The firestarter shook his head lightly as the rain began to fall. Rocking to his feet, he put weight on the leg, testing her heal. **You did wonderfully. If anyone here is at fault, it's me. I should have thought this out. I don't know what's gotten into me as of late, I've been so wreckless.** Her dozy send worried him; he wasn't shure if she could make it back to the cave under her own power anymore. Certainly not dragging half a pig. The elfess, or the hog? **Dancer... Do you think they could survive another day without food?** The stores they had gathered in the panic before the storm would run out soon, if they hadn't already. **You wanted to wait for Firebright, didn't you?** Blaze looked worriedly at the greying sky, and back the way they had come. He could make it alone, and the dead meat would just make it all the more a challenge. A plaintive voice tugged on his heart, but logic silenced it. He bent over and grabbed hold of he hindlegs of the hog.

*Yes.... Yes I did.* She waved a hand at Blaze as he took hold of the animal. "Take that back to the others. Make Savith understand that I would not go without Fire Bright." Blue eyes were cast skyward then looked at Blaze. "Hurry Blaze. I know how the water makes you feel. I wouldn't want you to suffer more then you need to." Then she looked away because she knew if she watched him leave she would call him back. She thought about Blaze choosing to leave her there. It was what she wanted she told herself. The others should have the meat and if the storm came and washed her away so be it. If she was lucky enough to have Fire Bright find her then bless the High Ones for it. Still it hurt to be discarded like that. Dancer closed her eyes as the rain started to come a bit harder. If her fuzzy friend came he would wake her. She needed rest after a healing and that was her weakness. She just hoped another tusk hog wasn't nearby as she knew they tended to be in small groups.

The firestarter stared at her with a mixture of horror and contempt on his face, and practicaly exploded. **Leave you?! Alone in the woods, without so much as a sharp stick to protect yourself, and on top of that barely able to stand! I may be rash, but don't you ever accuse me of being that stupid. You are, like it or not, about as crucial to the survival of our race on this filthy little rock in the stars as the existance of water. You are a healer, and it is by your art alone that we might survive long enough to retake what we have clung to for ages. If I ever leave you like that, it will be for something far more important than stomachs that might twinge for want of food. They can eat their boots.** He softened slightly and stooped to give her a reassuring hug. **We can wait a little untill your strength returns. Then I'm getting you and that hog back to the cave. But first let's get out of the rain.** Lifting her to her feet, he looked around for a suitable shelter, and lit on a dark crack in the roots of a large tree. Poking his head in, he found it to be quite clean and dry, the inside burned out by fire long ago. **We have a few more hours before the others begin to worry. Stay here, and sleep; I'm going to deal with the pig. And yes, I will be more carefull this time.** The firestarter was working himself into a frenzy over it all, the zest for having been hurt and healed, and out in the wilds doing something returning his vitality.

As Blaze grumped in Dancers direction she just closed her eyes. She was glad he wasn't leaving. She didn't think he would but she has been wrong about things before. She didn't want to hear how important she was. She herself didn't feel like she was so special. When he spoke of the others eating boots she smiled even with her eyes closed. Feeling his arms wrap about her was nice. It was comforting to be held. Slowly she got to her feet and was led to the new resting spot. After he promised to take more care Dancer slowly opened her eyes as a hand lifted to his cheek. Softly she said, "I'm glad you're here Blaze." Her heavy lids then slid shut and the tender hand dropped to her lap. She was out for a little while.

As she settled to sleep, Blaze again checked the tree, walking all the way around it to make shure there was no bee hive or teetering rock or rot to threaten her. Then he turned to the task at hand.
It took the firestarter little more than a vague idea of how the hog was put together, a sharp spike, and generous amounts of brute force to dig out it's intestines, almost spilling a sack of bile in the process, which thankfully he tore out before the smell of its contents hit him and he threw it into the bushes. Once he seperated one end, it came out like a rope stuck together. The work took him a bit longer than expected, and then he had to wash the cavity with rain, which, by this time, was in much abundance. The sun was low in the sky and a cold wind had picked up by the time he was truly finished. Staggering to the hollow tree, he colapsed, shivering and blood-spattered. He shook Dancer feebly, then curled up next to her, figuring that a few moments rest and warmpth might do him good. **It is done, Dancer.**

Feeling Blaze cuddle up Dancer responded in kind and snuggled back. Wrapping her arms about him and nuzzling into his neck. Her mind quietly responding to his. *Ok Blaze. Just rest a bit here with me first.* She knew how the rain and such affected his mood and all and even though she was starting to feel better she was happy for some extra time to feel all better.

His back to her, Blaze took hold of her hand for the simple feeling of safety, shifting carefully against her to get comfortable. His eyes slid gently closed at her urging, and a doze of a few minutes became a sleep that would last long into the night if he wasn't wakened before then by send or by other, more dangerous forces. Had he been thinking ahead, he would have worried at the rections of the others when their healer and firestarter didn't come back, nor send their position and situation, but at the moment the force of the rain, the cold, and exhaustion took their toll, and he slept dreamlessly.

