and take a feel of Tam's cute little snout.

The shifter smiled, offering his hand as he grew close enough to do so. "I'm Pink," he motioned to the flailing green Croc, "That's Tamary Zuleika...'fraid she doesn't know how to swim yet.." He laughed half to himself and looked back at Salem. "We mostly keep to ourselves, haven't met many other guardians or Mishaps.. Good to meet you!"

Tamary looked over at the strange grey Mishap moving towards her. She trilled queitly, unnerved by the double sets of eyes and arms. Curious by nature, she didn't mind examinging him from afar, but, to her concern, he began to move closer. Though she was wary, she couldn't help being impressed by how quickly he moved! "I'm a Tamary," she stated with confidence. "Cato," she repeated. Once again she rolled her eyes at the double arms, "what're you?" Her tail swished in the water behind her.

Salem Von Montegue
"Pleasure to meet you. I'm kinda new around here and haven't met many people either... I'm going out with Catherine if you've met her. She's the one that takes care of Aphrodite. Heh, I guess you'll be seeing more of me though. I just got word that I was accepted as the Care of Magical Creatures teacher. It's going to be an optional class for these little guys, but I hope they'll be interested. Ya see, I run an adoption home myself for magical creatures so I'm going to be bringing in some of them. I thought it would be good for everyone to meet. Well... You're aparently about as human as I am. I'm a catfolk. What might you be? If you don't mind me askin' of course." Well... He seemed friendly enough. He shook the other's hand as he spoke to him happily.

Cato smiled as he ran his hands over the little croc's scales, not paying to much attention to her as he answered her question. "Ssspiiiiiderrrrr..." His hands moved to the top of her head now, his smile widening as he found soft feathers. "Pwitty..." Well... That was sweet of him. That is to say, up until... "Mine!!" And with no further warning he used his new found sticky powers to latch onto the prettiest feather he could see and rip it right off her head, smiling down at it in his hand. So pretty! "Mine."

The moment he heard the word Cato said best Salem's eyes widened. "Oh, no..." He was too late however... Cato had taken the feather he wanted. "Cato, no! Ugggh... Cato what have I told you?! You can't keep doing this! You can't just take other people's things and you can't hurt people! It's wrong!" He had no other choice but to leave Pink to tend to poor Tam as he grabbed the inner tube the spider mishap was clinging to and pulled it quickly away from the other to make sure he couldn't reach her again.

Tamary was a mellow child, and though she was suspicious of the strange two handed creature, she allowed him to pet her nose. She wasn't altogether altruistic, as it did feel nice. When it fingers got to close to her feathers, she gave an allarmed shrill, but it was too late! One of her sensitive feathers had been tugged uncermoniously from her poor head, causing pain to shoot through her head.

It seemed as though, for a moment, she wouldn't react. She was still, staring at the other wide eyed. Then one noticed her eyes slowly welling with tears. They grew and spilled over onto her cheeks as her first small gasping cry started. It hurt so much, that horrible boy!

Pink nodded politely as the other talked on, keeping one eye on Tamary. "Er, I'm a shifter..hyena.. shifter. Congrats on the job.. suppose I'll be seeing more of you, then."

There was a commotion behind him. He heard the Spider Mishap declare something his, and Salem's horrified expression. He turned to see one of Zuleika'a precious feathers between Cato's fingers. Horrified, he tried to rush to Tam's side, but the damn water made it hard for him to do so. He reached her just as the wailing began to start. It was a quiet wailing, mostly from pain and the shock of having a peice of herself in another's hand.

"Sshhh..girly, you're alright, you're alright," Pink cooed, picking her up, innertube and all. She wailed a few more times, and rest her head against his chest to cry quietly for a few more minutes. Pink felt bad; he'd wanted her to enjoy her first time at the pool but now it had been just about ruined. He looked down at his girl, wondering if he should take her back to the room. When he looked, she had calmed, merely clinging to him. Fortunately, she was a quiet girl and never caused too much of a fuss. Her reptillian cheeks had been spared the stain of tears. "Zule okay now?"

Tam was feeling better, but she didn't want to admit it. She was safe huddled against Pink. She was afraid if he left her in the water again, the mean spider boy might get her. She rubbed a chubby hand under her eye, pouting, "I dun like 'im."

Running down the hallway, with a towel on his back. Was the 10 foot long toddler of a green dragon we have come to know as Garreth. Flapping his wings to give him more speed, he rushed his way towards the open door that lead to the pool.

CLACK! CLACK! CLACK! CLACK! CLACK! CLACK! CLACK! CLACK!

"Ahh!"

"I'm gonna get you!"

"AHH! MAMA! SHE'S DOING IT AGAIN!!"

CLACK! CLACK! CLACK! CLA- In mid stomp the toddler was caught, hanging by the seat of her bloomers. "Awww... Bax you're no fun."

" And you shouldn't scare you're brother." A cool voice, thick with a english undertone came from his mouth, the tall pale catfolk wore a pair of black swimtrunks and a simple white t-shirt. How was he talked into this again, oh yeah.. guilt.

