I have always been wanting to get a dress from some of my favorite sites. But of course, my mother has been against. She believes it's only for children and I would be childish for wearing dresses like that. As for dad, it doesn't bother him. As long as I like it, I can dress any way I want. Just as long as I don't go too far by going goth or slutty on him.

At first they were hesitant about it, because of the book and everything. But then my mom warmed up to it and decided she really liked it, and offered to help me sew!

My folks are fine with it, though when I paraded out of my room today in full lolita attire (I wasn't wearing classic lolita, like I usually do), they were a little speechless. "You look like a little girl," was what my mom said. After the initial shock, though, they thought it was cute.

I'm a very modest person and what I love about lolita is the modesty in the clothing.

My parents (or at least my mum) have changed their attitude toward my lolita-ness as of late. Before, when I was very aristocrat/gothic lolita, my mum didn't like it much, she didn't want to be seen with me out of the house. Both of them thought it was a phase that'd pass within a few months or so, but now that it's going on two years, and I'm more classic-with-sweet-leanings, and my mum's seen how much lolita has affected my lifestyle and the way I take care of myself, she's become a lot more supportive.
Edit:
My one grandma doesn't like it if I show her the magazines or label it 'lolita'. Not because of the book, but because it's an alternative and I quote "I'm not helping you sew any of that freaky s**t!". However, when we go fabric shopping and I point out a blouse pattern, she'll be 'oh, so cute!' and when I point out some knee-lenght a-line skirt patterns thinking that a petticoat could give them the right shape, she'll look at it and go 'well, they're nice, but we should cut it more bell-shaped...' at which point I'm repressing snickers because she's 'helping me sew that freaky s**t' without even knowing it.
My other grandmother though, didn't know anything about lolita until this week. I don't see my other grandparents very often, so I decided to call them up and ask if they'd mind my visiting. To which they were pleasantly surprised, and came to get me. But I went up in a casual classic dress and I brought the parasol I'm currently sewing a lace-trim onto, and my english GLBs. My grandma was looking through them while I was sewing, and actually liked it. She was asking questions about how the movement started, and how big the culture was in Japan compared to here. She also seemed happy that I was into old-fashioned things, and tea, and that it was a fashion based on modesty. So I was really pleased that someone in the family was really sincerely glad for my interest in lolita. 3nodding

My dad actually really likes the fashion. Whenever we go fabric shopping, he will pick out a really cute fabric and follow me around going "I like this one." "Hey, hey, I really like this one." "You should get this one." XD I love moments like that. He is also the one who takes me to meetups and helps me decide on what I should sew. My mom also doesn't mind it and is going to let me go to Homecoming in it. She doesn't like most of the shoes and most of the headdresses, but normally I only wear small bows anyways so its fine with me.

I introduced my mom to it about a year and a half ago, showing her pictures online and reading things about it from websites. She actually liked it, and because at that time I was more of a Tripp brand gothic chick, well, anything was better in her mind. However, I dress up rather often, and she is like, "Can't you look like a normal girl for once?" Or else she points out when I dress up a bit too much, which I am thankful for most the time. However, she has accepted my gothic lolita ^^ My dad, on the other hand... is a major drunk, and he has complemented it once or twice, but I highly doubt he even knows what it is. My grandma once saw me in my black blouse with a poofy red plaid skirt on in lolita, and she thought it was cute and really liked it 3nodding

My parents, actually have no problem when it comes to me dressing up in Lolita. When I first showed my mom a couple of dresses, she thought they were really cute. But, on the other hand, my parents thought that the dress I wanted was a bit too expensive. Along with the fact that I was thinking of buying a mini top hat and a choker, but they were a bit over what I was expecting to pay for. sweatdrop Long story short, there`s some pros and cons with my parents when it comes to Lolita dresses.

My mother does not like it at all -.-~ She wont even let me get a dress. She believes it to be 'seductive' and I've tried so many times to convince her, no use.
Can anyone help me^^""
