Synopsis

Title: ...
Date: ...

So Crescentia told me to keep a log of things that happen with both Emmet and Stella. Something about being sentimental and looking back on all the good things in life...like when they were little enough to bully. Or so I understand.

Anyway, I will say that I am entirely not happy with being told to be a parent. I am by no means a good one, or even that attentive of one. I have left Emmet alone several times by accident and Stella...well she gets away with everything. I hope to look back on this one day and realize I've grown as an adult and a parent to these kids. They're young and they both deserve much more of a parent than I can provide.

Luckily for me Rysha lives here as well. She has, despite harassing me constantly, proven to be a great help when it comes to telling me how to do things. I don't know what I would do without her.

Outside of my inabilities, I do have to admit they are growing on me.

Emmet, when I first met him, did nothing but cry and cling to his sister. He was always so afraid of everything around him and so very prone to go hide when he felt it necessary. But he's growing up a bit; sure he can be afraid of his own shadow, but he's slowly becoming more open. It may be due to making up for having me as a parent, or it may honestly be the result of meeting several kids his age. I do have to admit that he is also so cute, and it is thanks to him I somewhat understand why parents will sometimes watch their children sleep.

Not that Emmet or Stella are my children. They're just charges.

Either way, charge or child, I will look out for them. I will do what D-corp is forcing me to do against my will and I will try my best to do it right. I have a line of work that makes it very difficult to claim yourself as innocent; but I do not want that for these two, especially Emmet. I want him to grow up as free and as innocent as possible.

I hope that one day, when he is told to do what he was made to do, he'll be able to do it without losing his values or his core self. I don't think I ever want to see that little grin ever fade from his lips, or that light fade from his eyes.

Still thinking journals are stupid,
-Riley

Riley looked at the note that was delivered to his house. Choosing to Participate? Cooperation? The only reason he was even taking care of not only Emmet but also Stella was due to Blackmail. He wouldn't be participating or cooperating if it weren't for the fear of losing his job or creating a scandal. Seeing this letter and the way it was written was like a slap in the face. Stupid company.

He nearly considered just throwing it out, right here and now.

But they'd probably know, and...it probably wouldn't go over very well.

"Emmet." Riley called sternly, his voice as flat as ever; his call was met with a noise of acknowledgement from somewhere in the house. He stared at the second sheet, the one that Emmet was to fill out, and waited for the little snakeling to slither his way to the kitchen.

"Yes, Riley?" The noseless wonder yawned out, rubbing an eye with a white little fist. Apparently he was about to doze off on his heating pad. His red slitted pupils moved against the expanse of black of his eyes as he stared at the paper that was held out to him, reaching up to take it with both hands.

"D-Corp wants you to fill this out, there's a pen on the table." He ordered, nodding to the kitchen table where he expected Emmet to do as he asked. Luckily Emmet was nothing like Stella, and he obediantly slithered over, putting the paper on the table before lifting himself up onto a chair. It was getting easier to do! Go him! By the time he managed to sit himself up and to grab the pen from Riley's own work, the Guardian was sitting himself down, taking a second pen and bringing a cup of coffee to his lips.

"Name..." Emmet murmured, sticking his tongue out of his mouth and using the pen as carefully as he could possibly manage. When he was done that, he slowly read the second line, his finger under the words to help him sound it out. "...Riley, how old m'I?" Big eyes stared intently at his Guardian, who lowered his own writing to stare back.

"I don't know. Five, I guess." He shrugged; honestly it felt like Emmet had been with him for ten years, but it was probably a lot shorter. Maybe. Then again, it felt like Stella had been in his family longer than Emmet, but he knew Emmet was his first little charge.

The other two questions were fairly easy to answer, but at the last one, Emmet just sat there and stared, his brow furrowed in a surprisingly serious expression.

"What is wrong?" He asked, mildly baffled to see such a serious expression. Emmet's pupils lifted, and he tapped the pen against the paper.

"Gotta colour me..."

"...Okay...and what is so hard about that?"

"Noffin, 'Scuse me!" He chirped politely, sliding off of the chair with a thud and a little grunt of pain; a moment later a white hand pat the table to find the paper and pen...and then he watched the little snake slither out of the room.

Riley was still writing his own note to D-Corp when Emmet slithered back into the room, tugging on his sleeve to get his attention. "Here! Bye bye!" The little boy yawned again, rubbing his noseless face as he turned to slither back to his room with his heating pad. Once the boy was gone, he looked down at the sheet; apparently Emmet went above and beyond. He drew himself...but he also drew his heating pad. And what was probably the electrical socket. And the trim in the room.

What a weird kid.
