Part I – The Sentinel
Player: Patmos of Endtimes Name: Ambrosia Nicknames: Sia Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Young Adult Hatch Date: October 28 Type: Ghost Task: Watcher -> Gatherer Personality: Ambrosia is known best for her stoic nature. She's grumpy most of the time, and reacts well to change or surprises, but doesn't really seem to have much to say about it. Not the most talkative of Sentinels, she's cool under pressure, diving into situation with no declaration of her intentions. However, just because she seems thoughtful doesn't mean she is wise. She's a risk-taker, determined to prove herself and often accused of lacking common sense. In everyday life, she is subject to playful harassment. More outgoing folk and youngsters take it as a challenge to ruffle her feathers, and often times her serious attempts at 'fun' leave her uncomprehending to the resulting laughter. This does not mean she gives up, despite her feelings of frustration. Her hobby is what she terms 'fun-learning'; fledglings hardly mind when she offers a game of chase, and she can sometimes be found sitting above a strategy game curiously, trying to decipher moves. She attends every bard performance she can, and will flutter close to gossip circles, lurking for 'fun-information'. Ambrosia's goal in life is to finally understand fun, games, laughter, and humor. She hopes that by doing so she will eventually attract a mate and raise a few chicks in a proper environment.
History: Years ago, two rather unique rangers found each other and became mated. Though the circumstances for their mysterious disdain of social interaction remains yet unknown to even Ambrosia herself, these two were as loving to each other as could be. Choosing a lonely and remote territory, they soon became the proud parents of a clutch of two. After some serious debate, they decided to wait on calling for Minders to see how well they did on their own. For a short time after hatching, all seemed to be going well with the tiny family, but as the hatchlings grew, and demanded more attention, the two rangers came to think that maybe help wouldn't be such a bad idea. But their plan to find one never reached fruition. An unfortunate accident in the midst of a storm claimed one chick, leaving Ambrosia the sole hatchling. Regretful of the loss of one child, the rangers threw themselves into the raising of their remaining chick. All was well for quite some time, and Ambrosia never minded the hiding from the rare Sentinel or the lack of peers. She loved her parents and thought that so long as she had them, she would be content. Sometimes they went off on their own for a little once she was old enough to go unmonitored, but they always returned to her, usually with a treat. But one day they didn't. Ambrosia never found out what happened to them; it was a mystery and one she had to accept after a couple weeks. At a loss for what to do with herself, she continued on, hunting and watching over her territory, her parents' disappearance still fresh in her heart. In Sentinel society though, her parents' Corporal noticed the lack of reports coming from that far-flung territory and sent someone to investigate. Thus Ambrosia was finally discovered, but by that point she was glad of it. It was lonely all on her own, even if it had been hardly more than a scant dozen notches in her tree. However awkward and lacking of education she was, her rescuers were determined to adjust her to proper society, and thus began Ambrosia's adventures.
Territory: As far west as she can get, and she prefers groves of birches. (Please help me place this correctly) Mate: None yet Companions: None yet Certificate: None yetQuote: That does look very good. Hmmm... I can't think of anything else to say now. I think it's time you post her in the submission thread, and see if something comes up when we get a fresh new perspective on her. Good job!

Part I – The Sentinel
Player: Ryugen Name:Brackenburr Nicknames: Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Adult Hatch Date: Type: Wildtype Task:Watcher
Personality: Although by no means unlikely or unwilling to enjoy a 'good meal', be it Mus or otherwise, Brackenburr is a comparatively gentle soul, although it's not impossible to get his metaphorical (and literal) feathers ruffled, it takes a considerable amount of ruffling before he resorts to violence. He's an astute and curious soul, and in spite of his laid back demeanor which can occasionaly mislead people into thinking he's a Watcher entirely due to lack of motivation, he loves to learn anything he can, and save it for later.
History: One of a small clutch, of only two eggs, Brackenburr was notable largely for being... not particularly notable, if maybe a little annoying, given his tendency to edge up and stare at what people happened to be doing, though large in part, he managed to avoid any particularly memorable sort of trouble, save for the typical fumble and fall while trying to get the hang of flight, and he remained noted for being sort of unimpressive until it finally came to light that he wasn't half bad at remembering a fair amount of the things he'd been staring at. The location where he had last seen a fair number of Mus, the shape and color of that odd bit of lichen or so, and where you might have put down that item you'd swore you left -right there-. Although not nearly to the near legendary status of Munin's eidetic memory, his keen eye for things does serve him well in his task.
Territory: A moderately large oak with a hollow once dug out by some other woodland critter, most likely a woodpecker, before Bracken decided to move in. Mate: none Companions: none at this time, so did not fill out Pt 2 Certificate:
((this is gotta be a wreck, C_C So any help would be appreciated.)) Quote: Looking a lot better! Now just change the "an"s in the territory part and I think you're pretty much free of typos.
However, on the subject of territory... I hope that by "hollow once dug out by some other woodland critter" you aren't thinking of having him live close to the ground? Because that would be way too dangerous to be really sane. Quote: No I was thinking more like a woodpecker or something, I just wasn't very specific because he might also not particularly be interested in what used to live thee once upon a time, as long as it doesn't show up to charge rent. I did actually read that part. wink Quote: That would have to be one huge woodpecker... Sentinels are much bigger than owls so they wouldn't fit in woodpecker-holes. Perhaps you don't have to write about who or what dug out that hollow? Something like: "A moderately large oak with a hollow that was created long before Bracken decided to move in. " Also: You should always use the picture on the noctua.ca server for character forms. I might as well point it out now...

