Dark_Mana Wow, Hollow, that's scary. surprised
And turns out that last year's shooter and this year's shooter knew each other. They'd bought their weapons (that were 100% matching) from the same shop in Jokela, where last year's happenings took place. confused Can you buy guns freely in Finland? Or do you need some sort of authorization from police or whatever?

kacisko Can you buy guns freely in Finland? Or do you need some sort of authorization from police or whatever? You need to get a permit for to carry a weapon. I don't know where you can get one from though. The main reason to get a gun here is to hunt animals, and it was on the news that some places (where you can get the permit) don't even ask any questions about your background, don't check if you have a criminal record, don't check if you have mental problems or how long you've been practising shooting. And I'm not sure if they've already raised the age to 18 (when it used to be / still is 15). The law of owning a firearm is going to be radically changed now and the places who give you the permit will get strict instructions to rank out people who shouldn't get a weapon permit.

They should certainly make it more strict.

I agree with Kas there should be more strict background check of a customer that wants to buy guns.

It is the same in Britain. You only have to be 14 to be able to use an air rifle though, and it is still possible to kill a person with one of those

Is NYC that crime infested? confused NYC used to be terrible until juliani cleaned it up. but yeah, in NYC you need a permit just to buy ammo. whereas in a place like maine, all you have to do is pass a background check, unless you want to concealed carry. then you need a permit. but you could open carry in maine if you wanted to.

It was on the news today that from now on everyone who wants to get a firearm gets their background checked twice by two separe officials. Also your mental balance gets checked, and your background in the army. Like this week's shooter had been kicked out of the army due to his mental instability. If that had been checked, he wouldn't have got a gun. confused
