Dark_Mana ashlander_alpha Well, one could say that a lot of folk music is based on the mythologies and culturally important oral and written works of their respective peoples. For instance, Amorphis employs cantos from the Finnish epic poem, the Kalevala, as a basis for a number of their albums. Kalevala is blah, they made us read it at school when we were younger. But it's true that some Finnish bands use it in their music, like Korpiklaani in the songs they sing in Finnish (eg Väkirauta). I've read it myself, actually. Or to be more accurate, partially. I generally don't really like epic-length poems of any country's origin...hope that's not offensive. sweatdrop
As for possible literature-based albums, I'd like to see a prog metal band do a concept album on Fahrenheit 451. Pain of Salvation's "BE" reminded me of the book faintly.

Try learning some of those poems by heart for some crappy school things. Horrible I say. The general storyline in Kalevala is good, but how it has been written isn't. Did you read it in English?

Huh... I'm a little surprised. I haven't seen anybody mention Amon Amarth (LotR name) or all the Egyptian literature referenced by Nile.

lotusvoid Divinus Cruor Mago de Oz do it too. Two of their albums are good examples: La leyenda de La Mancha is absolutely based on Don Quijote. Finisterra is based on Diego de Cortes. I would like to see some metal based on the lord of the rings (lol)Blind guardian summoning (gorogoth named themselves for mordor) there are more, but I forget i know... it was a joke. if you lighten my text.

Yeah, I did...I don't know a lick of the Finnish language. sweatdrop I thought it could be that the English version ended up sounding dryer due to things being lost in translation...but apparently not. The only canto I really remember was the Kullervo storyline, mainly because that was the one that got me interested in reading it.
