What was in the basket
The blue basket releases its secrets
It started rocking in the middle of the night. The heat from the day had long gone when Nirvelli was woken by the impatient kicks of the foal in the basket. Hoping nothing she was wrong, she guickly got out of bed and coaxed the coals from her small fire into flame for light. Then she checked the basket. Its muliple blue colored weaves were being kicked out of shape and slowly being broken by the foal inside. Her mind raced over what she had been told to do when this finally happened. The lid was carefully raised before the foal succeeded in destroying that as well and placed to one side as she peered inside. Deep blue eyes looked up at hers before they looked away and the foal tried to unsteadily get to its feet. Nirvelli sat back and let it work everything out for itself, not wanting to interfer with the first processes of its independence. The foal stood unsteadily and took in the place where it found itself. It was definatly very different from the basket that had been it's artificial womb but something inside told him that this was where he belonged. The human watching him must of been the one that he had heard around him , the one that had made the comforting sounds as she moved through her day. She was holding something out to him, he stretched his neck out to sniff it and the scent of the carrot wafted up his nose, the fresh smell of it inviting him to have it. He took it carefully from her outstretched hand and crunched loudly though it, enjoying the taste. He nickered softly for more when it was gone and he heard her laughter. "If you want more, you're going to have to step out of your basket and let me get a good look at you little one" She was moving away from him, taking the scent of the food with her. He hadn't understood what she had said to him but he wanted at least one more carrot. Watching carefully where he placed his hooves, the young foal took his first steps outside of his basket and slowly moved over to her. As he got closer to her and the glow of the fire, he heard her gasp in surprise and awe. He sniffed over her, looking for more to eat and she laughed again before holding out another carrot for him. This time while he was eating, she ran a hand over his body, tracing out some of his markings with her fingers. "You're beautiful... I'll have to think of a name for you." He watched her while she looked outside at the night sky and then back at him. "Midnight.. What a time to choose to leave your basket... So how about making that part of your name? Something like.. Midnight Dancer?" He nickered in reply and tossed his head.
Nirvelli stretched and yawned. She still needed sleep and tomorrow would be busy with making sure she had enough food for the new member of her family. She moved around the teepee, getting fruit and vegetables from various baskets that she kept nearby and placing them next to the now vacated basket. She made a mental note to clean the basket the next day and start using it for his food before she slid back into her bed. "Get some sleep little one, we'll get to know each other better in the morning." Midnight Dancer's stats Strength: 8% Courage: 8% Speed: 9% Intelligence: 4 % Luck: 8% Stamina: 5%

My place in this world?
The day after the foal arrives
Fresh grass and berries were sitting in his basket when he awoke. He guessed that his human had put them there as he could hear her moving about outside the teepee. He sniffed them before taking mouthfuls and slowly chewing. The events of his emergence from the basket he was now eating out of were still tumbling through his head. As he finished the last juicy berry he noticed her ducking back inside the teepee. "Oh good, you're awake and have eaten." She said cheerfully. "I didn't want to go far unless you were with me so I had my brother pick up your breakfast. We need to go out and find food for you for the next few days, hopefully we'll find a place close by where you can graze." He cocked his head at her, not understanding what she was saying but her smile made him feel better. He went up to her and nuzzled her hand, looking for more of the food that she had fed him last night. Her laughter rang through their home. "No more food for you, you'll get fat." She coaxed him outside of their teepee and he blinked in the bright sunlight before walking to follow his human. She was carrying a basket with her that looked smaller than his one and as they walked past bushes and trees, she added fruit into to. They came to a lush meadow, filled with new grass that looked really delicious and he bent his head down to taste some. It was sweet and slightly crisp and he couldn't help but take another mouthful to eat while following her. Once her basket was nearly full, she started making her way back. He had noticed that all the items in her basket were edible and decided to add his own into there. So as they went through the field, he carefully picked a large mouthful up before trotting back to her and placing his grass in the basket that she was carrying rather low. He heard her laughter again as she put the basket down and touseled his mane. The she too started picking up amounts of the grass and adding it to the basket. This was something he decided that he could do and so "helped" her by gathering his mouthfuls until the basket was full and they started back home. Once home, he watched her sort out their finds from the foraging, placing all his grass and a few fruits into his basket and the rest into other baskets with lids that were scattered around the teepee. The blueberries however, she left out, placing them into a pot of water and putting it over the outside fire to heat. Once it was really hot and smelled rather nice, instead of giving it to him (which was a much better idea according to the foal), she carefully placed in a large piece of leather and left it outside. All of this mornings activities had worn out the young foal, and after eating a few more mouthfuls of his grass, he curled up next to his basket and dozed off.
