'How many in your family then?' she asked. After all, he'd learned a great deal about her this day, now it was his turn to speak about himself. She would be able to relax more if the attention was turned away from herself for a bit.
'I suppose..' she said quietly, to his question about when they could leave. 'I just hope. Well, please don't expect me to be as forthright with your family as I've been with you. I will be polite, don't mistake me, I'm never rude. But, well I won't speak much of myself.'
If he wanted to keep her? For some reason that needled Sohalia. Alot. What was wrong with her? 'Why wouldn't you want to keep me?' she asked outright. She might keep stuff about herself bottled up, but she always spoke her mind. She didn't understand why it would even matter to her if this stallion wanted her or not. But it did matter.
'I don't want you to.' That surprised her as well, but she had fallen quiet when he spoke again of her merits, and what he saw in her that she didn't, couldn't just yet. 'I don't want you to stop.' The words slipped out, straight from hindbrain to mouth.

Vohamanah had kept his eyes on her all the while. The lack of resistance in her eyes, and the growing relaxation of her body's muscles were indicators to him it must be going better.
"Well, I have my mom and dad. Then, I have two basket siblings. I have one adopted brother. Then, on my dad's side, I have my grandma, grandfather, and I have one aunt and an uncle. My grandparents are a very romantic pair. They are very lovey dovey with each other. I think that when my father was growing up. He had that benefit of living under such a warm presence. When he met my mom, he was taken with her right away. They are a very romantic pair now as well. I suppose it might seem that everyone in our family who has a benefit of growing up under that umbrella of love and nurturing all seem to have a draw to such type of things."
He had been going on when he heard her mention she would go and meet them. "Ah! Great! Then it's settled. You can come with me. Just because we go to where I normally live. Sure, we'll run into my family and the two legged one; however, we don't have to just be around them all the time. You're welcome to have your space... as much as you like. And.. we'll worry about my extended family when you're ready for it. I'm sure life will help guide us, so that things will happen as they are meant to in their own time."
He just couldn't surpress his optimistic nature. It was just running over and springing forth. He almost couldn't contain it building up within him. He then smiled deeply and held his chin down against himself. His eyes lidded softly.
"I really didn't mean I didn't want to keep you. Not in the way that I wouldn't like to take you with me. I just mean in the way that.. You're not like a necklace or a bracelet. I can't just say. Oh.. well, I like this, so it belongs to me. I hardly think that's a way to treat someone like you. Besides, I would much rather you want to go and of your own free will."
Then, he crooned his head over. He used his horn to move all the hair out of her face, not just from her eyes. He breathed softly and looked straight on at her. His voice then quieted to just above a whisper. It was gentle. "Ok then.. My affection is yours to have then."
He propped his front legs up, and he crooned his head down to the top of her head. He nibbed in a few random spots, softly and gently as he could, softly cooing in a hushed voice, not really to say it to her. He was rather just mumbling it to himself in an almost audible voice. "Mmmm.. sohalia.. the lovely dark beauty... "

She listened as he spoke of his family, telling of the members of it and describing how his grandparents acted towards each other. Wasn't that how it should be for everyone? It was no wonder that he had no idea what it was like to grow up as she had done, his relatives showed nothing but love to one another.
'As you say, I'll come with you. And as you also say, I will have my space.' Sohalia would let Vohamanah into her personal space now, but only him. The others, much as she would be on her best behaviour and respect them, that would possibly be all they got from her.
She nodded; 'I realise that. But..' she paused, unsure how to explain herself. 'You've done something to me, little flutter, shiny stallion. I don't know why you have such confidence in me, I'm sure I haven't done anything to induce it. I've rambled. I've stormed and shouted. I've bared the ugliest part of me, and you're still here. And I like it..'
Sohalia looked up at the stallion. 'You have mine. It's not much..but I hope I can give you more, the longer we are together.' This was a descision she might live to regret. She was scared, worried that she'd been so foolish, letting him in and not leaving after her outburst. But despite what some might think of her withdrawn nature, it wasn't because she was a coward. Intimacy didn't frighten her. It was what that might lead to that was at the root of it all.

He did something to her? Well... He felt like something was definitely a flutter inside himself since he came there as well. He felt like he had stepped into something that had always fitted him. Though he had never tried it before.
He could say that when he brushed against her. That was nice. The smell of her hair was nice. The glints of blue in her hair were lovely. Despite her emotional outburst, he actually thought of her outburst as more of a strength then of a weakness. He thought the vulnerability she displayed was singularly unique beyond any display or manner of conversation he had with anyone.
She surprised him the most when he heard she wanted to give him affection. Here she was... being more nice.. See... He felt. Now more than ever, he was feeling immensely happy he hadn't left or retreated from her. Then, his mind wandered into another idea. Maybe... it isn't entirely about trust at all. Maybe... she just... needs a little love. Or, perhaps she needed more than a little.
Deeper, Vohamanah started to feel a birthing earnest feeling. He could give her love. Right? Could he give her.. the love to help make something right in her?
Then, he got up, and he looked down at her face. He smiled. He could feel his heart pound. "According to my guess, it should take us about two days to reach my homelands on foot. We can stop and camp somewhere between here and there on the day. Likely, it's easiest if we head north through the forest. The forest runs out at the plains just to the east of where we live by the river. I am sorry it is such a long walk."

