"I don't have the siren's song, I don't have water control. Animal empathy is the one thing I have on my side. But... I'm the best at it." Ah, Veli was proud of his talent.
"Well, good job, suga'," Noah nodded.
Time passed, and Veli tapped Noah on the shoulder. "You.. You should get back up to the boat, spend a little time above water. About out of air." He pointed to the gauge on the tank.
Noah looked down and nodded.
"I have another one...another five, actually. I'd rather spend time with you..."
And more time was spent, until darkness fell. Veli looked up towards the boat, carefully swimming up a bit.
"S'time to go back to the boat, Noah. It's night time."
Noah frowned.
"I don't want to leave you."
"I gotta stay in the water." Veli sighed. "I'll be fine, I'll call up some sharks to watch out for me. You need to take care of yourself and dry out."
The frown only got deeper.
"I'm not worried about you," Noah said as his head broke the surface. Ah, not more rubber in his mouth, "I...oh, nevermind. Just stay nearby, alright?"
Floating just beneath the surface, Veli nodded. The unmissable large form of Mama was below them, hopefully not close enough to freak Noah out. She was watching out for her little one, yes yes.
Noah gave the shark a little wave and rolled over, knocking his head on a bench. Owwww.
...eh, whatever.
He pulled some blankets up over him, curling up.
He wasn't going to a bedroom where he couldn't hear what went on outside...
More sharks swirled around, Veli curling on Mama's back. He was surrounded by them, all swimming in a dedicated circle around him and the large female hammerhead.
"Good night, Noah." It was Veli's voice, but had the same whispery tone that the other merfolk's voices did.
Noah blinked. God, this was scary.
"Night, suga'," he said softly, staring at the wall of the boat. Yep. He wasn't getting any sleep tonight.
Not long after Noah had left the sea, an odd singing started up. Like a lullaby, but coming from under the sea in humming. Perhaps made by Veli, or the sharks that watched him, it was meant to comfort.
Below, Veli had his 'thumb' in his mouth, one arm draped over the side of Mama's flank. Normally, he wouldn't be sleeping himself, but he hadn't slept right for days, and the exhaustion and the natural sleep inducing properties of his home worked against him.
And Noah was awake...so awake. Without the oddly cold fishman beside him, things just didn't feel right.
...damnit, he'd gone soft.
It was early the next morning when something hit the side of the hull. Whatever it was scratched at the side of the boat, like it was trying to climb up.

...what the...
Noah's immediate thought was someone moving the anchor. His poor, bleary, exhausted eyes rose...but nothing more. Agh, so weak...
JThe scratching stopped, and there was a wet plop on the deck. And then a cool hand that smelled like the sea was on his brow, a head on his chest, kissing at it.
Veli had missed his Noah.
Noah smiled, huge rings under his eyes, eyes bloodshot.
"Missed you," he said, leaning up to kiss his Veli, not giving a damn what form he was in (and completely mentally unable to notice).
"Feel better?"
Veli happily returned the kiss, sighing.
"Much." He did. Full of energy and strength, he hadn't felt this good in years. "I missed you too."
He wrapped his arms around Noah, noting the eyes. "C'mon. This boat's got a bedroom, right? You need to sleep some more before we get going."
"I'm glad," Noah said and nodded, rubbing his eyes.
"Couldn't sleep without you," he admitted after a moment. D'awww.
Veli gave an odd little chirp, nuzzling him. Wrapping both arms around his torso, he hefted the man up onto his feet.
"C'mon, need to nap for a bit. Mama wants us to wait. She said something about "Getting present for nice Baby's mate." It should be amazing."
Noah shuddered as he half-shuffled, half-stumbled into the bedroom. Ugh. Dead fish? He cold do without, thanks. And he collapsed into the bed, taking Veli with him...and....the...BAM. Out like a light.
Veli snuzzled against him, smiling and stroking at his face. Such a good man, so loving. He hummed under his breath, touching him every so often, to let him know he was loved.
Noah smiled as he slept, occasionally pulling Veli closer, petting, loving. Aww, even when unconscious, he was loving.
