Contra-basses are HUGE. Would love to play one. But only about 30 or so exist, but they're apparently making more.
Sub-contra-basses are bigger, but aren't really playable. 3 have been made, 2 can't play at all. The third was made in 1999 and can be played, but they're debating on whether it's a sax or not because it's more like a sarrusophone (a double reed instrument).
I love low instruments, but gee. Adolphe Sax had some major issues. But, he did plan out saxes to replace pretty much every instrument. I think we should. Ya know, make a band with every type of sax replacing every other instrument. We could. wink

Luckybug76 CRAP. Imagine MARCHING with that sucker... If you're talking at the Contra-basses then yes it'd be hell but Bari's, I've seen my friends march them like it's breathing.

If you're talking at the Contra-basses then yes it'd be hell but Bari's, I've seen my friends march them like it's breathing. i've actually had the opportunity to hold a contra bass...it's really not that heavy...you know...proportionally.