How quiet he'd gone after she told him of what little affection she felt she had to offer was his. Was it a happy stillness, a calm bought about by contentment? Or was he about to shatter the fragile picket fence of trust she'd started building in their short time together?
Oh how terrible it was to be always second guessing yourself and what others thought! Was this what it meant to be open with another, always worrying that they thought less of you than they seemed to be actually saying? Sohalia made a conscious decision to try not to think about it any longer. It was hard though. Like being told not to think of a big pink and purple spotted bird. No matter what you did, your thoughts wandered back to it.
She stood slowly, stretching each leg in turn as she did so, shaking so that for a moment the crimped waves of her mane and tail flared out around her, the jewels catching the light. 'That's not long at all,' she said with a little smile. 'It took me longer than that when I ended up in this area. My home is far away.'
Far away and another lifetime it felt like. She looked at him, which with his looks was always easy to do. With that in mind, she felt she would have to question him further, again about his assertion that he had no one special in his life. He came from a loving couple, why had he not sought the same for himself? If he was stringing her along...if there was someone, and even, spirits forbid! children as well. He would not see her for dust.

Vohamanah had just been watching her in silence. He had mostly just been soaking up in her all the different vibes she had been putting out. He wanted to much to understand. He started to think he was just barely starting to see more and more flickers of the real her. He really wanted to meet the her she kept hiding.
Her comment about not that long gave him a chuckle. Then, he saw it. Was that... a secret smile? Smiles did look rather lovely on her. Why did she have to insist on not wearing one?
But oh, that means she left her life. Was something really so terrible she had to leave it all behind? Though he had to admit, if anything ever really went wrong in their herd. He might not stay either. His need for optimism and positive thinking would have to send him away. He wouldn't be able to bear such overwhelming negativity.
Then he stood up as tall as he could. He looked at her with a wide smile and grin as he trotted in a circle. He could feel excitement building up in side. Before he was about to take off, his eyes feeling glossy from watching her shake her hair around. He stepped up in front of her. Gently, he placed his nose against her nose. Her lidded his eyes for a moment.
"This is going to be great. Just you wait and see. It will be." He said it with all the earnest and vigor that was in him. It was with every drop of sincerity. It was almost even; he said it out loud to himself as much as he said to her.
Then, with lidded eyes, he kept thinking about that small smile. How precious was that? It made his heart beat again. Such a pressing and thumping that he couldn't just ignore it. He just thought to himself... ~hmm... could that...~

Sohalia did smile; but just not about her own self, her own life. She would smile to be polite, smile at a joke another told, smile when it was appropiate in a conversation. But for herself? She had little in the way of family and had lived in a state of self induced loneliness. There wasn't much that turned her 'frown upside down'. But the smile then had been genuine.
'Hi..' she said quietly, letting him press his nose to hers, even being bold enough to push back a little with her own. 'You're right. We'll see. I'll let you carry the optimism for the pair of us okay?'
Sohalia noticed how tall he was trying to make himself be. Was he trying to impress her? He'd pretty much already done that by having a flexible enough attitude to realise that not everyone had the privilege to grow up in a secure environment. 'I'm ready if you are?' she asked, her head tilted as she looked at Vohamanah.
Well..it wasn't entirely truthful, she told him that she was ready, but she wasn't sure if she ever would be ready to meet his family so soon. It felt like a large step that she was undertaking for someone she had literally just met. But it was a day of firsts.

Vohamanah felt immensely pleased that she pushed back. He was starting to feel more and more that if he would just follow more of these impulses. His natural pull of what to do was leading him correctly.
"Let's do it then!" With that, he was off in a trot.
Truth be told; he wasn't the fastest soquili ever. If he ever really had a significant area of lacking, that was it. He had great courage and a strong spirit; however, speed wasn't one of the things he had. He could fly a little faster than he could run even. That was partly why he did it so often.
It was in running that his mane ever looked as splendid as it would at times. The glints of the sun which was quickly starting to set behind them, and the coming of the moon. His hair seemed to catch all of it.
He noticed those little blue beads in her hair would catch it also. He horn shone bright as well. He felt so proud. She was coming with him. He had won her over, and he did it because he didn't run. Who knew you could discover something so great by toughing it out a little. Well, not something.... someone....
He felt his heart beat even more. His heart was stirring so fiercely. Is this... a feeling his parents had? When they first met?