Veli hummed and crooned, stroking Noah's skin. His eyes were closed, happy and content to wait for Noah to wake up. Such a good man.
Sleepy Noah slept for only two hours before his eyes opened. Ah, so much better.
Nose wiggling, Veli looked up at him, grinning. "Good morning, Noah." He said, beaming. "Feel better?"
"Mm," Noah said about as articulately as he could, "Definitely."
"Good." Veli stroked his cheek, kissing at his neck. He loved and snuzzled and kissed, happy and healthy and full of energy.
"Should we start back?" Noah smiled, "I'll be damned if I know how to work this thing."

"I can..." Veli tipped his head to one side, listening. "Okay. I can pilot us. But get a bucket, Mama caught your present."
Oh, s**t. Noah blinked and pulled the fish-holder from the floor.
"Pleasetellmeshedidn'tkillanything," he begged.
"I told her you don't eat fish. You eat seaweed and stuff." Veli explained, moving towards the side of the boat.
"She feels swimmy fins in her mouth, so they're alive."
EH. SHARK.
Noah carefully lowered the bucket into the water beneath the shark's mouth.
"Hiii, Mama..."
Mama watched him, blinking, great mouth opening-
And very carefully released several whole, but terrified, clownfish into the bucket. She made a noise, shaking her head, and moving up the side of the boat. Veli kissed and loved on her, hanging over as far as he could.
"Mmm, Bye Mama." He said, giving her one last kiss on the snout. Mama looked to Noah, then to Veli, made another odd noise, and slid back into the ocean.
Noah patted her tail as she swam off. Hey, her back end was less scary than her front end...and then he remembered the holes in the bucket. s**t. s**t. He ran back and dropped it into its proper space in the floor...and then he aid down to watch the fishy.
"Hiiii~"
Veli giggled, leaning over his back. "Mama did good. Told her about your little finny friends. She said she wanted to get you more finny friends, 'cause you take care of me. She's a good old girl."
Hell, she was better than his own mother.
"Smart shark," Noah said, dipping his hand into the water. Ah, fishies~
"She is. Good girl." Veli leaned over and kissed the back of his neck.
"I'mma take us to shore now." He said, nodding, and stopping on the dock to reclaim his pants. After all, couldn't pull up to civilization naked.
"Kay," Noah nodded. When confronted with a new fishy friend, he as like a kid again.
Humming to himself, feeling great, Veli piloted them towards land. He had a Noah, and Noah had new fishies, and everything was good again.
Once they reached land, Noah put the fishy in a little baggy and got off on the boat, returning his extra three tanks of air. Okay, so maybe I was a little excessive.
"We still have an hour or five to kill before we have to go back."
Veli hummed, light on his feet, wanting to dance and run and do anything now that he felt good. Leaning his head back towards Noah he grinned.
"What do you wanna do?"
"Put this poor fish in a bowl," Noah chuckled, "but after that? Lunch? Sight-seeing?"
"Food sounds good. And we can get you something better than trail mix." Veli nodded. He was hungry. "Find a bowl for the fish, and... Look around a bit. S'changed a lot since I was here last."

Noah nodded, very well waking up. He wrapped his arms around Veli from behind and continued walking with him. Mmm.
Veli grinned up at his man, looking ever so happy. A bowl for the fish was found, and Veli dragged Noah into a little restaurant, some Mom and Pop kinda place.
"Hopefully they got good stuff here." He said, nose twitching.
Noah wriggled his nose as he looked at the menu. Hmph. It was always so hard to find something he considered edible.
"Hope so."
Veli hummed and looked at the menu, shifting in his seat idly. "Whatever you get, I'll have too." He said, nodding. He would try this... Veggie only life. At least once. For Noah.
"Not unless you feel like taking vitamins every morning," Noah said, "I don't mind if you eat meat, so long as y'didn't kill it yerself."
Veli just made a little burble.
"So that's what those pills you take are." Vitamins. Huh! Silly Noah.
"But veggies and stuff are good every now and then."
"Well, yeah," Noah smiled. He was a bad veggie-head, all hating on tofu. This just complicated things further.
"I think salad's the best we'll get to do tonight."
