Reno arched an eyebrow at that. "Who said I gave up?" he questioned, tilting his head. "There's a difference between giving up and taking a different approach. Rather than looking everywhere and always being one step behind you or just missing you, I went about a daily lifestyle: hung out in the living room, ate in the kitchen, whatever. I went with the idea that if I went through those daily activities, we'd have to cross paths somewhere. Because no matter how much you look for Mother, you're still going to eat, to take a break..."

His frown deepened and he moved his legs out from under him, setting his booted feet on the floor before standing and moving over to Reno, looking down at him. "Don't.. lie." He said it softly, some sort of emotion usually not seen on the rather automatronic fox's face flickering through his green eyes. "You didn't do that.. You didn't look for me, or wait for me... It's not important for you to find Mother, it wasn't important for you to help a little kid find Mother... Don't lie...Reno."

Of course, there was no point in continuing the lying when Yazoo called him out on it. The thing was, it wasn't completely a lie. Sure, he hadn't really done much in looking for Yazoo or 'Mother', but... at the time, he had noticed Yazoo's absence. And, after a while, he found that he even missed the fox. Of course, those feelings were brushed aside eventually. Time would do that.
"It's hard not to lie when that's all you ever do. Okay, so maybe the whole 'finding Mother' deal didn't seem like such a high priority to me." He shrugged, blunt now with Yazoo's soft demand that he not lie. "But I liked you and it wasn't as though there was any harm in humoring you."

Yazoo shrunk back a little at that, gripping his hands into fists. His lip trembled a little even, but he didn't cry, like his older brother might have. "I.. was alone. Finding Mother was the most important thing to me and I was just a child and couldn't do it on my own.." He shook his head and moved to snatch up his plate to return it to the kitchen. "I'm sorry I took your cake, Reno. I won't touch it next time.." He turned away, heading back to return the plate.

Reno had straightened when Yazoo had first gotten up, no longer resting his arms on the couch. He was silent as Yazoo spoke and, when the other grabbed his plate and essentially dropped the subject AND conversation, the red-haired feline felt... bad. Horrible, to be perfectly honest. And before he could help himself, he found himself following after Yazoo, speaking again though now it was almost frantic with words occasionally overlapping. In a way, it was as though he was trying to say it all before Yazoo "vanished" again and almost as though he half expected Yazoo to disappear any moment now. Then... who knew then when he would next meet up?
"Exactly! You were alone, but you were a nice kid. And you were so determined to find her, even when you had no idea where to look. Maybe finding Mother wasn't very important to me, but it was to you. And you were only a kid. And..." And he shouldn't have just let Yazoo try on his own. He should have helped Yazoo more. He should have been there with him. But... he wasn't.

Yazoo set the plate in the sink, his back to Reno as he sniffed and rubbed at his eyes. He wouldn't let the Turk see him upset, he wouldn't.
"It's... okay, Reno," he said, his voice much calmer than he felt. "I was just a little child, I wasn't your responsibility.." He moved towards the fridge, his back still to Reno as he poured a glass of milk, taking a sip from it. "I'll.. find Mother on my own."

Reno stopped at the doorway, leaning back against it and loosely folding his arms over his stomach. "No, you weren't my responsibility. Doesn't mean I don't feel like s**t for just leaving you alone though." It really was horrible, wasn't it? Yazoo had just been a kid and he was alone. And what did Reno do? Leave him that way. "You probably will find her on your own. But it doesn't mean that you have to be alone."

Yazoo shrugged, downing more of his milk. "One gets accustomed to being alone.." he murmured before setting that glass along side the plate in the sink and turning back to Reno--now that he had settled down, of course. "It's okay.. Really.."

"Yeah?" Reno continued to lean against the doorway, blue eyes watching the fox quietly. "So you're accustomed to it, big deal. There's a difference between being used to something and not minding, or even enjoying, something."

Yazoo frowned. He didn't like being alone, no.. He missed Mother, and his brothers.. "No.. I don't like it.. But that's just how it is.." That's how it'd been since he'd been a child. That's how he assumed it would always be.

"That's just how it is?" the redhead repeated with an arched eyebrow. "Nah, I don't think so. Because it doesn't have to be that way. You're the one who lets it stay that way."

Reno shrugged, eyes closing for a few moments as he released a breath very near to a sigh. "Why? Mm, good question." Reopening his eyes, the redhead ran his fingers back through his hair and tugged at his ponytail in what might be taken as a nervous gesture. "Because you're a good person and really don't deserve to be alone all the time?"

Yazoo's brow was furrowed, but he didn't say anything else. What could he say? He was rather confused. "Oh," he said, wringing his fingers again.

Reno pushed away from the doorframe, crossing the room. "Mmhm," he murmured absently, opening the fridge and peering inside. When nothing caught his eye (and his belief that there was no beer in the fridge was proven fact), the feline moved around Yazoo to instead get a glass.
Of course, his reasons had nothing to do with staying because Yazoo was attractive, oh no. After all, sure, Yazoo might have looked like a babe, but the fox was definitely male, Reno was certain.
...
Okay, so he was a little interested... but only a little!