The snow maiden clad in a light blue tube tob and navy bloomers raspberried the the tall pale catfolk. "Nyah nyah."

Aphrodite frowned, crossing her arms over her flat chest. Clinging to Al who was wearing a small innertube, she herself was sporting a white one piece with a pink heart in the middle of her chest. "Nari-chan, that was mean... " Flying in speed with the tall pale catflok named Baxterfullous, she turned to see where Catherine had gone. "Mama?"

"I'm comming!" Came a voice down the hall, There came catherine in a skirted red one piece bathing suit, in her arms with her bag filled with towels and floaties that needed to be blown up. "Sorry.. I couldn't find my goggles." She laughed a bit. "Now now, go in everyone."

Garreth, already inside stopped dead in his tracks, watching the screaming Croc-Mishap. Edging his way over slwoly he peered up at Pink and the small Tam. "She ok?" The young dragon asked shyly, he hadn't seen another reptile like himself... unless you counted Ardith but she was a poohead.

Catherine blinked, making her way into the pool area. She smiled as soon as she saw Salem, but then frowned as she heard the crying.. and then spotted the cause. Shaking her head, she made her way to Salem and Cato. "Nice first impression." She mused.

Aphrodite blinked flying her way over to her mother, sitting on her head. She would wait until the unpleasant moment had passed to show off her new size.

Baxterfullous had to restrain himself from tossing Nariko into the deep-end. No, bad Baxterfullous.. bad.

Cato blinked as he was being scolded. Now what?! "Mine!" He clutched the feather as he realized what was going on. It was his now! It's not like it could be put back! "Is mine! Miiiiine!" He pouted up at his Daddy, clinging to the feather tightly.

The blonde catfolk sighed as he pried the little fingers open and took the feather away. "No Cato! It's not yours!" He blinked, too busy with his little one to notice the other's had getten there. "Oh... Hey Ca... Shut up..." He scowled, reaching up to give her the feather and pulling the spider mishap over to her. "Could you hold these...?" Poor Salem looked a little more stressed then usual, but he was still doing a pretty good job of holding himself together. Hm...? Who was that? He hadn't seen that Catfolk hanging around. What was he doing with Catherine? A bit of a jealous streak hitting him, but he was a little busy at the moment. He'd ask about it in a second. "Pink, I'm so sorry... He has a really bad habbit of just taking things. That isn't limited to just objects either... I'm so so sorry. Tam, Sweety, are you okay? I'm really sorry about this... You don't have to play with Cato anymore if you don't want to. Ummm... Hey! How about a little present to make up for it? You can ask for anything you want, and I'll try to get it for you!" He wanted to be friends with everyone so he was really trying his best.

pinkdog
Pink blinked, looking up as he heard several creatures enter the room. The dragon, the girl child, the small Mishap, and... a pale, handsome cat man? Pink had little time to admire, as the dragon had made his way into the water and was begging his attention.

Pink smiled, "She'll be fine... Looks like she's already taken an interest in you."

Indeed, the little Croc had stopped crying, and stared over at Gareth with wide-eyed curiosity. She had a particular fondness for other reptiles. However, her recent misadventure kept her curiosity in check, and she continued to huddle against the safety of Pink's chest.

Pink watched out of the corner of his eye as Cato was dealt with. The shifter thought to himself that the spider Mishap was lucky he was not his gaurdian. Pink was not known for taking discipline lightly. The "catfolk" was approaching him, an appologetic look on his face.

Present? Zuleika stared at him. Though she spoke rarely, she knew a great many words. Like most children, "present" was amongst her favorites. "Book!" She spouted out before Pink had a chance to stop her. The feathers on her head had lifted just a bit, colorful tail swishing gently in the water behind her.

Pink gave a short laugh, dropping his hand onto Zuleika's snout, "No, no, that's fine. Thank you Salem, but she doesn't need anything, really." He wasn't really sure what he could reply to the comments on Cato's behavior; he thought it best to say nothing. Looking down at Tamary again, he dropped the hand from her snout. "Ready to swim, again? Cato wont get you," he gestured his free hand toward the captured Mishap. "You see?"

Salem Von Montegue
Salem smiled as the little girl perked up at the thought of a new book. He didn't argue with Pink, but did make a mental note. She did seem to have an interest in the little forest dragon. That might be a good start. Maybe a book on dragons...? Or even better! One on magical reptiles in general! Yeah... That sounded good... "Hey Gar. How ya doin' buddy?" He smiled sweetly down at the little dragon. He could remember having to care for him back when he was an egg! Amazing how much he had grown during the time he had been adopted by Catherine.

Cato hissed loudly, swishing his arms hard to try and get away, but having no luck. "Leggoooo!!" He had no qualms with being loud and as always he was letting everyone know just that! "LEGGOOOOOO!!!"

Salem frowned, looking back at his little mishap. "Cato! Behave! Or we're leaving right now!!" His ears folded back as he glared at the little multiarmed toddler. He was starting to lose his patience with him.

Sure enough Cato quieted down, but still looked nothing short of furious at the fact he nolonger has his feather...
