Ok, I have a question.. Not sure if this is the right place but anyways.. I am a beginning Wiccan, and want to know what books, specifically, have helped you in your understanding of the religion? What books should I purchase first to help me understand not only the basics of the religion, but also the laws and basics of spellmaking and casting?

What books should I purchase first to help me understand not only the basics of the religion, but also the laws and basics of spellmaking and casting? This is a great place to ask that question. There is a list of books that is somewhere on a thread that you should read over. Personally for Wicca books I like anything by Scott Cunningham. I love how simple he makes everything, I like the way he sets up rituals, he also does a great job with writing spells in his books Earth Air Fire Water, and Earth Magic. My favorite book by Scott Cunningham is actually Living Wicca because it addresses some smaller things about the religion that I find incredibly important like prayer and the steps taken to really learn something. I also liked reading A Witches Bible. This book is actually two books combined in to one and it is from the Gardnerian tradition of Wicca. It is a little bit tougher of a read but I think it was good to find where a lot of the Wiccan traditions originated from and a good source of knowledge about Gerald Gardner. These are the books that have really helped me but like I said there is a list somewhere of book reviews that you should check out. In fact there might be two lists. Anyhoo I hope that helps you.

Ok. I'm posting a link to the online course I'm studying at the moment. It's free and you can take as many courses as you want to aid you in understanding wicca and otehr pagan religions and some of the notions surrounding it. I highly reccommend the Psychic Development course. It's done wonders for me and exam revision! Witchschool.comUPDATE: Have just descovered that you can only get a free 3 day membership, but lessons are still available in that time.

seek professional help...? is this a trick question? Know that like the rising and setting of the sun it is just before dawn that things seem the darkest. Always keep that hope and know when it seems like you are all alone the sun and the moon shine apon you and offer you hope and love

I also recommend Power of the Witch by Laurie Cabot. While her writings seem to weigh a little more heavily on the feminine deities, she can add a bit of science for the rationalized Wiccan ^-^ Also, if you are interested in general Sabbat information, there is a book Called Moon Magick by D.J. Conway that provides a plethora of information on an entire year's worth of holidays. One of the first websites I came across was paganspath.com The webmistress Spring Wolf offers information on various paths as well as general metaphysics, and for parents whose kids have Craft interests. Well worth the visit!