Nirvelli watched the young Midnight Dancer with a smile. Tomorrow her surprise for him would be ready but for now, he was safe and she knew she could spend some time in her garden while he slept

All my fault
Midnight Dancer grows up and leaves the teepee
Life had taken a steady pace for the young foal in Nirvelli's care. He took to following her while she was doing her chores and was starting to get strong enough to carry a small basket for her gatherings which she strapped onto his back. She had created a deep blue blanket for him which he now used as a sleeping spot beside her bedroll and he still ate his first meal of the day out of his old basket. But the time seemed to pass by too quickly for Midnight Dancer and all too soon he was getting too big to comfortable share the teepee with his human. Indeed, once he reached full adult height, the both of them realised that he could no longer spend every night beside her. While she feverously worked on making the teepee big enough for him, inside she knew that eventually he'll have to find his own sleeping place and start relying on her less. He took to sleeping close to the teepee, the only home he had ever known, until with the help of a few of the villagers, Nirvelli erected a shelter for him. It was big enough for 3 or 4 fully grown soquili to sleep in and had a lightweight cloth entrance so that he could push it aside to get inside. She had placed his basket and blanket in there too, hoping to signal to him that this was his new sleeping place. It took some time before the stallion used the shelter for other than eating in. The rain was coming down like a waterfall that night and the soaked Midnight Dancer tried coming into his humans teepee as he was so accustomed to doing. However, this time, she gently led him out of the small dwelling and to the shelter. Even though she was dripping wet, she dried him off as best as she could before going back to her bedroll. It took hours before he settled down however. Where was the warmth of the human to sleep next to? Eventually he grew weary and after another attempt of going back to the teepee ended up with being led back to his shelter, he decided to try to sleep where he was. He woke up refreshed and went to find his human. He found her coaxing her fire into life, sneezing almost constantly. Something inside knew it was how wet she got the night before, leading him to his shelter time and time again, always caring for him first. Guilt settled over him and while she was inside her teepee getting ready to face her chores as much as she could, he stole away, unable to face her. Nirvelli looked all over the village, calling Midnight Dancers name with no luck. She had been warned that sometimes soquili travelled, to either come into their own or to find a mate. All she could do was offer a prayer to the spirits to take care of him and bring him back safely to her.

A meeting
Midnight Dancer and Sunny meet
Midnight Dancer had been travelling aimlessly for days after leaving the safty of his humans teepee. Her comforting voice and soft hands were constantly in her thoughts yet he couldnt bring himself to find his way home. He didn't think that she would ever forgive him for making her sick, he didn't know that she could never hold that against anyone but herself. Lost in his own thoughts, he looked up and found himself in a plain that had been flooded with the rain from the night before he left. Although most of the water had drained away, the ground was still mushy to walk on and there were puddles of water dotted along the landscape. Realising his thirst, he stopped at one, dipping his muzzle in to drink deeply. Thirst quenched, he looked around him again, wishing against everything that he had company for this journey, wherever it was taking him.
]The little Usdia was far from home. She had no idea how far. The rain that had flooded the land where she lived had also managed to get her swept away from her family and friends. The water had pushed her into a fast flowing river which succeeded in carrying her even further before she was washed up on the side of it. She gasped for breathe and lay at the waterside, too exhausted from her struggles to stay abover the water to even think about moving away from the river. After some time, she realised that her rear hooves still rested in the murky water and she knew she would have to move away. Very carefully, she tried to place her front hooved under her, but the ground was like quicksand, and they just sunk in when she put weight on them. She fought back panic, what would happen if she was still here and it rained again? She had no idea how high the river would come in another flood and she had no wish to die here. She struggled again, finally succeeding in getting the front half of her body supported on her short front legs. Very carefully lifting one and then the other, she dragged her body a few steps forward before attempting to move her rear legs under her. This also took some time to do but she eventually managed it. Some time later, with a lot of persistance and seeming to find every single bruise and cut on her body, she found stable ground, far enough away from the river to think that she would be safe. Her body was covered in mud, but she didn't care. She was safe.
He decided to keep moving, the deserted plain chilled him. Something told him that he didn't belong here. Once again, he put his head down to the puddle, making sure he wouldn't get thirsty too soon, but he knew he should find a river or something to follow for fresh water. On the other side of the plain was more trees. Surely water must be around there somewhere? His footsteps squished underneath him as he set his direction for the trees. Even if there wasn't a water supply there, at least he would be able to find cover if it was to rain overnight again. As he got closer to the towering trees, the ground under him became more firm. He deftly moved between them. The darkness under the canopy was strangly comforting and his hooves made no sound on the floor beneath him. He was more alert now, his ears always twitching, listening for sounds of water or anything that might be unwelcoming to his presence. Finally he heard it, the splash and gurgle of flowing water. Smiling softly, he adjusted his path to find it.
She groaned softly. The sun was starting to dry the caked on mud to her body and she knew that it would take a lot of cleaning to get it all off her again. But she held no desire to return to the river that she had just come from. Deciding that maybe a roll on some dry grass would help her a little, the only problem with that, is that she couldn't see any close around her. She knew that unless she got the mud off soon, it would itch and become nearly unbearable. Setting of in a random direction, watching the ground for a dry patch in what seemed wetter than a swamp. She was so busy watching the grass under her hooves that she smacked her head right into the trunk of a very solid tree. An unexpected whinney of pain escaped her mouth and she found herself sitting on her rear end, dazed and trying to shake the fuzz from her mind.
