Le Mango My school only offers Spanish. It probably has an English as a second language class, but I've honestly never seen/heard of it. We have a few hispanic students, but other than that there's very little diversity where I live. :/ That sucks sad I live in Toronto, Canada, which is easily one of the most culturally diverse places in the world 3nodding *ish lucky*

we have French, Spanish, German, and Latin at our school....wow, how exciting, i wish we had more to choose from, but finding teachers is hard, not many people speak other languages where i live.....Hmong would be nice, just so i could understand all the hmong students in the school, 'cause sometimes your name pops up in their conversation but you have no idea what they're saying about you xp I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but it is annoying.....

My school offer:
_English _French _German
Those are the most teached languages in general 'round this places. ("por estas pampas", jaja no encuentro la expresion correcta en ingles xp ) I think they should teach Chinase and/or Japanase too... I don't like Chinase, but they are a big culture in these days, it should be taught.

It depends where you live, I think. German would be more useful to a European than an American, that sort of thing...

Sanne_vdZ It depends where you live, I think. German would be more useful to a European than an American, that sort of thing... yeah, but where i live, northern America, lots of people are part german so they teach it anyways....Spanish is big here though due to the many Mexicans that live in America

spanishnerd99 I really wish our school offered more languages. sad They don't care about people like me. I agree. Actually, I've been thinking lately... are more languages the solution to some of the problems with today's youth? Think about it. The average person my age has absolutely nothing up here *points to head* Many watch television for 5 or more hours a day, and for many, TV becomes their god. This leads not only to racism issues, but many other problems as well. Now - what if it became a law that, to be able to graduate from high school, you had to prove yourself efficient in 2 or more languages (other than your own mother language)? Students would have to spend more time studying to prepare for this, so TV time would be cut down a bit. Think about all of the benefits this would have... students would get excersize for their brains every day by learning verb conjugations and noun declensions. Also, rather than taking everything TV says literally and forming racist opinions about cultures they know nothing of, kids would learn about foreign cultures through the language, and see how much beauty some of the world's cultures have to offer. The fact that everybody could speak 3 or more languages by the age of 18 would have other benefits, too. It's a proven fact that learning languages improves your memory, broadens your understanding of certain concepts, and makes you think more. This would be an excellent alternative to having kids playing violent video games around the clock. Not to mention, learning other languages is good for travel, and gives you opportunities to meet new people. Let's take Europe as an example. In many parts of Europe, it is mandatory that all students learn 2 or 3 languages other than their own mother language. Europe also does not have problems with kids being glued to the TV screen, and educational in general is taken much more seriously in Europe. Of course, many people our age might not like this because it might mean being forced into studying both French and Spanish. In my opinion, schools can have more langauges to offer to solve this problem. Instead of the usual 3 (English, French, Spanish), how about at least one or two others? I can think of lots of kids at my school who would love to be able to take German or Latin, or some other language. Even Russian or Chinese would be great. They've gotta start somewhere...

^*claps* OMG, that was perfectly said. And well, in my global studies class, we were studying about how other cultures are catching up to America which is supposed to be such a "superior" country. (I doubt this concerns you, since you live in Canada.) But, it had said that American youth is too involved with non-educational activities that we are falling behind in the education world. China graduates more people, and the average person in India is fluent in 3 or more languages. Thnat really got me thinking...languages CAN be the solution to all our problems. If every school (at least in my country) offers: Spanish-(widely spoken in America, and also the areas close to it.) Chinese-(c'mon! A billion people speak it!) Arabic-(could be GREATLY useful in certain jobs.) Latin-(could help one become proficient easily in a romance language.) ...then maybe our youth would grow to become stronger in many areas of education. Other languages such as French, Italian, and German should be taught as well.

I think it is the solution. Not only speaking about languages, but in every aspect of education. If the schools were demanding more, people would not have so much time to spend in stupid things like watching 5 hours of TV, and the society could be better.

My previous high school only offered Spanish and French. I tried both and ran into perhaps one of the worst French teachers of my life so that ended horribly. Spanish proved to have more tolerable teachers. Now in College, I was hoping to take German, which the book handed to me had listed, but later I came to find out that it wasn't offered [nor French, which was also listed] and that Spanish was the only foreign language course offered.
I hope to look around at other colleges/universities and find one at least in my home state that offers German or find someone locally that can help me.

Actually that America thing does concern me quite a bit xp First of all because America has been like a world leader for a while now and everything that goes on there has to do with every other country, and second of all because America is next to Canada anyway ninja