Ew. Salad.
Yes, it was to be sure, that Veli would not be going vegetarian anytime soon. But, he loved his Noah, and would make an attempt to eat less fleshthings.
"Yay, salad!"
Noah chuckled.
"Yeah, sure, like I'm gonna let you suffer with me," he said, nudging Veli under the table with his toe, "Get the iguana. Tell me how it tastes."
"I've had iguana before." Veli mentioned, blinking and looking down at the menu.
"Yeah, well, I haven't," Noah snorted. Mneh. Maybe yo could order seafood dishes...without the...seafood...
"Not missing much." Veli said, nibbling his lower lip. "Hmmmmmm...." He was a creature of the sea, and was called towards the fishy dishes, but wasn't about to start gnawing on something fishy in front of Noah.
Maybe beef would be safe.
Except for the fact that he liked cows too...and rodents, and bugs, and...
Yeah, he was pretty much screwed.
Humming under his breath, Veli finally picked something. It had rice and stuff, with only a little chicken, so hopefully that wouldn't bother his Noah too much.
"Hopefully your new fishy friend will get along with Lizzie and Artie."
"If not, we can get him his own bowl," Noah nodded, closing his menu, "I mean, he's small enough."

"mmhm. I'll have a talk with the kids, though. Tell them to treat the new one right." Veli hummed, reaching over the table to pat Noah's arm.
Noah moved his arm and grabbed Veli's hand, giving it a little squeeze.
"Alright."
Veli squeezed back, grinning. Ah, Noah. He loved you.
"It was good to see Mama again. We had us a nice long chat last night."
"That's good," Noah nodded, finally looking to Veli and smiling, "Did I come up at all?"
"Of course. Silly two legged beast that I smell like." Veli laughed. "Why else do you think Mama brought you a present?"
"So it was good things. Good," Noah smiled and leaned over the table to kiss Veli briefly.
Veli beamed at the kiss. "Oh, yes. Very good things." He said softly. "She might not have understood, 'cause she is a shark, but, yenno. She knows you make me happy and you're good to me. So very good..."
Noah just smiled and kissed the top of Veli's hand. Awww...
Finally food was found and had, and Veli and Noah and Fish were out again, walking in the warm sun. Mmm, Veli liked the warm.
"It's so weird..." He said, looking at the new shops. "Things change so much, and it doesn't even seem like that long ago..."
"Mm...things move fast nowadays," Noah nodded, an arm around Veli's waist.
"They do." A simple statement of the fact. Veli looked at a Starbucks and shook his head. How silly.
"Humans move so fast and change so quickly. It's amazing."
"Not me," Noah smiled, "Things are best nice and slow. Life's too short to rush. ...for us, I mean."
"It is." Veli agreed, mind drifting to other things. He hummed under his breath and leaned against Noah, looking at the development.
"That's one of the reasons I love you so much. You know how to take time and enjoy things."
"Mmhm," Noah smiled, leaning over to kiss the top of Veli's head.
"We still have a good hour before we have to catch our flight. Whaddya wanna do?"
"Mmm. I'm not too particular. There are a few aquariums nearby, or there was, at least. We could walk around in a park, see the local flora. It is pretty here."

A while of sight-seeing later, Noah and Veli were on the plane, the former with his arm around the latter. Noah was smiling softly, completely hiding the thoughts in his head.
Veli hummed to himself, glad that he'd be able to leave this place again. It was easier with his Noah, but he still hated it.
"Thanks for coming with me, Noah."
"It's no problem," Noah said, letting his smile fall as he wriggled into a more comfortable position, his head resting back against the seat.
"Wake me up when we land, alright?"
"Of course." Veli said, kissing his chest.
---
He was as good as his word, and woke him up upon landing. He chattered happily on the way home, going to inform Lizzie and Artie of the new arrival as soon as he got in the door. Happy Veli.
Noah, however, went to the blinking answering machine. He leaned against the wall to listen.
Every message was his foreman, and every one made his heart fall further and further into his gut.
"Hey, Noah, where are you? You left quick today. Is everything alright? Call me back. I'm worried about you."