Midnight Dancer found the river, but the shores of it were made of sticky mud. After taking one step into it he decided that he would have to look elsewhere for a drink or risk getting stuck in it. Then he heard the Whinney of pain from a short distance away. Looking around, he saw a small horse, covered in mud. It looked like it had just hurt itself and his instinct to care for others which had been taught to him by his human took over. A quick trot brought him to the little horse. In the patches of fur where there wasn't mud, he saw patches of blue. The little one looked up at him. "The tree jumped out and hit me" came the twinkling voice. Middy couldn't help but smile softly. "Are you ok?" His voiced was full of concern, this was obviously a foal that had gotten seperated from its parents. The foal shook its head to clear it and looked up at him again. "I'm fine, just a bump I guess." Middy looked over the mud covered body of the foal before his next suggestion. "Would you like some help getting that mud off your body? I can get some stiff leaved branches to brush you off with." She smiled. "That would be wonderful, it's already starting to itch." Middy quickly looked around the trees before finding one with branches suitable for the task. Taking on in his mouth, he pulled it down sharply, causing it to crack and break off the tree. It took a bit of brushing from him and occasional rolling on the ground from her before her true colors were visable again. He stood back and admired his handywork. She looked just like the horizon that he had been looking at for days on end. Lush green grass topped with cloudy blue sky. "You're an odd looking foal." he finally said. There was something just not right with this foals looks compared to what he knew from the village.
Foal? She laughed. "I'm not a soquili like you, I'm a Usdia. My name is Sunny." She couldn't help but smile at him. Obviously this stallion hadn't seen many like her, if any at all. She turned about in front of him. "I'm not a foal either, I'm fully grown. I am short compared to other adult Usdias though." She watched as his face went from confusion to vague understanding before he nodded. She didn't press to get him to understand any more, happy that he understood that she wasn't a foal that needed to be taken care of. "So what's your name?" "My human calls me Midnight Dancer, and sometimes she calls me Middy. I answer to both." She nodded at him. Then she looked around, noticing that night was quickly falling. "Middy, I think we need to find somewhere to sleep tonight. I don't feel comfortable sleeping out in the open." He nodded in agreement, not about to admit that he felt the same. Together, the walked deeper into the forest to sleep.
They spent many weeks together, when they found themselves close to her home. This is where she decided to go back to her herd and tell them that she was ok. Midnight Dancer was lost without her friendship and wandered around the area before meeting up with a mare called Nijita... They need a home
Midnight Dancer leaves baskets in the care of his human.
It was some months later when Midnight Dancer returned to the teepee. Not seeing Nirvelli around, he placed his parcel carefully in the intrance to her teepee. He was slightly unsure of what was in it. But the purples reminded him of the purple mare he had spent some time with and the white flecks over it were like his own markings. Hopefully she would know that it was his. The other basket he placed there was also purple in color. He don't know why he decided to bring that to the teepee, but something inside told him too. Nuzzling the baskets softly he remembered the mare that they resembled. He had met her after leaving Sunny with her family and they had spent some time together. She was a purple beauty with markings that reminded him of the rainbow, he couldn't help but want to spent time with her. Then one day, she gave birth to foals which were quickly bundled into baskets by a medicine woman. She had gifted him the two he had with him, keeping one that had colored the basket in shades of blue. Part of him wondered if he would ever see her or the contents of that basket again. But for now, he wanted to find Sunny again. The little usdia was a true friend to him and he was hoping to bring her to the safety of the teepee. One last nuzzle to each basket was given, "take care little ones, I'll be back when I can." Then he left, having a vague idea what way to go to find his friend.
Nirvelli had spent the day gathering supplies for the next winter, she missed having the company and the help of Middy, but he had been gone for nearly a whole year already and part of her thought that maybe something terrible had happened to him and that he would never return to her. She brushed the tears aside as she walked towards her teepee, the load of fruit to be dried heavy in her arms. Then she noticed that the entrance to the teepee was slightly open. Knowing that no one in the village would steal anything from another, her heart leapt, hoping that her beloved stallion had returned. She moved to her home as fast as she could, silently cursing the heavy basket that she carried. The basket was placed quickly outside while she threw open the slight opening of her teepee, expecting to see him. But he wasn't there. She sighed to herself before taking a deep breath to stem the tears that threatened. But what about the lean-to she had created for him? Not bothering to close the entrance behind her, she ran to the lean-to. Again, he wasn't there. But someone had been. Two purple baskets sat in his sleeping place. Inspecting them closely, she discovered they weren't just plain purple as they first appeared. One had slighly blue and purple markings on it while the other made her smile. Among the pale purple markings were specks that looked like the stars on Middys body. Now she believed that he had been here. But she was ill-prepared to take care of two foals. If she worked hard enough, then she might be able to, but she knew that she would be pushed for time unless she got help. She ran her hands over the starred basket, feeling the gentle body heat from within. Then she remembered a friend of hers that was ready to have a soquili of his own. Picking up the basket, she went to pay a visit to his teepee.

