When I showed my mum a lolita magazine, she said "Oh! That's sort of like stuff we wore in the 70's." ::Shrug:: Other than that, she hasn't said much about it, and assumes that when I make something like a skirt it's for cosplay.
And dude, where are you getting your plus-sized lolita stuff? XD I want in. (>o>)/~<3 Please?

It's expensive though. @_@ But thats because it's tailor made, meaning infinate sizes! rofl I recently bought a blouse from http://www.inthestarlight.com/The lady who runs it is uber nice, and her work is very well done. I suggest measuring your body first. especially from shoulder to where you want your blouse to stop. 3nodding

You're welcome. It fits kind of funny though. Like, there's a LOT of space in the chest, like it's made for a person 3 cup sizes larger than me. But if i look now,.. maybe it's supposed to be like that. But across the chest, it kind of gaps open like I missed a button when I buttoned it up. And collar sticks up a lot, so you might want to startch it down well, or safty pin it. I wore it today, without the sleeves. I got two compliments. ^_^

My mom was sorta the one who got me into lolita. a long time ago, I found the article on a CTA train while I was at my dad's, and when I got home, my mom had saved me the same article because they thought I would be interested in it. Little did they know it would become a large part of my life. I dont know if they expected me to adopt th esubculture, but i must say Ive found a niche.
there inital reactions: when I talked about it (ie. in response to the article): stepdad - "those girls dress like lolipops" I thought That was cute mom - "I thought you would be interested in that" real dad - dont remember
when I started wearing it - stepdad - "we have a leprechaun for a daughter!!" (???wtf?? I wasnt even wearing green! I have a weird family) mom -"no, shes a gothic lolita!" later when I wore kodorori out once, she was all complaing "why do you always look like your in a victorian play?'
but they understand I like it, and I think its more acceptable to them than other styles Ive been interested in (ie. punk which they associate with druuuuuuuuuugs, and stereotypical goth wich they associate with being plain scary.)
mainly mmy mum is just worried taht I'll get made fun of because I lok diferent. I dont really, most people like my outfits. I only dress fully loli on thursadays anyway.

I guess I'm fairly lucky in this sense. My mum know's I'm weird (I dress up in Renaissance dresses or my yukata for no reason, and go to school dressed like that), so she just accepts it. My entire family's odd, with the exception of my father (Conservative and unaccepting). My way to deal with him, I just don't tell him. He wants to treat me like a little kid, and wouldn't get that I'm into more adult things. So he knows nothing of gothic lolita, the SCA, my manga preferences, my sexuality, none of it. Some day I'll tell him, but considering I'm still a kid and must see him twice a week, now's not the time.
Tell your mum how much it means to you, and be sure to explain the differences between 'lolita', and gothic lolita in full detail. Show her some pictures (choose carefully) and hopefully she'll be okay with it. Good luck ^^

Ah man. My mom and I love Lolita fashion. She helps me make some of my skirts and such, and we look through Ebay for the stuff constantly. I guess it's 'cause I've always been open about all that stuff to her, or maybe because she knows I'm not a bad kid. I guess her being an artist helps too. But tell your mom it's more of a polished, refined fashion, nothing at all to do with XXX. It's about manners and ettiquette and such. [ I'm so off in my spelling this evening. ] Hopefully she'll understand.

My parents always knew I did everything differently.
Im definatly not like anyone else in my family. They're more like those people who are very sociaable, go to parties constantly, things like that. I personally tend to stay home, draw, things like that.
My clothing choice was always different too. Plus, if theres something I enjoy, then theres nothing they can really do about it. (Its amazing being 18! xD)
Just be clear to your parents that its not some weird fetishy thing. xD

My mum still thinks Lolita clothes are a bit odd, but shes very sipportive- for example I was making a dress out an old mans shirt and she came home, took one look at it and said 'if you cut the sleeves off it will look more like a dress and you cam use the sleeves as legwarmers' Result= I have an amazing tarten punk-Lolita dress with matching legwarmers! heart My mums amazing!