"Hey, still haven't called. Is everything okay? Noah, call me."
"Missed you again at work today. What the Hell's going on? Call me, Noah. Now."
"James. Call me. Where the ******** are you?"
"Alright, yenno what? Don't bother coming back to work when ever you get back. God, James, I expected better from you."
Noah gritted his teeth and beat the back of his head against the wall. He was fired. No severance pay. No job. No money at home, none in the bank, none in his retirement fund.
...how were they going to eat?
Veli listened too, stopping the playing with the fish.
Oh no. He'd made Noah mess up. But now wasn't the time for apologies. He sighed, knowing what a stubborn man he was with.
"...Let me cover the bills until you get a new job."
He had a feeling that wouldn't fly.
"No," Noah said, shaking his head and standing, beginning to pace the kitchen and gnaw on a thumbnail.
"No, I have enough for that."
"This is my fault." Veli didn't try to approach him. Didn't think Noah would expecially like being coddled. "If I hadn't been such a ********, you wouldn't have had to drop everything to come help me save my a**. I know you won't let me pay you back for the tickets, so just let me help until you get something else."
"No. No, Veli," Noah said sternly, "I can do it. I got it. It's all good." Oh, but it wasn't. It was horrible.
Nose twitching, Veli just watched him.
"No it's not." His eyes told him that. "I ******** things up for you."
"You didn't ******** anything up," Noah said, "but you should probably go back to living at your own place until I get everything sorted out."
Leave him? Oh no... Noah, you couldn't ask your Veli to do such a thing.
"Noah, don't make me leave." He said, looking worried. what if Noah didn't eat while he was away? "I'll cover everything of my own, just don't make me leave..."
Noah ran a hand back over his head and heaved a heavy sigh.
"I don't need any of your money, Veli."
Of course you didn't, Noah. You never needed help, of course not. You were a big, strong, masculine man. And Veli loved that, and he loved you, but he wasn't going to just step aside and let you get hurt if he could help it.
"I know you don't. Just don't make me leave, please. I'll take care of myself."
"Fine," Noah said with a dismissive hand-wave as he headed for the bathroom, "Fine, you take care of yourself." He slammed the door behind him and disappeared.

Veli made a little sad noise, nibbling on his lower lip and moving to sit on the couch. He'd ******** things up for Noah so bad. Words couldn't express just how guilty he felt.
And strange, muffled noises emanated from the bedroom. Oh my...that was...unusual...
...Oh no.
Not caring what Noah cared, Veli tested the door, and when he found it unlocked, he pushed his way in.
Noah was kneeling beside the bed, as if he couldn't quite make it up, and sobbed into his crossed arms on the mattress. Not once had he ever shown this kind of weakness.
Oh, no...
Veli went to him, arms moving around him.
He'd made Noah lose his job. His job that he loved. He said he never wanted to do anything else. But because Noah was a good man, he'd dropped everything to go with him, because he'd been a fool and hadn't done it earlier. His poor Noah.
Nuzzling against him, Veli kissed and loved softly. His poor Noah.
Noah didn't turn to face Veli, but didn't try to pull away either. He just cried, hiding his face, leaning back into Veli. Yeah, he needed this...
And Veli just hugged and loved as best he could. Poor, Poor Noah.
A long while passed before Noah turned, holding Veli to him and kissing his forehead meekly. He wanted Veli to know it wasn't his fault, to know that he wasn't allowed to pay him back...and yet he was too hideously embarrassed to say any of this.
Veli just smiled and kissed and nuzzled. He was easy to read.
"I love you, Noah. More than anything." He said softly. Oh, Noah, if he could make you happy by doing something, he'd do it. Anything at all.
It was nearly a month later when Noah came home from yet another interview to punch the living s**t out of the poor wall.
Well, didn't sound good.
No, it didn't. Veli sighed, not trusting to go in and attempt to love just yet. Poor Noah. Finding jobs was hard.
Nah beat his head twice against the wall and then ulled away, moving to the fridge. He grabbed a beer, popped it open, and stated chugging.
Huh, he usually went fishy-watching...
Ugh. Poor Noah.