Time to go
Sunny leaves her herd, Middy tries to find his old friend
They wanted her to mate. Sunny was fuming as she faced her parents. They were trying to point out that there was a really nice usdia stallion that would be a really good father, he had already proven it when he fathered foals last season, and besides, she was of an age where she should be thinking of having foals of her own. She didn't understand why they were thinking that. Then it hit her, it was because she was gone for so long after the storm. Although that was months ago now, part of them was concerned that she would leave for good next time. For every usdia that left the herd, there had to be foals around or on the way to replace it, it was the herds way. Well, if this stallion was such a good father, he could have foals with some other usdia, she wouldn't let him near her. Pretending to agree with her parents until they left her alone, she let her thoughts wander to the dark blue soquili she had met so long ago. At least there was someone out there that didn't expect her to breed just for the sake of the herd. She didn't want to mate because she was expected to, but because she wanted to. She had the impression that the soquili stallion would only breed because he wanted to. Maybe she should find him again, the few weeks they spent together were fun and she had finally felt accepted for who she was. The sun had set when she made up her mind. Making sure the rest of the herd was asleep, she stole away into the dense forest surrounding them, not looking back, never planning on returning.
Where was her herd grounds? Although his coloring resembled the night sky, Midnight Dancer had a habit of getting lost after the sun left the sky. Trying to find some sort of landmark that he would remember from so long ago, he stamped a hoof in frustration. It was hopeless. He had to rest for the night, getting more lost now would not help him find his little friend. Another thought plagued his thoughts, what if she didn't want to come live with the human? He felt pulled in two ways, he knew no other life than with his human until he left, so there was an amazing loyalty there, however, Sunny was his first true friend and he really enjoyed spending time with her. Shaking his head, sending his mane flying and trying to remove the thoughts from his mind, he closed his eyes. A place to sleep was needed. Opening his eyes to the inky blackness, he looked around for a soft patch to relax in.
Out of hearing of the sleeping herd members, Sunny broke into a fast canter to get as far away from them as possible. She knew this forest better than anywhere else and now she was thankful of that. Moving swiftly, moving around trees that were in her path, she aimed to get as much distance between herself and the herd as possible tonight. They would be looking for her in the morning and she didn't want to risk them finding her. After some time, she found herself free of the trees. Using the moon as her light, she looked around. They way down the mountain this time wouldn't be as easy as it was last time, she would have to watch where she placed her hooves so that she wouldn't slip. Double checking every step, she proceeded to make her way to the plains below.
The dawn chorus woke him. Disorientated, he blinked a few times and looked around, trying to remember where he was. Getting himself upright, he made his way to where he was the night before to figure out where to go from here. His first thing though, he needed food and water, both of which should be plentiful somewhere near here. Listening very carefully for the sound of water, he was dissappointed when he heard none. Maybe there would be some on the outside of the forest. Picking a direction, he set out for the edge of the trees, occasionally grabbing a low leaf to munch on. The clearing that he found himself in didn't reveal any water, but in the distance he saw a mountain. Didn't Sunnys herd live on a mountain? He searched his memory until he placed it. But which mountain? The chances of that mountain being hers was really small. I guess it wouldn't hurt to at least look he thought. Maybe there would be water on the way. Taking a mouthful of the long grass around his hooves, he sucked off the morning dew before chewing it. One hoof in front of the other towards the distant mountain.
She was sure she would tumble the last few feet before the end of the mountain. The sun was just rising over the crest of the hill when she reached it and she enjoyed the light pricks of warmth that touched her. However, this also made her aware that she wasn't far enough away from the herd. She didn't really know if they would come looking for her but she wanted to be saftly away just in case. At least now, the ground was flat and had died off from the wet weather. Not stopping to eat, she tucked her head down and took off at a canter away from the only home she had ever known, not caring where she ended up.
There it was, the soft sound of water. Middy raised his head, swivelling his ears to pinpoint the direction of the much needed drink. Deciding on a direction, he turned his body to find the river that didn't sound like was too far away. He was right, just beyond another patch of trees was a river. Sighing with relief, he ducked his muzzle into the cool water and took a long drink. Wasn't there a river leading from the mountain that Sunny came from? Something was triggered in his mind and he started walking along the waters edge, towards the mountain in the far distance.
She didn't know how long she had been cantering for when she heard it, the river. It was only then that she realised that she hadn't eaten or drunk since nightfall. Mentally berating herself, she slowed down to a trot and altered her direction to the water. Was she far enough away? She had no idea how fast the fastest Usdia in the herd could travel. Inside her, she thought that she would never be safe until she was closer to humans. She shuddered at the thought. The herd she had come from was fully wild, only the birthing mares went to a lone medicine woman to have their foals placed into baskets, only to return as soon as they could, not wanting to be around humans for any length of time. Something in them was terrified of the two-legged creatures. She knew that Midnight Dancer had previously lived with a human and he had seemed shocked when she mentioned that she would never go near them except to have foals. Would being close to humans really keep her herd away? She would do it, after all, she wouldn't have to live as close as he did, just close enough to keep the herd away. But where was his human? She never had any idea where he had come from, they had never travelled close enough to his old home for him to point it out to her. Maybe he was back there? She had no idea where he went to after she went back to her mountain. She wondered if she would ever see him again.
There was a smudge in the sky he decided. A smudge that was drinking slowly from the river, it's small sides heaving as if it had been running for a long time. He frowned in concern, what had the smudge been running from? He hoped it wasn't anywhere near as he lifted his head and let a loud whinney of greeting escape towards his little friend. The smudge looked as if it might bolt away until it looked up and saw him. A huge grin spread over the face before it broke out in a fast trot to him.