This is a concept I’ve been joking about with Gift that turned into a character I might really like to RP someday. I’m not quite ready for a new charge yet, hence not creating him as an RP-only Sentinel (can’t anyway since he’s an Aberrant), but I’d like to know what you think. heart
Part I – The Sentinel
Player: Lumenne Name: Lucanus Nicknames: Any variation of his full name. Also, some “colorful metaphors” from those with a lesser sense of humor. Species: Sentinel of Noctua Age: Adult Hatch Date: ??? Type: Aberrant (I’m hoping for mixed Shadow/Deep Woods or Shadow/Mist, but will love any type I can get!) Task: Bard
Personality: Very sociable. Very, very sociable. He tends to like pretty much everyone, except for the extraordinarily rude or intolerant. The only problem with this trait is that sometimes it’s hard to tell his opinion of others because he’s the kind of bird that insults everyone he likes. A good rule of thumb is that if he starts being inexplicably nice to a fellow Sentinel, chances are that while he’s gushing love and peace, he’s actually mentally boiling that one in a vat of tar. His niceness also tends to be as patronizing as possible, so prideful Sentinels beware! The only real exception to his regular crude behavior is the young and impressionable, to whom he will go out of his way to be genuinely kind. Even the most sensitive of adults, however, are still fair prey to his type of humor.
History: The product of a mixed-type fling, Lucanus is no stranger to prejudice. As a fledgling, he dealt with a lot of personal attacks from his peers and adults alike, no matter how hard his mother tried to protect him. His mother, a successful bard, knew the value of laughing at one’s self, and she also knew the value of quick wit and a fast mouth. She taught Luca to defend himself with the roughest sort of humor, the sort that would often leave other fledglings bewildered in the aftermath of Luca’s scathing comebacks.
Despite his difficult upbringing, with his mother’s help and his own positive attitude, the Aberrant grew up to be a jovial adult. His abusive tongue carried over from his youth and has continued unchecked, but those who’ve befriended him know that it’s become a language of love… and an art form. He’s taken on his mother’s bardic legacy, hoping to make others laugh at themselves. Of course, that doesn’t mean he’s a saint. In fact, he’s not above making unfunny stabs at known bigots in the audience. He also enjoys singing disrespectful (and sometimes raunchy) songs that the younger crowd might be amused by, but would send the older sect into an outrage. All in all, it takes a very patient or a very (very) liberal Sentinel to get along with this one.
Territory: Luca has claimed three small trees in the southern part of the Deep Woods. In several places, these trees’ branches are so intertwined that they form shelters, which Lucanus uses for sleep, storage, and, on occasion, guests. This territory was won in a fight – stolen from a pompous Deep Woods male who booed him at one of his earliest performances.
Mate: N/A Companions: No, because if he had any, they would be so annoying that no Sentinel could resist eating them. Certificate: N/AQuote: It is a neat concept that could be fun to play. As you said yourself, if he tends to like everyone and insults everyone that he likes, then there is much room for conflict, which is always fun. The part of him being inexplicably nice to those that he really hates and gushing love and peace over them indicates that he either doesn't like or can't handle conflicts (nobody can tell they're being boiled in tar if you're only doing it in your own mind, which is why it's a nice and safe way of hating someone: No risk for repercussions), and I'm not sure how well that rhymes with his otherwise rather conflict-seeking behaviour. Singing raunchy songs, taking unfunny stabs at audience members and even going as far as taking the territory of a guy that booed at him, all seems to me to be acts done by a man who'd rather sharpen his barbs than hide them, if you know what I mean. Unless you meant that he is noticeably sarcastic or ironic with his lovey-dovey behaviour. That would make a bit more sense in the context. But you didn't state that, so I wasn't sure.
That's what I've got. If you want to hear if Annchen's got any thoughts, you'll have to wait a while longer, seeing that she has very limited 'net acess atm. Hey Blue, thanks for the feedback! Hmm... I guess italicizing the word "nice" wasn't enough to indicate the irony. XD Actually, more than anything else, I picture Luca being rather patronizing when he pretends to be nice. I'll add a bit and make it clearer... done! Quote: That looks a lot clearer than your first version. It seems like a really fun character to play, especially around more sensitive Sentinels twisted How did you come up with his name?
I was thinking... Are you more fond of his back story or the fact that he is an aberrant? If the aberrant population gets too big mixed aberrant might get restricted to breeding only. In that case you might get an egg from a breeding that would not suit the history you have created, so be prepared for that.
If you like the back story but the aberrant type is not that important you could probably tweak his history a bit for it to fit a Sentinel of another type too. This could be the second fling breeding his mother was involved in (The horror! What a tramp!) and some Sentinels might take their disgust out on her offspring. This would create a similar upbringing and you could keep the bullying in his past and his strong mother. Oohh, nice idea Ann! Yes, it's his story that I'm in love with, and I am more than willing to tweak and/or wait for a breeding if needs be. biggrin His name comes from the genus for stag beetles. They have big, obnoxious mandibles, kinda like Luca's big, obnoxious beak. It came up while I was searching like mad for a nature name that I could shorten to "Luke." There was no reason that I could fathom for it, but I REALLY wanted a character named Luke. So once I finally found a name that worked, I wrote his RP form calling him Luca. Go figure.
