He bowed his head. "Thank you, Rune, for paying me back." he said, lifting into the air with three beats of his wings, circling and screeching a goodbye, flying into the distance. He wondered if he would ever see the Pica near his home again...what if he'd have to move his whole collection now? It was an awful strain on his mind and nerves. He'd worry about it later, the sun already threatening the horizon. Night had ended already!?
He shook his head, flapping until he was nothing more then a speck on and bright twinkle, the gem in his claws catching the light in the rising sun.

Runewing watched as Lute disappeared into the forest, turning back to her hollow. Peering inside, she found Syz wedged against a wall of the tree, looking down at his crystal fragment. When he noticed her, he picked it up in his beak and lifted it higher towards Rune. "For you." He piped sadly, feathers fluffed. Rune took the crystal in her talons, looking it over and sighing.
"I know you like to give me gifts, but I like them so much more when you discover them yourself. Taking them from others seems like cheating doesn't it?" He nodded glumly, but Rune noticed his spirits were still down. Despite how tired she was, she continued, "Grab some string, Syz." He looked up with a confused expression, propping himself up to retrieve the string.
Rune exited the hollow and went back to where she had taken the crystal for Lute, Syz hopping up next to her with the string. Placing gems in the tree was harder work than removing them, causing Rune to delicately lift the crystal with her Will. Holding it in place, she took the string from Syz and gently looped it around the crystal. Keeping the two objects with her Will independently was difficult, but she managed with little effort, and soon the crystal hung in the tree. "Ah, look at that, Syz." In the dim light of dusk, it would have been impossible to see, but at the sun began to peek over the forest the crystal looked magnificent. As it hung in the barren branches of the oak, the sun reflected in every fracture of the broken crystal, out-shining all of the other gems.
"Looks like you've given me a wonderful gift after all, Syz." She glanced away from the dancing light of the crystal, noticing the shine of happiness in Syz's eyes. "Come, let us rest." Fluttering back to the hollow, she nestled Syz under her wing as they drifted off to sleep.