Veli sighed, deciding to test the waters with an arm around his middle and a little squeeze.
Noah put his arm over Veli's, a bit roughly, but not meant to remove him.
"Guess what their excuse was today," he said after pulling his lips from the damn bottle and breathing.
"What?" Veli asked quietly, wrapping the other arm around him and loving.

"I'm over-qualified," Noah laughed cynically. Granted, Veli had never seen his resume, but still.
Veli didn't really understand that but okay!
"Oh, No'..." Veli sighed and hugged. "C'mon, have another. Have yourself a good night."
"Nah," Noah said, shaking his head and wiping his lips on his sleeve before tossing the bottle into the sink.
"I'm done fer now."
"Okay." His hands moved up to Noah's shoulders, rubbing.
"If it's okay to ask... How are you overqualified for something. doesn't that just mean you're really good?"
"They...don't want someone too smart...or something," Noah groaned, "'It doesn't take a rocket scientist' they say. Well, it apparently can't."
"....?" Veli blinked, still rubbing his shoulders. "You're a rocket scientist?"
"I could be," Noah sighed, "Rather not be, but I could be. Majored in astrophysics."
"Yeah. Rockets are dangerous." Veli nodded, somewhat surprised that his man had majored in something like that.
Noah shook his head.
"That's now why. I just prefer construction."
Veli nodded, pushing Noah slightly. "Go sit down on the couch. I'll rub out your shoulders."
Noah walked over to the couch and ell with a grunt. He was not so much "tense" and "petrified muscularly", and not so much "knotted" as "lumped beyond repair". Poor man, so much stress...
Veli moved behind him, working his shoulders in his hands. The man had more power than you could expect.
Sighing, he leaned down and kissed the back of Noah's neck. Poor Man.
Noah gave a groan of pain, but hey, it was good pain. Nothing better than a nice strong massage.
"You'll find something." Veli said softly, working his back good. "You're a smart man. A good one." He sighed, kissing the back of his neck again. "I love you, Noah."
Noah just gave an inarticulate "yeah" and grimaced, teeth gritted. Oh, he knew he'd find something. He was just afraid of what it might be.

Veli hummed, working on his back. Ugh, mound of tension. The man needed it to be worked out of him, in more ways than one.
Oh, Noah. Your Veli worried about you.
Slowly but surely, Noah was able to relax. The poor man became like a ragdoll.
Veli hummed moving around the couch and wrapping one arm around him. "If you wanna lay down, I'll go for a full body treatment." He said softly, nuzzling.
"Sounds great..." Noah said, voice slightly husky. He stood and moved to the bedroom, collapsing face-down on the bed. Poor guy.
Veli moved over him, working on his lower back with the same power he had on the upper back.
"Tell me if you want it harder or softer, Noah."
"Ugh," Noah groaned, "As hard as you can, suga'." Frankly, he was almost positive anything less than a steamroller wouldn't be enough.
Veli popped his knuckles and went in hard. It was surprising the force that the little man could make. He was stronger than he looked for sure.
The noises Noah made certainly sounded pained, but they were anything but. He gasped and gripped at the covers, feeling much more relaxed now. Aaaah...
Veli hummed, moving down and hitting his legs as well.
"Anything to make you feel better, Noah."
"I definitely need it," Noah sighed, smiling, "Can y'get my shoulders again?"
"Of course, Noah." Veli sounded delighted, moving back up and working on them. "I can get your chest too."
"Nah, chest is fine," Noah smiled, "It's just my back..." Aaah he was so relaxed now...
Jeanemon 01-27-2008 03:52 AM "All right." Veli hummed, touching and rubbing. "I like doing this for you, Noah."
Noah slowly but surely fell into a dead sleep; no warning or precursor. Surprise nap time!
Veli slowly stopped what he was doing, moving down to kiss the man on the cheek and lay beside him. Ah, sleeping. That was good!

Noah, still dead asleep, rolled over and wrapped an arm around Veli, pulling him close. Awww, unconscious lurve.
Veli hummed and kissed, snuggling against him. Ah, Noah. Relaxed was good.