"MIDDY!!!!" Sunny couldn't believe it was him standing there, a huge smile that matched hers on his face. Did silent wishes really come true this quickly? He replied with a gentle nuzzle on her shoulder. There was so much to catch up on, but that was ok, she had her old friend back. But would he take her back to his human? He told her to rest, obviously concerned with her over exertion. She knew he was right, so while she lay down, he stood guard over her listening to her story.
She wanted to go to live close to his human? Middy was surprised and happy. Of course he would take her back, he knew the general direction from here, it wouldn't take too long to get her safe from the pressure of being mated. They had decided to leave the next day, she hadn't slept since the night before she left and he could tell that she badly needed the rest, along with some food. Assuring her that he wouldn't leave her alone, he stayed close while she slept, watching out for any other usdias that would try take her away.
The next day dawned bright and clear. The oddly matched friends started making their way to the human village that Midnight Dancer called home. He had plenty of time to tell her the story of the mare he met and the three baskets, two of which were with his human. Deep inside, Sunny had a feeling that the foals inside those baskets belonged to her big, soft-hearted friend, but didn't want to say anything. Was it really her place to tell him that he was either about to be, or was already a father?
When they were in the forest that surrounded the village, Middy stopped. There was his human, helping a little purple foal eat some freshly picked berries and grass, just the way she used to with him. When Sunny said that she would explore the forest for the rest of the day, he nodded while watching the foal wander off to the feeding grounds where he used to go. Once the little one was out of sight, he let out a nicker of welcome to his human and emerged from the trees. She looked up at him and held out her arms which he trotted into to recieve a long overdue hug while he licked the salty tears off her face.

An Unlikely Friendship
Sunny finds that friends come in all sizes Sunny had taken to wandering along the seashore while her big friend got to know his son. She understood that he felt the strong connection to the foal, but them spending time together often left her for long periods alone. She didn't mind too much, but she was starting to get lonely. The seashore seemed to offer something to her, it calmed her restless spirit and eased her pangs for company.
The little seathi often spent his days playing in the corals around the shoreline, chasing smaller fish just for the fun of it and playing hide'n'seek with the anemones. He had never known any reason to fear anything and as far as he was concerned, he was the best thing in his swimming range. While he had mild curiosity about life outside the water, for the most part it never crossed his mind to live any other way. Then one day the worst happened, while he was jumping high to show off to the other seathi in the area, a freak wave knocked him away from the water, and tossed him high onto the shoreline. The wave had dowsed Sunny with water, she stood with a sigh and shook the excess from her body, thankful that the day was warm enough to dry her out pretty quickly. She heard a cry of distress coming from behind her, turning towards the sound, she saw a small creature flailing about, it seemed to be in a panic. Walking up to it to try and calm it down, she murmured soothing noises towards it. "It's OK little one, it was only a wave of water, it won't hurt you." The creature was tiny, smaller than a usdia foal and she examined it quickly. It's skin was drying out quickly but that seemed to be the reason for the panic. Then she noticed the tail.
Bonaventure whinnied in panic as the other creature picked him up in it's mouth. He tried to get loose but it wouldn't let him. Even though he was very secure, he also realized that there was no pressure in the teeth, just enough so that he wouldn't be dropped. It was a very short time before he found himself being dropped back in his ocean home. He stuck his head above the water and looked back at where he had come from. The other creature, which he could now tell was a land based soquili, was making it's way back to the drier land. it had brought him back a nice distance into the water, he could see the other soquili struggling slightly with each wave, but it made it safely back to where it belong. "Thank you!" he called out and saw the head turn towards him and smile. Sunny and Bonaventure started spending time together, her telling him about the life on land, of getting used to a human leaving food for her, of her other friend and his son, of the loneliness she felt. he in turn told her of life in the water, of not having to answer to anyone, of the thrill of swimming everywhere. neither of them were jealous of the other, but enjoyed the others company.
One day Bonaventure showed Sunny a brightly colored shell. She had been concerned as she had noticed that he seemed to be getting a little fat, but now that weight was gone. he told her that he had been carrying his young foals with him until they were big enough to go into shells, like the land based soquili used baskets. Sunny gazed at the bright shell again. So his baby was in there, just like Middy's baby was in the basket that he dropped off with his human so many months ago. She thought back to the day when she left her herd, and wondered what it would be like to have a reason to use the baskets.

Meeting
Bonaventure and Amitola meet. Done via PM, my first attempt at RPing with someone else in a looooong time. In progress.