As long as they were safe from harm Dancer didn't mind waiting out the rain inside the tree. She lay still while Blaze slept. His hand holding hers just to know someone was there was nice. She listened to him breath as he rested. Her mind drifting in and out of sleep as she started to feel better. When she felt normal again Dancer thought about Crosscurrent. Then she thought about Blaze. It made her smile softly as she lay there. Wanting so much to prove himself to everyone, to do the right thing and remain looking strong while doing it. She saw that in Savith as well. The need to always look strong even if things wounded them. Dancer tried to be strong when her heart hurt but found it all to hard. She would rather endure physical pain then heartache or mental pain. Softly she hummed some long ago tribal tune as the rhythm of the rain pounded against the tree fort they hid in. After a time she heard a noise. Something moving about in the rain. Gently she pulled from Blaze and peeked out from the tree. Her eyes lit up and she rushed out into the rain to throw her arms about Fire Brights neck. "Oh Fire Bright I was so worried about you!" After a long wet greeting she went back into the tree. Placing a hand on Blaze's shoulder she sent softly to him, *Blaze. Please wake my friend. Fire Bright is here and can take us back to the others.* Her mind clearly scared to be in his without him being awake. So she waited to see if he would wake, shock her mind or just grump a bit. On edge she was ready for anything.

"Well damn. And here I'd thought I'd avoided gettin' wetter." Shaking the leaf-dust from his hair and sitting up, he waved cheerily at the tiger. **How did you find your pig, Firebright? Save some for us?** Crawling out into the open, Blaze found the carcass was only chewed a little, and the organs left well enough alone. Picking Dancer up by her waist, he spun her joyfully around a few times. **Come on, lets see if he'll suffer to be ridden by his food.** Setting her down, he rolled his eyes pointedly skywards, the winds and rain approaching a worrysome, if not dangerous, intensity. **Unless of course you fancy staying out here all night.**

Dancer squeaked and laughed when Blaze lifted her. Looking down at him she giggled uncontrollably. Her face went red as it often did and she shook her head a bit. Tossing midnight hair about her face. When she was back on the ground Blaze's upward glance just made her do the same. "We should get back before Savith sends out a rescue party for us." Again she giggled. *But I know nothing would hurt me so long as you had breath in your body if we stayed.* Her send almost felt like fingertips teasing his brain in a warm caress. Then those blue eyes quickly darted to the pig on the ground. "Ok let's get this and ourselves back to the others."

Toussling her hair jovialy, Blaze darted off a little ways to find a vine or some sort of thin tie-able thing to secure the hog with. **Well maybe not that long. But I would defend you, of course.** If he had felt anything strange in her send, he was doing a good job of ignoring it. **But yes, the meat.** A certain vine caught his eye, and he began to pull on it, untill it snapped far up in the tree, and he jumped lightly out of the way to avoid the falling coils, only to have a length of dead branch as big around as his arm and twice as long spear with a quiet thud into the ground where he had stood moments before. His eyes widened with shock and he nearly fell over himself getting out from under the tree, shoving the end of the vine at Dancer. **Quick, before the wind knocks more down!** He was genuinely frightened, the ease with which he could have been killed by this strange new terrain apparent.

Dancer shook her head and hopped on Fire Bright. "Come on Blaze. Fire Bright can carry the meat in his jaws. It's not to big for him and now that it's gutted it's even lighter." She held out a hand to help him on with a smile.

**Right then. Lets get out of here before one of these great topheavy bushes falls on us.** Taking her hand, he scrambled up onto the tiger behind her, arms wrapped tight around her waist as he watched the branches above, shuddering slightly. **Don't sit there smiling like a child with a beetle!** His send was more frightened than anything. **Let's go!*

Dancer laughed then pointed at the pig. "Carry it Fire Bright." Her voice was firm but still loving. Once the cat lifted the meat in his jaws she squeezed her legs against him tight. "Now back to the cave my friend and hurry." With her leg cue Fire Bright took off like a shot. Bounding through the woods Dancer would send to Blaze *Duck* and he had better do so or he would be on the ground and most likely out cold. The wind was wild and blew Dancers hair into Blazes face. At least the bouncy ride was quick. Before long they were at the edge of the woods looking down on their little living area but the cave was a little bit away yet.

Blaze needed no second bidding, and he ducked, barely missing getting brained by a low branch. By the end of the run, he was all but glued to Dancer's back, eyes wide in shock. He uttered a short little "heh" of a gasp. **That was... exhilarating.** Feeling just brave enough to let go of his death-grip on her midsection and sit up a little, he could barely make out the cave through the rain. The dull roar of the waterfall droned nearby, and he craned his head, trying to see. The sting of rain and the wooded smell of the air blowing back out to sea and Dancer's hair suddenly seemed far more interesting than eating out of bowls and the aggravation of being in small places with others. He sent, somewhat unshure. **Do you want to go back there?**