Noah awakened the next morning, having slept nearly 14 hours. He felt oddly relaxed. Happy.
And there was a happily sleeping fishman in his arms, hair down, and one hand curled up into his hair. Ah, happy sleepy Veli.
Noah smiled and caressed Veli's cheek once before reaching for the bedside phone and dialing for the operator. Oh my, what was that man up to?
Veli smiled at the kiss, hair entrapped hand moving up to his mouth. He nibbled at it, then went back to being asleep.
D'awwwww.
Noah spoke softly to the operator, and the secretary, and the commander, and the recruiter, and the head of staff, and then he hung up.
Alright...for the rest of the morning, he could relax.
"Hnnn?" Veli blinked his eyes open at Noah for a minute, have him a little smile and a wave, and closed his eyes again. "How ya feelin', No'?"
"Much better now," Noah smiled, drawing a finger across Veli's jawline. He leaned in and kissed his neck twice.
"I might have a job."
Ah, and that woke Veli up. "Mmmm? That's good!" He said, tipping his head back at the neck kissies. "What?"
Noah sighed.
"Might have to move t'DC." Well, that was a little vague...
Hey, whatever, as long as the neck kissies continued.
"S'long as I can come with." Veli closed one eye and muffled a yawn. "How's your back?"
"Of course," Noah chuckled, "It's fine. I feel good."
And the fishman hummed, moving to kiss at Noah's chest. "Good." He said, nuzzling and loving. "My Noah was very tense. I'm glad that I put you to sleep."
Noah smiled.
"One of many things you're good at...the massaging, I mean. Not making me sleep."

"I like making you feel good." Veli smiled. "And I was glad to help you out in any way. I love you, Noah."
"I love you too," Noah said softly, nuzzling into Veli's neck and settling there.
Veli hummed, arms wrapping around Noah's head. "Caught you." He said, yawning again. "Now you're mine."
And just imagine how that must have looked, a thin little thing with a blocky head under its arms, and the two huge arms trying to peel those off.
"Oh no!" Noah laughed, "Sleeper hold!"
Badum chhhh~
Veli moved and nibbled at the top of Noah's head. "Mine." He said again, nodding. "My Noah-Noah."
Veli was sometimes silly when he first woke up.
"Nooo!" Noah laughed, "Not my beautiful hair!"
Veli blinked and then giggled, nibbling more.
"Nope. Mine now. Om nom nom."
Noah laughed, fake-fighting and writhing and oh GOD this was such a weird angle to try and pry him off from!
Laughing, Veli let go, beaming and happy because His Noah was in a good mood now.
"Hmmm~" He sighed, giving him a kiss. "It's fun to be silly."
Noah laughed again and gave Veli a little kiss with an excessive "MUAH" sound. Oh, he had such a weird smile.
Veli sighed happily, stroking his cheek. "Mmm... Happy Noah makes for happy Veli." He informed him, curling up against his chest. Mmm, cuddles and loving.
Noah wrapped his enormous arms around the little ball of fishy love and laughed.
"I hafta fax over my resume some time today."
"Hmmmm~" Veli hummed, nuzzling. Mmm, Noah lurve. "Where do they have fax things at?"
"Uh..." Noah shrugged, "Circuit City? Staples? ******** if I know." He laughed slightly.
"I hafta tweak it a little, though. Make m'self sound less like a bum."
"Mmm... You can wow them with your intelligence." Veli nodded, nuzzling. "And you're not a bum. Those live on beaches."

Noah laughed. Hard.
"Oh, suga', there's still some things you gotta learn."
"I wouldn't doubt it." Veli just smiled. Oh, he knew there was a lot he didn't know or understand. But that was fine. He had a Noah, and he was loved, and that was good enough for him.
Noah ignored the signs and leaned against the copying machine, faxing sheet after sheet of information ranging from certifications to the extremely personal. After all, the government wanted to know everything. The only problem he could imagine was that one little tweak felony...but he'd been acquitted of that when they realized it was just reverse discrimination.
Veli looked around. Good Lord, the man was lost.
"Copiers smell funny." He mentioned after a while.
"That's th'toner," Noah nodded, "I actually kinda like it." Out came his forms, and he smiled.
