Darkrai knight @hypno if you've seen some of the lord of the rings commentary the director made his smith's do welding by hand, and everything had to be done as if it were medieval. very hard to do since they'ed break a sword everytime they shot a diffrent scene. With movies, there are usually a couple different levels when it comes to props and costumes. There are the ones where every aspect of it is made to the most minute detail because the camera will be on it a lot or really up close to it. Then there are the ones where every detail need not be absolutely perfect because it will be in the background and barely noticed by the audience. Lord of the Rings did that, too. It's just that Weta Workshop stepped up the quality of everything by a step all around. The extras' weapons were all still well made, better than extras' weapons on most movies. But they still weren't anywhere near the quality of Anduril or Sting. What really impressed me was Viggo Mortensen's attitude toward the sword he had for the majority of the filming, the Strider Sword. He treated it just as if it was his own sword he was actually using for what it would have been used for in proper period. He took care of it, learned how to use it for more than just the fight choreography, and carried it almost wherever he went while they were filming. An old, outmoded type of weapon it may be, but it is a weapon nonetheless and should always be treated as such. Berz.

I don't remember seeing the movie with audio commentary Darkrai. But I wasn't very interested in it either, he-he. sweatdrop
You know Berz, I had no idea Viggo Mortensen was such a cool method actor. I mean, who knew!? I did know that Japanese samurai have respect for their blades and I even saw a documentary on Masamune. Was that guy one super sword maker or what!? Some people are just plain geniuses. 3nodding

they put it on they're websites 3nodding but anyways, i don't expect if you have to make about a 100 swords everyday that they'ed be the best quality either. and as far as care is concerned yeah he realy did, not many actors go that far when doing a movie. i was most impressed by how they designed the orc armor.

Yeah, the Orc armors were pretty cool. I liked how no two sets of armor were ever quite the same in Mordor. They always had little bits scavenged off of their enemies. There's one in particular in Cirith Ungol that is clearly wearing a beat-up Gondorian cuiasse.

I never really noticed those things but, I suppose it would be cool to make armors for a movie.
BTW, has anyone heard of special kinds of armor? For example, in the game of FFTA, you can get an armor called "Peytral" and, its defense grows the more you play. And by this I don't mean how much time you spend on the game, no; I mean, the armor grows by fulfilling certain conditions and it's not an easy task to do. I don't think I've heard of magical armor that is not in that game though...

if you've ever heard of the legendary black knight, i have heard that his armor changes to meet the weakness's of his opponents weapon. this being totally not something that i've done research on or even the fact that he's more myth then legend. there's really not any magical armor that i know of, but i don't know a whole lot about european folklore, myths, legends, and so forth.

I have not heard many things about it sadly enough. Well, maybe other members have heard of magical armor but if not, there's other things about armor we can chat about. 3nodding

My personal preference on armour is Leather. I like the lighter kinds of armour. I'm more of a nimble dexterous person so I like the lighter armour that lets me keep up that same sort of speed. I don't know any legends of magical armour though sadly.

That's fine, I'm not aware of many legends of magical armor either. I must say that if you prefer light armor, you may like ones like the "Chain Mail", right? I hear those are quite light and provide a lot of protection. Well, up to a point of course cuz, I hear they have some kind of a weakness too.

If plate is adjusted to you, you can move just as fine in it as in non-metal armors. I've seen plenty of people take off running around the field while they fight. Plus, I've seen plenty of leather armor that is just as rigid as steel, like cuir boili. Berz.

Really? That's cool to know.
I wonder though, would a golden armor be just as heavy as say... a Silver made armor? I'm pretty sure that the materials an armor is made of has to have some sort of significance, right?

Personally, I think armor is not only a necessity for fighting the forces of evil, but it also cuts a striking profile! =)
And yeah, medieval/renaissance fighting is pretty awesome. The way they forge plate is particularly interesting to me; I'd love a suit of my own. heart
