Nightwish - Whoever Brings the Night
This song is about prostitutes and the sailors that use them from my guess. However, Annette sings it in a very vampiric way in my opinion. So, I'm also inclined to draw other conclusions about it as well.
For example, I imagine my lovely young flamboyant pirate being seduced by a couple of raunchy female vampires. Let's face it, most female vampires act like sluts judging by the favourite perception of them in modern society.
The music also has a vampiric element to it. Nightwish have a talent for bringing out the darker side of the fantasy genre!
Another thing I imagined somehow was a group of female vampires lusting after one powerful male. Of course it's not the theme of the song, but it has that feel to me as well. Perhaps the title gave me that perception initially? "Whoever Brings the Night" has a very vampiric connotation and lyrics that fit in with both of my perceptions.
There are some lyrics that seem to fit...
The chorus
"All you love is a lie You one-night butterfly Hurt me, be the one Whoever brings the night"
Suggests that vampires can be good liars, it only takes one night to turn someone or for a vampire to get what or who he/she wants, they can be sado-masochists, the most powerful ones bringing a dangerous aspect of life to the night where vampires dwell.
And verses/lines
"The Dark, created to hide the innocent white, the lust of night Eyes so bright, seductive lies Crimson masquerade where I merely played my part Poison dart of desire"
Darkness being the opposite of light, vampires evidently desire the night, the blood hue in their eyes, they're seductive, they're dramatic - sometimes on a theatrical level where a victim, usually female, will have the lead female part despite theatre being a simple reference, a vampire's fangs being like poison darts (fits within both ideas of turning) and the desire part suggests the legend of a vampire's bite being ecstacy.
"Choose a bride tonight A fantasy for a zombie Hurt me, I love to suffer Your harem's a dream for free"
There's the popular thought of male vampires always choosing new brides when the one(s) they've had get boring or too old (if they remained human), a fantasy for those who can't have such pleasures, and there's the sado masochism again, and here's the definition what a harem is... Harem.
"Enter Suck from us and live forver Rotten beauty Will haunt you for a lifetime"
The first bit I don't need to explain, rotten beauty suggests that vampires - in the long run - are evil and wicked but are nevertheless beautiful creatures (in most cases), and they will haunt their human victims.
"Come with me underwater And drown to despise me no more Unholy, unworthy My night is a dream for free"
The first two lines here may suggest a vampire's vulnerability to water perhaps? In some cases water doesn't burn them but drags them under as if unable to swim? In my world only holy water harms them. Anyway, unholy (yes), unworthy (of a paradise after death? Yes), and the last line suggests a victim's desire to live forever.
I don't know what you think, but the whole post is what imagery I get from that particular song. What do you guys think?

The soundtrack for the new Prince Caspian movie is really nice and brings up lots of imagery. The first song that is in the closing credits is fantastic. It reminds me of the way the last session of my longest-running D&D campaign ended.

I've not played D&D, but a few have tried to coax me into it. I'm not convinced that the rules system isn't as restrictive as it looks to be, and I like to see an event occurring at the same speed it would in real life in my mind. I can't sit there for a couple of minutes working out what's happening, what my character is doing and whether or not he/she pulls off the stunt.
Anyway, if the D&D thread still exists, this will continue there. sweatdrop I digress.
Is it possible to discuss what we see in different songs and comment on what we see in them such as this one from Nightwish? Of course, if you don't listen to a particular band then you're under no obligation to talk about it. Just find your own songs and post your analysis of them (that's directed at everyone).
EDIT:
Here's another song to take a look at...
Snow of the Sahara
Only tell me that you still want me here When you wander off out there To those hills of dust and hard winds that blow In that dry white ocean alone Lose out in the desert Ou are lost out in the desert
But to stand with you in a ring of fire Ill forget the days gone by Ill protect your body and guard your soul From mirages in your sight
Lost out in the desert You are lost out in the desert
If your hopes scatter like the dust across your track Ill be the moon that shines on your path The sun may blind our eyes, Ill pray the skies above For snow to fall on the sahara
Just a wish and I will cover your shoulders With veils of silk and gold When the shadows come and darken your heart Leaving you with regrets so cold
Lost out in the desert You are lost out in the desert
If your hopes scatter like the dust across your track Ill be the moon that shines on your path The sun may blind our eyes, Ill pray the skies above For snow to fall on the sahara
If thats the only place where you can leave your doubts Ill hold you up and be your way out And if we burn away, Ill pray the skies above For snow to fall on the sahara
There's a video on YouTube - Anggun - Snow on the Sahara
The song is actually called Snow of the Sahara on the album information I have, but it's the same song. I think it's a beautiful song to be honest and I get a lot of inspiration from it. Anggun sung it with Enigma.

