Stresshog There's a couple really good (and free) Doctor Who text adventure games out there on the internet. Yes but a fully made budgeted 3D action adventure game would be better. Playing as UNIT soldiers throughout Doctor Who. Starting in the late 60s, battling Yetis and Cybermen, then the 70s, shooting Autons, Sea Devils, Silurians, Daleks, blobs, Zygons, etc. Then the 80s battling... Knights with firework guns? then present day, with some new series monsters... and the future? OR A "Time Agent", like Cpt Jack, but working for the time agency gong on missions with your space-hopper and energy weapons? OR A Dalek during the Dalek Empire, going on missions to take over planets? Stuff like that can't be done easily with just text...

Infact, a text adventure sounds perfect for all that. You can spend god knows how much time and money developing a 3D action adventure that will likely take under 10 hours to finish or you can spend no money and comparatively little time to make an infinitely extendable text adventure that will actually challenge and immerse the player while allowing any number of settings and whatever content you can think of. The 3D game will probably require a team of programmers and artists(if you want it out within five years), whereas the text adventure can be done entirely by a single person using an astoundingly simple programming language that takes about a day to learn. Plus, I feel text is more appropriate for a Doctor Who game. The player would have to defeat his opponents with his wits, rather than his trigger finger. I enjoy FPSs and danmaku shmups as much as the next geek, but somehow they just don't go very well with Doctor Who, y'know?

Horntastic ...any chance for some links to these aforementioned text games? biggrin http://www.colonization.biz/dr_who/index.htmYou should probably pick up an interpreter from here, since the one you can get from the first link is probably outdated by now.

But I do think that kind of game will go well with Dr Who, with all the action in it (Especially the old series). _________________________________________________________________________________

I think I know enough old C++ to make a simple text-based consul game, I'd just never know what to do with it...
Thanks so much for the links, by the way. <3 -goes to check out-

Ugh, I never liked text-based games. I always hate having to visualise the room (this coming from someone who does like visualising things). And then if you get lose! eek Ugh...
Sometimes it does rely on the Doctor's timing to escape you know. Like with Ms Foster and the whole wire thing smile

Ceribri knightofthe21stcentury tennantsbutterfly Actually, it's already happened. I read that there was a DW game coming out for PC, PS and Xbox (although I might be wrong about the platforms... I just saw it on the front of a games magazine a couple of months ago.) I heard that was a crappy card game. It will be, and unfortunately I'll probably never get to see it. (being in the US)
i saw the card game dr who pc game thing at one of the shops near me it cost $40+ and i live in australia

Quote: i saw the card game dr who pc game thing at one of the shops near me it cost $40+ and i live in australia Yeah, I've seen that game too. It's just top trumps. I haven't actually played it but I think it would be pretty boring. Everyone in this forum has given great ideas and I totally agree with you. There should be a proper Doctor Who, action filled virtual game with the real monsters and aliens. I have an idea. There should be a game for every series and each episode should be a level. Then the last level can be a battle against the worst alien the Doctor encountered in the series. I'd love to the see the fourth series game and a battle against Davros at the the end. That would be pretty cool. I've noticed people disagreeing about who the person playing the game should play as. It should change throughout the game so the person plays the character who's the most important at the time and does the most stuff, like the harry potter pc games do. Like in series four - The Poison Sky, you could play as the doctor for most of it, and then there's the bit where Donna's trapped in the tardis when the sontarans capture it and she has to go out of the tardis to get teleported back to where the doctor is. and you would probably play as martha for some of it too. and in Turn Left Donna's obviously the most important character in that so you would play as Donna for that level. I reckon that would be pretty cool and would work out. now all we need is someone who can design games and most importantly, someone who can design games who would be willing to make a doctor who one. it should be on the consoles like ds, pc, ps3, xbox 360 etc. that would be really cool and fun if that could happen one day.

Like with most video games that are based on movies, they have the same general plot as the movie but the actual missions and various things you have to achieve are different to the movies.