"Alright, we're done here."
"It's not a bad smell. Just different." Veli said, smiling happily when told they were done. "Good! I'm kinda lost in here."
"Me too," Noah snorted, "C'mon. Let's go." And he led Veli out to the street...and noted a nearby ice cream shop.
"Hmmm..."
Veli turned and looked where Noah did, head tipping.
"Hmm?"
"Feel like ice cream?" Noah asked softly, smiling.
"Ice cream...?" Veli blinked again. Huh?
"Don't tell me you've never had ice cream before..." Noah said, eyes wide.
Shaking his head, Veli's eyes were wide. "No. I've never had it. What is it?"
"It's like...cold...hm. Cold cream...kinda..." Noah said, "Oh, ********. You'll like it. C"mon."
"Cold... Cream." Veli raised an eyebrow and watched Noah, but followed him obligingly. "Like... What cats drink?"
"Uh...yeah," Noah nodded, "but...not." He entered the little shop and pointed to the board that mentioned numerous ices, ice creams, soft-serves, and toppings.
"Pick anything you like," he nodded to Veli.

Veli surveyed the board for a few minutes, reading slowly, lips moving.
"I like strawberries." He said after a moment. "And nuts. Pick me out something that has those."
"Alright!" Noah nodded, "We need a strawberry shortcake for the young man, and a banana split for me." The woman behind the counter smiled and blushed.
"Go on an' sit down, Vel. Pick any table."
Veli smiled at the nice lady and found a seat, picking up one of the little menu cards on the table and reading it over slowly. Huh! Ice cream was strange.
Being brought up on such things, they lost their wonder after a while. Noah returned soon enough though, placing a large plate with some sort of cake and ice cream and strawberry nutty goodness on it in front of Veli. Noah took his silver-cupped banana split and smiled.
Raising a brow at the... Thing, Veli picked up a spoon and looked at it.
"Thank you." He said, head tilted to one side. What a strange thing! After a moment, he scooped up some of the ice cream, tongue darting out to lick at it.
"It is cold!" He laughed, licking at it again, then actually taking the bite off of his spoon. He chewed at it and promptly grabbed his jaw.
"Ow...."
"Sensitive teeth? Try to warm it on your tongue first," Noah suggested, not really knowing what the "ow" was for.
"Ish coooold..." Veli said, still holding his jaw and laughing. He scooped up another bite, letting it warm up and laughing more.
"Teesh musht be shenshative."
Noah laughed.
"You'll get used to it in a few minutes."
Aaaah, banana splits were his favorite.
Laughing, Veli ate his ice cream thing, though the more he ate, the more he shivered. Was cold!
"It's good. Sugary and not bad!"
"Welcome to the wonders of fattening human food," Noah snorted, finally on is last bit of split banana. Mmm.
"Most of the fattening stuff makes me sick. Like, I can't have chocolate. Or most fast food, the grease just gets right to me." Veli said, shivering between each bite, but doing it happily. "But this is light and tasty!"
Noah nodded.
"I'm glad. It's my guilty pleasure."
Giggling, Veli held out his spoon with some of the strawberry stuff on it. The poor man was beaming, but shaking bad enough that the ice cream almost slopped off.
"Try some!"
Noah grabbed Veli's hand to try and warm it and, to humor the man, took the ice cream.
"It's good."
"Is!" Veli said, much enthused. The poor man was freezing, but looked delighted in this new discovery.

"Next time, we'll bring a blanket," Noah snorted.
Veli laughed. There was something that kept him even more warm than a blanket, but it probably wouldn't be too smart to have Noah clinging to him all day. Sadly enough.
"Mmm... S'good, so it's okay."
They go home, cuddle, and have cute, gentle sex. D'aaaw. Noah gets a job in washington. oh my!
Ah, and excited Veli was excited! They'd packed up at Noah's house, now it was just left to pack up his place.
"It's kinda messy, 'cause I haven't been around in a while. But, you know. Nothing bad."
"I trust you," Noah nodded as he parked, "I'm just here to help."
"Mmhm!" Veli opened the door to his apartment, humming. What was inside...
