What are you all talking about in letting things stay 'dead.' Don't you know? Things that really annoy the Doctor have never stayed dead. Daleks have been around sense the first Doctor. For them to remain dead would be..... I don't want to say it. [...]
Believe me when I say, this was going on WELL before RTD.

3nodding In fact the English series did show us 'the end...the final end' of the Daleks in a once and for all way. Trouble is they showed us at least three different 'final ends' of the Daleks and brought them back after each one. smile

People who seem to think that 'Dead means dead' in the old series are very much mistaken. It was more like 'Dead means dead...but only if you're Adric' twisted

lol rofl A guy did a comic on that. Showing what his first reaction was, then his second reaction that took place five seconds after. "Oh my ---. They killed Adric........ Finally."
I would assume that this means that he was not a popular character.
Ack, I am waiting for it to come onto sci-fi. Doesn't mean that I can't look at the spoilers. It gives me the chance to watch my mom's reaction.
I've been told by a person that's been a fan of Dr. Who for a long time that "Dalek" was the best Dalek episode ever made.

The 'monsters' were ugly and I hate Catherine Tate.

That's all I can say about this episode.

I would assume that this means that he was not a popular character.

That's fair to say.

Myself I think that, even given Mathew Waterhouse's somewhat limited acting skills, Adric worked great in season 18 - really bringing out the Tutor/Mentor/'wise old man' Merlin-ish side of Tom Baker (who very much looked the part by then). I can't think of a companion who'd have been more suitable for Keeper of Traken or Logopolis.

But once we're into Season 19, the character just doesn't work so well. With a crowded TARDIS in which Tegan's constantly moaning about something or another, a smug and socially inept adolescent is one irritation too many, especially since his youth is rather redundant with Davison as the Doctor.

Also...audiences often take thier lead from the characters. Both Tegan and even sweet and deferential Nyssa made it clear on different occasions that they didn't like him much and what the Fifth Doctor thought of him was highly ambiguous.

Adric's a great idea on paper though, it's just the casting and the dynamics of the Season 19 TARDIS crew that meant he didn't work. If he had of done, I imagine he'd have been something like the (wonderfully played and very engaging) Luke from SJA.

I've been told by a person that's been a fan of Dr. Who for a long time that "Dalek" was the best Dalek episode ever made.

I wouldn't necessarily agree (Rememberance and Genesis for me), but I'd nod my head sagely and say, "Yeah, I can see that."

Most of the good Dalek storys succeed because they manage to work around or avoid the problems inherrant in telling a Dalek story. Dalek works because it solves those problems.

I have to say that I rather liked the episode, it was entertaining. I thought the silent conversation bit was classic, and probably will end up on a highlight reel of Tennant's Doctor Who career someday.

Somebody mentioned that they liked how an alien race wasn't wiped out for once, I have to agree. I was also surprised that the Nanny wasn't trying to take over the Earth, just trying to breed new aliens using body fat. (O_o)

It was an interesting story that was creative in it's writing.

3nodding It's one for the ages.
Like everyone alive in the mid-seventies somehow manages to remember the giant maggots in The Green Death, everyone from the current audience is always going to remember the miming scene.

Unless, of course, there's something similarly brilliant in every episode this season. There might well be.

I like Catherine Tate. I think I were sick of the character like Martha and Rose because they were falling in love with Doctor. I like Rose and Martha. But I think Donna will bring a whole new meaning of why I like the show Doctor Who.

Donna is Donna. Even though she has a bit Rarrr attitude smile

This episode is nice. I like this one. It feels with hopes and it was like an adventure rather than bitter start like what Martha & Doctor has started in last season (one trip, uh I am not sure).

Hairy Priest
No need to white out the spoilers if they're just from this episode.

Haven't seen it yet, but I'm surprised to hear they're already teasing us about the return of Rose right in the season premiere. The fact that she's coming back is no big secret anymore, of course, but I bet most people weren't expecting a glimpse so soon.

Anyway, is Donna still as ditzy as she seemed in The Runaway Bride, or did they tone that down now that she's a proper companion?

ROSE DID RETURN YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I accually knew that rose was in it because I saw an article about her returning to DW in the forth season. PS By the time I finished watching it I forgot about that. I was Screaming.... OMFG!!!!!!!! ITS ROSE!!! How do u think she got from pete's world to our world??

And the thing is, it's actually an effective way of reducing body fat (as the Doctor muses at the end), and wouldn't have killed anyone if Miss Foster didn't use the 'consume non-fat substances as an emergency food source' signal. So there could have been a neat little human-Adipose symbiotic relationship established, had Foster decided to go that route.

Still would have been illegal, of course, because of the Shadow Proclamation. Plus, I don't think many people would have been cool with the idea of white marshmallow aliens popping out of their bodies.

Not sure, but Voyage of the Damned goes out on April 18 here. If they're showing an episode per week starting from then, I guess Partners in Crime would air on the 25th.

I wanna see that trivia quiz, darn it!