Mahogany Sunset Amitola's morning swim had turned into more of a morning float. She'd planned on swimming a little farther than she usually did, but got bored after a while, deciding instead to look at the scenery. She'd spotted mainly river rocks and moss. She sighed. The river was so boring lately... No friends could keep her entertained underwater. They all lived on land. DemeterJade She wasn't on the shore today. Knowing that his usdia friend also spent time around the lake, enjoying watching the humans mix with soquili, he started swimming up the river. He had gone to the lake fairly infrequently, preferring to stick to the coastal waters. But he liked visiting there for a change of scenery, not that he would ever think of leaving his small family to live there. He glanced casually behind him occasionally, wondering where the bright females were hiding this morning. Not that he could blame them for hiding, most likely too shy to be seen with a seathi as amazing looking as him. Mahogany Sunset Amitola drifted along slowly, rounding a bend in the river. The sun, shooting little beams through the water, shone in her eyes for a minute. She closed them quickly, but lingered in the spot, letting the sun warm her a little. Warmth was rare in the water at this time of year; being able to get a bit of sun was a rare treat. DemeterJade Not a mare in sight, in the water or on the land. Bonaventure sighed, annoyed. But wait! What was that? Turning his head slightly as not to be noticed, he saw a nearly pure black mare, sunning herself in the gentle waves, the sunlight rippling over the brightly colored markings on her body. What a beauty. Bonaventure puffed up his chest and tossed his mane, letting himself drift into a patch of sunlight, letting the light play over his colorings. he'd have her chasing after him in no time, he was sure of that. Positioning himself so that he looked like he was just resting there, but kept one eye on the mare. Mahogany Sunset This was definitely better than staying in the lake all day, Amitola decided. There was way more warmth in the river, which seemed counter-intuitive, but she didn't mind much. Warmth was good. A delighted sigh escaped her, and she opened her eyes. A Seathi stallion was sunning himself not two yards away from her. Surprised, she tilted her head to the side a little. Amitola had met very few others of her kind in her short life. This one looked handsome, if the ones she had met (mother, father, brother) were anything to compare him to. Dark and handsome, with his red-and-blue mane and earring. "Hello?" she said, a little timidly. She hadn't talked to a stallion that wasn't her brother in a long time. DemeterJade He watched her looking him over and was pleased, this was the effect he was hoping for. Then she spoke. This shocked him somewhat, usually his flock of following females just giggled between each other and blushed when he looked at them, for a mare to be brave enough to actually speak to him was very rare indeed. One eyebrow arched at her questioned greeting and he tilted his head slightly before replying, hoping his voice was it's usual smooth tone, "Hello yourself." He pretended to stretch his body out in relaxation, but made sure to move in such a way that all his best assets were up for show.Mahogany Sunset Amitola frowned at him. "What does that even mean?" But she couldn't help noticing the way his bubble-like markings glowed a little and his earring gleamed in the sunlight as he stretched out, looking relaxed. Her mother had taught her well... She knew instinctively that he was a perfect show-off. Just arrogant and charming enough to display his markings without looking like that was his intention. Even though her mother had taught her better, his movements had an effect on her. Her heart did a weird little flutter she wasn't used to. Not good. Abruptly, she turned and swam very slowly in some vague direction (though she knew that somewhere, deep down, she wanted him to come after her), knowing he could catch her if he really wanted to. DemeterJade He watched her start to swim away, noticing that she didn't seem focused on where she was going. She'd come back, he was sure of it, but he made sure to turn so he could watch her. "It means hello. Why don't you stay in the sun? It makes a lot more sense to stay warm than to swim off into the colder water." For some reason this mare fascinated him and he couldn't figure out why, part of him was eager to get her to talk more, just to get her to stay where he could see her, but another part just wanted her to act like the other silly mares that giggled and sighed over him. At least like that she would be easier to ignore.Mahogany Sunset Amitola stopped when tendrils of cooler water reached out to touch her. He was right. It didn't make sense to leave the warmth. "Fine," she whispered to herself. "I'll go back, but I will not fall over myself." She swam slowly and delibrately back to him, trying to stay aloft and graceful as she did so. Or, at least, show that she had some dignity, if that didn't work. She joined him in his little patch of sunlight, contemplating her options. She could leave again, she could say hello again, or she could introduce herself. "I'm Amitola," she said cautiously. "What's your name?" DemeterJade This one kept surprising him. Although he was quite pleased that she returned to where he was enjoying the warmth, he was also rather impressed that she kept her cool around him, even her slight muttering to herself before she returned didn't bother him too much, even though he had no idea what she was saying at that point. "Amitola..." he rolled the name around in his head, enjoying the way it sounded. "I'm Bonaventure." he offered his name easily. No doubt she'd recognize it and know that every mare was after him, and then she'd count herself lucky to be alone in his company. Or would she? He just couldn't figure her out. Then he realized that he should of been shocked. She had offered her name, without a giggle, or a soft lustful sigh. He very rarely found out mares names, in his head he referred to them as "pinky, blue thing, giggle-to-much.." but almost never by name. While she was certainly different than other mares, was she really that different?

I have something for you
Tetsuya has a gift for the human
Tetsuya dropped the basket in his and his fathers sleeping area. Unlike his father though, he knew the meaning of the basket and he knew of the treasures kept inside. He had enjoyed the time he had lived with the kind human, he had also really enjoyed getting to know the mare that he did, the one that produced the small foal that was safe in the basket. But now, he had an urge to travel. His father had often spoken of the sights he had seen while on his travels. Stories of meeting the small usdia and of finding a mare to spend some time with. What really caught his interest though, was the chance to see something new, possibly something that had never been seen by a soquili that lived near these humans. So they had struck a deal. He was to wait until the foals were safe in their baskets and make sure that their human knew of it, before his father and him would leave the village and travel together. Midnight Dancer had already been in one direction, so they made their plans to leave in the other. He just about danced in delight at the idea, but first, the human must know. Screwing up his nose, he went in search of her, finding her in the communal garden that she shared with a few other villagers. Very gently, he used his teeth to tug on her clothing.