Was not what was expected. The place was a little dusty, for sure, but not bad. The walls were nearly covered by paintings, most depicting undersea life, but some did a more urban look. It was sparsely furnished, having no electronics except for what was in the kitchen, and a big couch. No books, no magazines, but there were a few small musical instruments laying about.
"Pleh. Messy."
Noah looked around.
"I had no idea you were so talented."
"Huh?" Veli asked, looking up from packing up a flute.
"The painting and he music and stuff. I mean, even if you don't play...just lookit it all..." Noah said, touching a painted fishy gently.
"I demand you paint me something."
"Of course." Veli smiled. "And I do play. I'm good at music and art, I told you way back." He stood, putting the case on the couch and working on packing up another instrument.
"I mean, it's nothing special, but people really like the paintings. I had one at an auction once, and people kept on babbling about how... Well, arty stuff. I dunno. Siska loves the one I did of her as a mermaid. But she's so full of herself."
Noah smiled and moved over to hug Veli from behind.
"Paint us."
Veli smiled slowly, reaching up one hand to wrap around his head, giving him a kiss.
"Of course." He said softly, beaming. His eyes had a far away look to them. "And water. Fish." He smiled dreamily, sighing.
"There's water where we're going, right?"
"Well, not too far away," Noah nodded, "It'll just be a bit of a drive when you wanna go." And then he moved to go pack.
Veli sighed and touched a painting gingerly. "I should probably arrange to have these sold. Too many to bring with us." He loved his little ocean tidbits, though. "Probably too many instruments, too."
"You have no idea what an escort entails, do you?" Noah chuckled.
"Suga', we get a private jet and a limo to pick us up...we ave all th' room we need."
Veli blinked at him. Clearly he hadn't understood the escort part.
"Oh. Do you like these, then? Should I take them?"

"Take 'em all," Noah smiled, "You won' need t'sell anything. We can make a whole room for them."
So Veli carefully took each painting down, stacking them against one another.
"There are a few more in the bedroom, and some clothes, and... Well, anything else is probably what you've got duplicates of, like towels and kitchen stuff."
"Might as well bring them anyway," Noah shrugged, "For the first week, we're stuck with that we already have. God knows that ain't much."
"Okay." Veli nodded, pushing open the door beside the fridge. Yay, was the den of a Veli! There were more instruments there (Including a drum kit), and the back wall had the largest picture in the apartment.
Three people, one of them obviously a younger Veli (As his hair wasn't nearly as long as it was now.) The second person was an older man with a far away look, the third was an incredibly gorgeous woman that shared Veli's skin tone and seemed to have a protective arm around him. Painting Veli was, of course, too busy watching something off the corner of the painting to notice the protection.
Humming, Veli went to move the picture down. Yay, painting and music~
On the plane, Noah was already lounging in his wonderful seat and drinking an amazing cocktail with an arm around his beautiful Veli.
"I love the government."
His Veli hummed, looking around in interest. What an interesting place!
"This is a pretty big plane." He said after a bit.
"Mmmmmhm," Noah smiled and sighed, "'S wonderful."
"All because you're so smart." Veli grinned. Ah, big sexy brainmeats.
Noah shrugged.
"I'm no smarter than the next guy. Just so happens all smart went into one specific area." And that area was certainly not English.
"Psh, please. You're smarter than me by a long shot, Noah." Veli laughed, smacking his leg lightly.
He leaned against his seat, humming. This was the nicest way to move, ever.
The speaker dinged on, the pilot said something garbled and awful, Noah only able to pick out his own name.
"Must be close."
Veli hummed, looking up at the speaker, then back to his Noah.
"I like moving around. But it'll be nice to have a place to be rooted down to. Like... Can I decorate, and paint the walls and stuff?"
"Of course," Noah smiled, "It's a free pad, so whatever we do to it won't change the price."
Oh, and now Veli looked excited.
"Can I, like, paint one of the rooms any way I want? Like, um, my paintings? Can we have an ocean room?"
"Sure," Noah smiled and looked to Veli, opening his eyes again, "Why not make it the bedroom?"