DM_Melkhar I've not played D&D, but a few have tried to coax me into it. I'm not convinced that the rules system isn't as restrictive as it looks to be, and I like to see an event occurring at the same speed it would in real life in my mind. I can't sit there for a couple of minutes working out what's happening, what my character is doing and whether or not he/she pulls off the stunt. I kinda meant purely story-wise and with the imagery the song conjured which has nothing at all to do with the rules set, but... yeah... The story line for my group is so good I've assembled three, yes, three soundtracks for it. And I'm working on the fourth, now. Anyway, here's the lyrics from the song I was talking about. the lyrics from The Call It started out as a feeling Which then grew into a hope Which then turned into a quiet thought Which then turned into a quiet word And then that word grew louder and louder 'Till it was a battle cry "I'll come back When you call me No need to say goodbye." Just because everything's changing Doesn't mean that it's n'ere Been this way before All you can do's try to know who your friends are As you head off to the war Pick a star on the dark horizon Follow the light You'll come back When it's over No need to say goodbye. You'll come back When it's over No need to say goodbye. Now we're back to the beginning It's just a feeling that No one knows yet But just because they can feel it too Doesn't mean that You have to forget Let's your memories grow stronger and stronger 'Till they're before you're eyes You'll come back When they call you No need to say goodbye. You'll come back When they call you No need to say goodbye. Basically, the scene was more or less of the same theme as the scene the song was used for in Prince Caspian; friends parting with the understanding that they'll be getting back together again, in some form, sometime in the future and in the meantime they have wonderful memories of their friendship. I just put the song on the playlist in my profile. If you want to listen to it, it'll be at the very bottom. Berz.

hypnocrown Anggun? This is the first I hear of them... Anggun is the name of the woman singing. The song and music is by Enigma. I gather she's just the one who sings the song. Unless she's actually a part of Enigma.
I'll take a listen of that song soon Berz.

I like listening to music when I'm thinking, but some music just ends up getting me depressed if I'm in the right mood.
for example, when I'm extremely angry...
The Fray- Over My Head(Cable Car)
I never knew I never knew that everything was falling through That everyone I knew was waiting on a cue To turn and run when all I needed was the truth But that's how it's got to be It's coming down to nothing more than apathy I'd rather run the other way than stay and see The smoke and who's still standing when it clears
Everyone knows I'm in Over my head...

I don't know if she's in the group. Anggun might be someone they did that song with because on the YouTube video it says Anggun and Enigma.

Here's a reference from the Merfolk thread. Blackmore's Night - Loreley.
It's Ritchie Blackmore from the old rock band Rainbow, and either a friend, family member or wife whose name is Candice Night. So I guess that's how they got their name.
This song is about a Siren-like woman/creature called a Loreley/Lorelei. The music, however, makes me think of a folk dance in a village/town square during some kind of festival (which is why I'll be using song for a particular scene I'm plotting).

That's been one of my favorite Blackmore's Night songs for a while. 3nodding
I just found it on projectplaylist (it wasn't there the first time I searched, apparently) and put it on the playlist in my profile, for anyone who wants to hear it. Also another one of my favorites, All For One; a good song for any adventurous group of heroes, be they dungeon-delvers or a grand army.

It's quite a fun song if not a bit repetitive, but then again you can imagine a bunch of drunken adventurers in a tavern either in a town before they set off or in the middle of a quest in a quaint little village.

I've just dug up some music I'd forgotten about. However, it's going to be a problem getting it to any of you. You see, the company that made these CDs aren't widely known. I picked up two of them before the little mystical shop I bought them from disappeared, and I can't find them on the internet anywhere. I've looked on playlist.com, youtube, Amazon and the likes and they're just not there. You might be able to find pictures of the CD covers if you're lucky, but it's not likely you'll get anything else.
So, if you want to hear some of this music, you're going to have to get it off me somehow. It's going to involve MSN, AIM or YIM.