Nirvelli looked at the purple stallion, her Middy's son. He tugged on her again, somewhat urgently, but there was delight in his huge eyes and she smiled at him. "I'm coming Tet, hang on, let me get some more corn picked for dinner tonight." But obviously, he wasn't going to let her do this small task as he tugged again, this time, refusing to let go until she stood fully upright. Sighing, she started to follow him to their little lean-to. Now Tetsuya stood behind her and nudged her back, pushing her into the opening in the leather that acted as a weather breaker. Laughing softly, she went inside and looked around. Everything looked normal, at least that's how it seemed at first glance. As she went to step out, the purple stallion blocked her way. What was he trying to show her? She looked around again before she saw it. Light blues, swirls of darker blues, scattered over with white points of light. Midnight Dancers stars. At once she knew who's basket this was. She had seen Tetsuya hanging around with the silvery mare and guessed there might of been a romance going on between them. Stepping outside once again, she wrapped her arms around his neck and breathed a promise to care for it before she noticed her beloved Midnight Dancer standing to the edge of the forest. As Tetsuya started moving towards him, tears sprung to her eyes as she realised what was happening. Middy was leaving her again, but this time, his son was going too. All of a sudden, her legs grew weak and she found herself on the ground, silent tears falling as she watched them vanish into the trees. "I promise I'll care for you baby Tetsuya, we'll be here when you get home again..." Personal note: It's been so long since I've done anything here, so most of my RPs are going to be somewhat out of place until they're all caught up. I'm just letting my muse run with it.

Asha's Big Mistake What have I done? Was it some strange grass I ate? I knew that spending time at the gathering of various Soquili was a mistake. Days later, I was feeling ill, and within no time, I was growing fat and felt movement inside me. Pregnant. But with no idea of who or what the father is. There were quite a few good looking stallions at that gathering, but which one did I get too close to? Only time would tell. And tell it did.
As per the normal way of things, I went to the medicine woman who took my newly born foals and slipped them into baskets. She kept one with her, as if she knew who the father was. Medicine women seem to know a lot more than they let on. The other, she carefully rigged a carrier so that I could carry it, hanging from my teeth until I reached my usual sleeping grounds.
I went there slowly, watching the basket gain the colours of the foal within with the secret magic in all Soquili. The dark blue tones interested me, I didn't remember a blue stallion at the gathering. Perhaps I ran into him later on? The basket was placed safely close to where I sleep and for the time it took for the foal to emerge, I never left it.
The muzzle emerged first, blue swirls, followed by bright green eyes with markings below that made it seem like he was weeping dark tears. The start of a black mane but what was next? Horns. Two sets of horns, the first pair being rather short, but the second, sweeping in a curve behind his ears. His blue swirls continued over his body, with black ankles and hooves, and lastly, his black tail. Other than his horns and eyes, he looks like a regular soquili. I shall name him Musa. A wish. But is he a wish for good? Or evil? Only time will know.

TWO BASKETS Midnight Dancer's little herd doubles.Father and son prepared to leave the herd of other Soquili, both of them carefully guarding baskets. Midnight Dancer had a brilliant yellow with a multi-blue brim, while Tetsuya's was a mixture of brown and green, with a soft pink brim. Midnight Dancer was curious as to why the mares had decided to give them baskets, but remembering the purple basket that another mare had given him, so long ago, he started thinking that maybe they were gifts. Had he done the right thing by taking the first basket back to his human? Even though, this time, he was too far from home to take it back, he would have to bring it with him. Tetsuya on the other hand, knew exactly what was in the baskets. He was very aware when Trinity Rose grew big with foal, and he watched curiously as his fathers mate, Bubbles, grew as well. He was very interested in the little lives inside the baskets that they were taking with them but also thought about the other four baskets that were left behind. Leaving them behind wasn't his choice, if he could of, he would of taken the other two baskets that Trinity presented him with, and her with him. But she had taken him aside one night and explained that she had fallen in love, with another mare. while he was upset with it, he couldn't refuse her the chance of true love and promised that if he could, he would come and visit her. He knew that would be the only chance he had of ever seeing the other foals. He did think of staying, if only to help raise his foals, but he knew that he would always feel an outsider without a mare of his own, and because the other mare had agreed to help raise the foals, he knew they were going to be very well raised. As the sun rose, both stallions took their baskets and left. They had discussed going home, but something inside them urged them to continue. Their saw them following the western edge of the mountain range. Whenever they took the time to eat, sleep or socialise with other soquili, there was always at least one of them watching the baskets. Midnight Dancer originally wanted to open them, to see what was inside, it was only after a lively discussion with Tetsuya that he agreed to leave them closed, at least for a while. It was right in the middle of the day when loud noises could be heard coming out of both baskets. Midnight Dancer was so surprised that he nearly dropped his, whereas Tetsuya just smiled and gently lay his on the ground. Thankfully, his father followed his example and watched, wide-eyed as the tops of both baskets slowly got urged off. The bright yellow head emerged from Midnight Dancers basket first, and the tall stallion nearly fell over in surprise. A foal. His foal? Bubbles's foal? Then suddenly a glimmer of sunlight seems to emerge in his mind. The purple basket and the purple stallion that he had decided to travel with. Tetsuya emerged from that purple basket, just like this yellow foal was from this basket and next to it, a green and brown head coming out of the other basket. He looked back at Tetsuya. "Is there something you should explain to me?" Tetsuya saw the understanding in his father's eyes, an understanding that turned warmer towards him as he explained where these "gifts" came from and who they were. "I left a purple basket with the human before leaving to find Sunny, when I came back, there was a little purple foal. You came out of that basket didn't you?" Tetsuya's only answer was a smile. By this time, both foals had fully exited their baskets and had noticed each other. They were both colts, with personalities as different as their looks. Now that Midnight Dancer understood his relationship to this colt, he named his foal Sol Dancer, while Tetsuya named the flowery colt Nalin. They took the rest of the day to let the colts get used to their new legs and for the small family herd to get to know each other. But once again, the next day saw the group heading west again, the urge to continue driving the stallions on.

