Susan looked up at Mostyn concern in his eyes as he saw her slightly struggle. He stood up and paced back and forth afraid that she might fall. When he saw her make it up to the flat spot he let out a breath he wasn't even aware he'd been holding. He smiled up at Mostyn.
"Good job, just stay there... I'll be up in a minute..."
Susan began to pace back and forth before finally springing upwards towards the first branch and propelling himself to the next branch, and finally to the flat spot.
He trotted over to Mostyn a wide smile on his face, "With practice... you could climb trees just as easy as I can."

Watching him, she almost felt foolish. He moved with such ease from branch to branch. It looked as if he gave little thought to where his paws fell and he reached the spot in less than half the time it took her. Still, it was her first time. And she understood enough to know that climbing counted as some sort of exercise. That was something she rarely, if ever, did. Aside from taking walks, that is. She wasn't sure if that simple motion even counted as work. Ah well. Turning to him, the smile on her maw shifted to a more composed one than before. It still held all the friendliness she felt, of course. "That would be nice," she revealed quietly, moving to a stand once more and walking close to the edge of the flat spot. "Being able to climb so well..." she half-continued, looking over the edge and seeing the ground so far away.

Susan looked over at Mostyn, concern slightly on his face. "well if you'd like, i could always help you climb whenever you have the time, or just feel like trying..." She stood up and looked over the edge, and shook his head.
"you're going to have a hard time getting down that way though... You might just want to climb backwards down the slant in the tree, this way you wont just be going straight down... but you'll definitely want to use your claws for that one..."
He looked over at Mostyn again. "Do you WANT to get down now??"

"Ah!" she looked momentarily sheepish. "No, no. I mean, we just got here." She'd just been admiring how high they were. After all, it was up here that she looked all the time. It was up here that she felt she wanted to be. Turing from the edge, she moved back. "I guess it will be harder to get back down, though..." she hadn't even thought of that before. She would do it however he told her to. That seemed like the best way to avoid injury. For now, she was happy where she was. Although, with all the talking, her voice had begun to grow tired and quiet. It definitely wasn't everyday that she conversed so much. "But, if you want to get down, I'll go, too."

Susan looked sidways at Mostyn and a thought occured to him. 'she doesn't talk much.' he smiled inwardly as he layed himself down looking rather comfortable. He smiled softy and turned his full gaze onto Mostyn as he said, almost as if it didnt matter at all.
"Or... we could just sit up here... and enjoy the veiw."
He layed his head down contentedly.
"it's such a nice day after all."

Eyes narrowed in thought as she looked back to him. For a minute or two she remained silent, just watching. Every once in a while her ears would twitch gently. "Yes," she finally let out, moving back further to join him where he lay. "It is a nice day." Stretching her back legs one at a time, she yawned. Climbing had been a workout, for sure. Mostyn shook out her fur before settling down next to the male. Paws moved inward as she pulled herself into a protective curl. Taking his lead, she set her head atop her paws and stared out. Being able to see the leaves, still attached to the branches and so close to her, made her happy still. Another time of personal silence passed before she lifted her head once more, her mind not feeling as sleepy as her body. "Do you like it up here, too?" she asked idly.

Susan looked away slightly, lowering his head at a sudden sad memory snuck it's way into his head. He shook his head and tried to smile, but he was fairly certain is looked forced.
"Yes, i love it up here... I feel safe up here..."
He wiped at his eyes quickly, painfully awre that they were becoming moist. He hoped Mostyn wasn't paying attention. to him at that moment.

Still staring out, Mostyn didn't seem to notice his personal turmoil, even as she laid at his side. It didn't last long, unfortunately for him, as she was rather aware of her surroundings on all occasions. Perhaps it was simple because she chose to be too observant. Noting the shake of his head from the corner of her eye, she turned just as he began to wipe at his own. He had said he felt safe, so why did it seem like he was upset now? She lowered her head to her paws once again, watching him silently for a moment before finally choosing to speak up. "Are you alright?" she questioned, sounding concerned, but certainly not forceful. If he didn't want to talk about it, she wouldn't press the matter. And maybe she was just jumping to conclusions.

