Dude, we're just in band camp and its already hard. Can't wait for actual marching season. What I love though, is during one of our band camp practices, the football coach walks by with some players and says "And you think OUR practice is hard."

What I love though, is during one of our band camp practices, the football coach walks by with some players and says "And you think OUR practice is hard." that's so cool! that would never happen at my school. cuz we don't have a football team. sometimes one of the band director people will come by the colorguard, look, and say "ya, i can twirl a flag too" he's the brass guy. the other band directors are pretty good with the colorguard.

punk_gurl2011 I hate that! Yea I know the football players work hard, my brother is in football, but we march a 7-8 minute show without stopping, football they play for 10 seconds and stop. I mean come on, our band practices more then the football team. I also hate how the teachers let kids in football and other sports slide on their homework because they had a game or practice, but not me because its marching band. The only teacher who let me do that was my geom teacher and that is because he loves watching the band. i hate when they do that!!! and band should be considered a sport!!!! i mean we work hard enough dont we???

punk_gurl2011 Wendy Wicked punk_gurl2011 I hate that! Yea I know the football players work hard, my brother is in football, but we march a 7-8 minute show without stopping, football they play for 10 seconds and stop. I mean come on, our band practices more then the football team. The only teacher who let me do that was my geom teacher and that is because he loves watching the band. I know its soo retarded I mean; the band kids are out just as late; and I bet we get more exhausted; they constantly have breaks and time outs and whatnot we march around in 239487234 degree weather wearing heavy clothes, having to either hold our arms up or carry at least 20 lbs on our shoulders we dont complain we ain't pansys cool I know. Oh my god my gym teacher gave me s**t when he found out I was in band (hes also the football coach...) I would have my show shirt on and he would look at me and laugh, and when we would be in the weight room I would have a lot of weight on (more for my legs) and he would be like that is to much weight, but he never said that to anyone else. Then one day for spirit day I had paint under my eyes like football players do and he was like "Oh, are you going to be a big strong football player now?...I think it might be to hard for you" and I gave him the dirtiest look ever and was like "you know what...it is way harder then it looks, you wouldnt be able to handle it" and he was like eek . He didnt really say many comments like that anymore. dude, that's just mean! He's just jealous!! >_< lol.

Lol. We used to get that. My sophomore year, that all changed. We had a vicious set for our final piece. 186 bpm, and in a jazz run. Nobody complains that band is easy anymore, at least not people who pay attention to the band (idiot freshmen do, until they see a football game). We get worked 5-6 hours a week after school plus every class period (one hour every day) in school.
Football team has an hour of practice three or four times a week. Sum it up, we work harder than they do just during the week's class time. And we work harder hour-for-hour as well. We get about three breaks during a three hour practice. In class, the only break you get is before going out and after coming in.
They do decently, and we do as well, but the school district is just too poor to help either along to the degree they should be. Everything is underfunded. Heck, we can't even pay for things like microwaves or coffee machines for the teachers. Electricity even is too expensive to use freely.

The football team can't say we don't work harder than them because we have more trophys than they could dream of....I tried to count them all once...I lost count at 110...i think.
You have to be in marching band to be in concert band over here. it's one full fine arts credit.

D< I freaking hate all the people who say it isnt that hard or it isnt a sport
Marching is a ******** sport no matter what any dumb ******** says. we work more hours than athletic teams and generally we exert more energy than they do in a shorter amount of time
I mean, seriously. I'd like to see a football player or a baseball player or any of those stupid a** pansy jocks take a ******** tenor or a trombone or even a ******** flute and run a show like we do... And we all know they couldn't do it
We dont ******** get benched in the middle of a show we play all the way through a 10-ish minute show running anywhere from 80-220+ bmp, with maybe one or two holds and we'll march halftime if we're lucky so we can catch our breath for a couple beats
jocks are pussies compared to us and they need to just ******** off
at my school, there are two sets of trophy cases and they have trophies from all the sports teams and there are probably 30, 40 tops (overall)
but if you go into the band room
there are 8 sets of lockers all of them are covered with trophies on top One of them even has 13 from a single competition on top
&& now what does that tell you?

well unfortunately i cant say we practice more than the football team...
6am - 9 or 10 pm during the summer, with scrimmages all summer? ya we dont come close to that...
plus at least 4 hours every weekday...plus the team has to be at skool at 6 am every morning for conditioning
i WISH we practiced like that...
maybe half our band would give a crap about any of it then...
but for us DEDICATED people, we live for it...at every practice, every game, ive missed two practices and no games/competitions for three years...no one else on the drumline can say theyve come even close to that...
needless to say, the drumline doesnt care, its quite sad really...
credits wise, Marching band and concert band are one and the same, half credit for PE, 2 years of PE credit needed to graduate, 4 years of marching band, works out perfectly : D
our skool doesnt care about us tho, they say they do but they dont. Were trying to reinstate our Band Boosters who disbanded at the end of this year, but weve been waiting 3 weeks now for approval from our principal. we need the BB to handle our money. tell me the administration cares now...

at my school if you play a sport that counts as PE credit so you dont have to take gym class but marhing band doesnt count. id like to see a football player go and try to march and play at the same time and make it sound and look good.

Yeah! I can't stand that. The cheerleaders come and talk about how incredibley hot it was in their air conditioned gym. And I broke a nail, and all the conditioning they did made them vomit, yeah right, anirexic conditiontioning. Marching dosen't count for a pe credit either, and that is gay!Our pe coach has the band run a mile on a friday knowing we have to do a show and I have bad directly after pe, so I had no breath and got chewed out for not useing enough air!

our football team loves the band they actually agree with us on the sport thing because they know we practice way more than them not to mention the fact that we win way more than they do. they don't like it when we can't make it to a game
