Uh.... I hit a guy in the balls on "accident" with my flute one time.

Well. I haven't really hit anyone with my instrument, though I did have a collision with a guy in my sax section. I did hit my friend in the head with my saxaphone case. She was mad at me in the hall way, but we did laugh about it later. I also got hit with a band folder. Me and my other friend in my section were fighting about something stupid and she hit me with the sharp end of her folder.

I accidentally injure my instrument more than I do hurting people or myself with it. x__x
But I have knocked my stand buddy in the head with my flute a fair few times.

I periodically have instrument accidents...

The most frequent are knocking myself in the teeth with my mouthpiece (actually poppped a braces bracket doing that once...) and getting my thumb caught in the marching baritone/trombone betweeb the thumb-grip thingy and the valving (sprained my right thumb extricating myself once...)

Then, there are multi-instrument pile-ups...

In marching band during my rookie year, a friend and I had to do a dippy do-si-do thing. We were practicing on a muddy day (really muddy...) and I cut too close and got stuck in the eye by her flute. She fell, and I tripped over her and fell. I was heading towards landing straight down on the bell of the marching baritone, but I rotaated it and only folded back one side of the bell. I bent it back to its approximate shape, and it's okay (I still use the horn in question by choice). I got a black eye for my troubles. My friend's flute suffered no lasting damage, though one pad had to be replaced because it got soaked in mud...

But the cake on instrument injuries goes to a friend of mne...

She isn't coordinated at all...

During the same marching band season, we were warming up for our home show, doing our basics block on the driveway that runs past the band room. She was carrying a silver marching trombone. There was a stick in the road that a bunch of other people had stepped on, but been fine. Well, she got off track and ran the side of her foot into the curb and lost her balance. She steppped on the stick while trying to reballance, but only ended up falling forwards. Now, her reaction time isn't great...Well, to make a long story short, she was going down with the horn bell down so as to crumple it, but, no...she ROTATED IT right before impact, and landed one its side! SHE FELL WITH ALL OF HER BODY WEIGHT ON THE VALVES AND SMALL TUBING!!!

She got her teeth knocked, a lot of scrapes, and a nice lump on her head. The horn, though the repair shop tried its best, is still f***** up. The valves stick, the second valve tuning slide is forever pinched in place, and the horn still bears the marks from where it struck the pavement...

This is the horn we threaten to give people, now, if they mess around too much...

Oh! In my rookie year in marching band, the baritone section had to jazz run across the field. I was at the end of the line, with the drumline about to run me over. In trying to dodge them, I diidn't realize that I was heading straight for the cymbals, because the girl playing them had overshot. I was short enough that the horn was lower than the bottom edge of the cymbals (they were down), but I hit my head and fell backwards, to the immense ammusement of the drumline, the drumline coordinator, the drill instructor, and the winds (but they only started to laugh after they made sure the horn was alright).

My head was ringing for a while after that collision...

I had a nice big bruise on my forehead and an egg of a lump on the back of my head where I hit it on the ground.

Band is so dangerous!

I have band first hour, and I was really tired one day, so I spaced out during tuning. I didn't notice when it was over and my bd put in a recording of our march. It starts really loud and sudden, so I jumped and stabbed my stand partner in the face with my clarinet.

During marching season, the flag-corp was meshing with our line and a freshman dropped her flag and it hit me in the face.

At this year's memorial day parade, I got placed beside the drumline, and a bass drum whacked me while we were playing the national anthem.

ahhh the memories

Those are pretty funny

In my band, we played Fanfare for the Common Man (you know...by Aaron Copland?...), and it starts off with the percussion pounding on the tympani and bass drum. Well, the band kids at the high school got used to that pretty quickly. However, we are playing it with the marching band kids from the junior high for commencement, so they came over for a rehearsal with us. They were all scared out of their wits by this, but one was particilarly affected; he launched his trumpet into the air, and just barely caught it before it hit the head of the kid next to him...

My marching flute is has a vendetta. It gives me lots of little scratches on my hands when I, um, twirl it. So I suppose it has good reason.

And somebody made me mad so I poked her in the face with it. She bled.

My band director tried to catch a touchdown once. He was okay but he fell on a tuba. It died.

One of my trumpet keys took a small chunk of skin off my pointer finger. One of the valves was refusing to move and my finger happened to slip directly under the key right when the valve decided to start working again. Since the keys have an underside rim with an edge and force was applied to the key, it definitely hurt.

A friend told me that he's managed to give himself over 30 black eyes with his current clarinet, not to mention 20 or so bloody noses and 10+ fat lips.

It hates him...

Bodilla
do small concusions(<= Srry can't spell) count? Because if they do, I've hit both myself and others in the head (not on purpose) with the end of my trombone. You know the tuning end? Well, I sit my bell on my lap and while spacing out or goofin' off I hit either myself or someone else with it.

don't worry, you're not the only one.
i do it on a regular basis with my trombone.
i space out way too much and hit myself on the head.
i once knocked myself out for like two minutes after i forgot to play, brought my trombone up really fast and hit myself with the tuning end.

I somehow always manage to poke my mouth, teeth, another part of my body, or someone else with my clarinet. I've also managed to trip over a ton of instrument cases.

One time I was trying to get off my bus and people wouldn't move out of the aisle out of the way. I was trying really hard to just get off the bus without hurting myself or someone else....and at the very end near the door I managed to smack some kid in the back of the head with my case....he ended up backing to the other end of his seat all the other times I got off the bus in the future...I couldn't figure out why because most of the time I didn't even have my instrument with me. wink