Susan looked up startled at Mostyn and shook his head. He didn't really want to talk about it, talking about made it hurt more, and often made people uncomfortable. "No... just a memory, it's alright." He winced at his voice breaking and cleared it rather forcefully. "I'm fine." He repeated with a surer sounding voice.
He sighed though, that sounded rude to his ears and he shook his head. "I'm sorry, it's just... I used to use the tree's as an escape when i was a child, so, sometimes, coming up here makes me thinks about the things I try to escape from.... does that make sense?"

Eyes watched him as he spoke. The expression on her face shifted thoughtfully as she listened. There were many things she understood in this world: fears, memories... Things like that, she'd grown used to them and facing them alone. And yet, hearing someone else's problems for once was rather different. Looking away, she shut her eyes. "Only if it makes sense to you," she responded, letting out a breath. Running never solved anything. If nothing else, she'd just recently realized that. No, she hadn't been running from the trees she couldn't reach, just not trying. If she'd rejected his offer as a teacher, that would've been running. Had that been the case, she wouldn't have known this happiness. "But sometimes you have to turn back and stand up to your fears..." her voice trailed off. A moment or two later, she let out a small, sheepish laugh. "No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't bother you about such things."

Susan smiled villainously for a moment. "trust me my dear," he said, his eloquent personality kicking in, "life is not easy for a boy named Su. I'm not necessarilly running from my fears, I've been wandering most of my life in an attempt to meet my father, and kill him for giving me my first name." Susan lowered his head and looked pathetic for a moment. "when i was younger, girls would giggle about it and i would blush, and boys would laugh and i'd bust their eye... and well... My mother wasn't very helpful either, but in the tress... Here, away from the world, i feel secluded and i can forget about all of that... sorry... if i was seeming a bit rude there..."

Surprised at the sudden shift in his expression, her own fell. She remained quiet through his story, biting her lip at the part about laughing and busting eyes. Even for one who claimed to understand herself so well, she was having difficulty understanding others. If not Susan himself, then the ulaya of his childhood. Perhaps she was too sheltered, in a way, for her own good. Living alone her entire life... perhaps it made her naive about the ways of the world. "I don't... I don't think Susan is such a bad name," she told him, voice honest. "It's no worse than Mostyn is for me. Or anyone's name is for them. It's who you are that's important, isn't it?" She lowered her gaze to the wood. "Is that a childish way of looking at things? Do I sound stupid for thinking that way?" She felt so.

Susan looked up suddenly, rather shocked as he realised he might have hurt his new freinds feelings. Not knowing how he was suppoused to comfort a girl, Susan uncertainly scooted a bit closer to Mostn and wrapped a paw around her shoulder. "no, it's not stupid. Hell, I think Mostyn is a beautiful name. odd names for girls are cute, becuase girls in themselves are cute, but for guys... well... little boys are just mean by nature and often like to pick on someone odd." He patted her on the shoulder a bit. "but i like how you think about it, it's nice to feel like an outast around someone simply becuase of my name. i really appreciate it... it's refreshing."
PostPosted: Mon Aug 11, 2008 11:54 pm

She laughed. A bit louder than she ever remembered laughing before. "Beautiful, hm?" Curling up a bit, she leaned into the comfort. "I guess so." It was difficult to do anything more than agree. After all, wouldn't she be a hypocrite to say otherwise? Maybe she wouldn't go as far to say beautiful herself, but after telling him his name was fine the way it was, she certainly couldn't bash her own. Pulling back a bit, but not enough to move his paw, she smiled, eyes brightening. "But if you feel better, then I'm glad." Her little tail wiggled a bit. "Oh! But does that mean I can call you Susan now?" A more joking smile slipped to her maw. She was fine with still calling him Anthony if that's what he really wanted.

For a moment Susan had an Oh s**t look on his face, and he was quiet for a moment as he thought that over. She seemed nice, and had yet to make fun of him, and she had, afterall, told him it was a nice name. He didn't want to hurt her feelings she had been awfully nice to him so far... He gave out a relenting sigh and nodded his head. "yeah, you can call me Susan... just not in front of others... do we have a deal?" He asked, poking her and tickling her slightly on her side.