This is who I am Muna defines himself He hated her Sure, she was apparently his mother, and judging by the markings on their bodies, there was proof enough. It didn't mean anything to him though. He was certain that it was because of her inferior regular blood, that he was taking so long to grow. She was a vegetarian and originally tried to get him to eat the same way while his stomach craved for meat and blood. She originally tried to mother him, but soon gave up when his teeth tore some of her flesh away from her. She hated scars in any form. Once she gave up on him, she seemed to spend every moment either with different males of the various herds, or trying to entice them to spend some "time" with her. She didn't care who they were or what breed. He started spending time in the space between his home grounds and the closest kalona herds. He knew he was at least part kalona, and they didn't care who his mother was. At least they threw him mice when they realised that he was slowly starving, being unable to hunt for himself. As they got better acquainted, they started teaching him to hunt. He relished the taste of every bite and was in bliss with the feeling of warm blood tricking down his throat. This was much better than grass. His body grew stronger, and from mice, he moved onto hunting rabbits, ferrets, squirrels, raccoons and more. These more challenging game, he used them to fine tune his hunting skills in preparation for when he was big enough for stronger victims. His mother hated how he often came back to their sleeping area smelling of the blood from his last meal. Those were the nights where she left for a stallions comfort. Once he realised this, he came back with that smell around him more often. One day he would be strong enough to never need the protection of the herds, strong enough to form a herd of his own and no insignificant regular soquili will ever darken his days again.

What is this? Sol Dancer and Nalin get in trouble They were the best of friends. Their personalities completely complimented each other. The headstrong one was often the one that had the ideas for some crazy scheme while the other tended to try reason it out, to avoid getting them in trouble with their fathers. This wasn't going to be a day when he would succeed however. "Come on 'Lin! I saw it just through the bushes here.." The yellow foal called back to his friend. The murky foal shook his head, sending his mane in all directions. "I don't think it's a good idea, it'll be nightfall soon, and you know that Grandfather and Father don't like for us to be away after the sunset." But Sol Dancer was stubborn. He had seen something interesting and was determined to check it out, no matter what his nephew thought of the idea. He glanced back and smiled as Nalin slowly followed. He was right, what he had seen wasn't far away, laying on the ground, quite still really, with a few little bugs flying in and out of it. He sniffed the air, it smelt sweet, really sweet. The smell was coming from that thing on the ground. With his head down, he moved closer to it. "Do you think that's safe?" came from his companion "Of course it is, these little bugs couldn't hurt us. And anyway, we're just looking. There must be something yummy inside it though." He nudged it with his nose, making it buzz loudly. This startled him slightly, but it calmed down after a short amount of time. "There must be something trapped inside it" he thought. Without warning, he raised himself up on his hind legs and sent his front hooves crashing though the strange, buzzing thing. Big mistake. The swarm of bees were ANGRY and not just angry in general. Angry at the two foals who were close by. Almost as one, they aimed for the closest, the bright yellow one. Sol's eyes widened in shock. What were these things? The first sting made him whinny in pain, the many more that followed had him screaming in pain and fear. Him and Nalin turned and raced back to their fathers. Midnight Dancer and Tetsuya heard the noise, and thinking their sons were under attack, they galloped towards the sound. Upon seeing the bees, they turned and started leading the way towards the river. "Get to the river!" yelled Midnight Dancer, "take a deep breath and go fully underwater for as long as you can!" The foals obeyed as the stallions did the same, trying to avoid the stings of the annoying insects. It seemed like forever before they left. The foals and stallions had been taking fresh breaths as they needed them, using the time to check for more attacks. Once it was safe, all four made their way back to shore. The adults were furious. But one look at the foals faces and the sting welts appearing over their bodies was enough punishment. The found a plant with soothing sap and smeared the leaves over the worst areas before sending the foals to a safe area to sleep. This would be something to chuckle over later, but not tonight.
