~Skai Lustbader~

Skai raised her hand, tentatively.

"There is power and running water here, isn't there?" she asked cautiously, not looking forward to the answer.

~Marzipan Yui~

Miss Yui seemed to hesitate before answering this time. "The plumbing should be working correctly, as far as I know. I understand that most houses in this region get their water from wells instead of the usual utility companies. As for electric power, I'm afraid you're on your own. No one has paid the electric bills in at least fifty years. There is supposed to be a generator somewhere in the basement, but the basement is locked."

~Christian Lustbader~

On mention of sharing rooms, Christian immediately looks to her sister. They'd be sharing a room, no question about it. Eh. It's not ideal, but it could make things easier. Either way, it'll work itself out soon enough. She drifts over towards Katie, curious about the contents of the bag, but when Miss Yui mentions the utilities, she gets the redhead's full attention.

"No electricity? ... Does that mean no hot water?"

The idea of a shower has just become more frightening than any demon.

"No electricity means no water heating, as far as I know. Sorry."

The prospect of no heating didn't really bother Si, but she could see the tang of pain stretch through some of the other girls. Therefore, when Marzipan mentioned that a generator might be in the basement, she was already thinking of ways that she could get in. She had many differnt sized sewing and knitting needles with her, it shouldn't be much of a problem to break into an old lock. A smirk crept across her face as ideas and scheme formed in her head. Si never really had been one to just sit around and do nothing.

She sighed and flipped a few strands of hair from her face. When she was unsuccsessful with this, she pushed thestrads behind her ear with her hand. She knew they wouldn't stay there for long; her hair was untameable, very similar to her.

She still wanted to know what was in the bag.

Judging from the way it hangs, it's obvious that there is at least one heavy object in the bag, and probably others of indeterminate weight. Because of the heavy canvas the bag is made of, it would be very hard to determine what they are without actually looking inside.

~Katie Holbrooke~

"We'll open it when we're inside and everyone can pay attention," Katie responded to the command and touch with an easy smile, hefting the bag a bit defensively, but not possessively.

"Um, sorry Ms. Yui, you were saying? Is there a key into the basement, or was that lost with the old owners as well?"

~Skai Lustbader~

Skai looked at Katie with a wry smile and raised an eyebrow. "Perhaps the key is in the bag?" she said, with a teasing lilt in her voice, "But I suppose we will find that out when we're inside, won't we?"

"I'm not sure if it's the wisest idea for any of us t o mess around with a fifty year-old generator. Even if the generator works properly, and it has gas, the wiring in this house is still at least fifty years old. If there is a working pump, that's a start, but we should probably be very careful about water usage, too. The plumbing is probably not too reliable."

Skai cast a peculiar sideways look at Christian - peculiar to everyone else, but quite familiar to the two sisters. With a half-smile and a slight kink of the eyebrow, she sent Christian a message using techniques the two had honed when they were younger, and running confidence scams with their parents.

~Marzipan Yui~

"The key? I couldn't tell you where it's gone. I see no reason why the door wouldn't have a key, and for that matter, I imagine it wouldn't have left the house. Still, you would have to search for it."

~Sukari Endshaw~

Suki seems to be ignoring the entire conversation, though she caught every word. She can't think of other things which weren't addressed, and seemed inifferent about the no water heating either. She also figured that she'd be able to access the basement easily enough(she kind of has honed her lock-picking skills because her parents try to lock her out of the garage as punishment for the late nights she often has.

Si took the girl's defensiveness as a challenge. She drew off from the girl, but remembered this slight interaction between the two of them. So, when another girl clearly underminded the girl with the bag, Si snickered quietly.

She had to disagree with the girl's logic, though. "50 years old isn't too bad. There are houses that are 70 or 80 years old that still have working plumbing. "She gave a half smile then added, "If it's really important to get hot water or whatever."

She realized she was in the middle of some secret conversation and then wondered if these two girls knew each other. Obviously, they did. She stepped out of their way and went back over to her stuff, hoping to get into the house soon.

~Marzipan Yui~

Miss Yui nodded at the observation about the house's plumbing. Having spent most of her time in houses with excellent plumbing, she found that kind of a problem somewhat alien to her. By this point, however, she was getting rather fidgety.

"Listen, I really should be on my way... I may be late already. Unless you have anything else that's truly critical, I have to get back to my office."

She turned around and started towards her Hummer.

~Christian Lustbader~

Christian cracks a couple knuckles. It's not a habit of hers; it's simply confirmation that she got her sister's message.

She gets out of Marzipan's way, keeping one eye on her and one on Katie. This whole situation seems suspicious from the get-go, but it wouldn't be much fun otherwise. She keeps more of her attention on Katie, though, worried about her slipping something from the bag or keeping secrets about it.

~Skai Lustbader~

Satisfied that Christian had got the message, and noticing that she was watching both the Marzipan and the biker girl carefully, Skai focussed her attention on everybody else - especially the people who had not spoken up or otherwise drawn attention to themselves. One of the first tricks you learned in their parents' trade: misdirection. While everyone's eyes were on Marzipan, or the biker girl and the bag, someone else might quietly stroll through the crowd picking pockets. Skai doubted that petty theft was the plan here - this game was far too organized for such a trite scam - but there may still be a plant in the crowd, someone whose job was to watch the reactions of the investigators carefully, to gauge which of them was a suitable mark for different roles in some larger scam. So while Christian watched Marzipan and the biker girl - and, by extension, the pushy brunette that was hovering around the bag - Skai watched the others: the girl in the silver jacket and red cap, the green-haired girl with the strange eyes, and the asian girl.

She also looked over the front of the mansion, looking over the style of the building. She took her time to check to see how many entrances and exits were visible, if there were any balconies, and how many windows there were on the front for each floor.

She also carefully surveyed the snow around the mansion, looking to see if there were any tracks in the snow that covered the ground that had not been made by the investigating party.

From her side of the building, Skai can see the mansion's tall double doors, now a faded, dirty-white color, slightly recessed into the front wall.
The general style of the house appears Victorian, or at least something like it. A trained eye might reveal that it does not follow the rules of that style point-for-point, but it is a respectable approximation.

From her point of view, the only obvious entrance is the front doors. On the second and third floors, there is a pair of windows rather evenly spaced on each side of the front door. On the first floor, the windows are significantly taller, but there are still two on each side of the door, possibly shared belonging to large rooms. It appears that the first floor is raised about three feet above the earth, depending on one's point of reference, and a stone front porch rises to meet the front doors. On Skai's left, she can partially see a protrusion that looks like an oversized window with a giant sill for one of the rooms on the second floor.

The snow on the ground is mostly frozen slick on the surface, but by paying attention Skai can see sparse deer tracks occasionally approaching the house. Few of them seem to come nearer than 20 yards or so, and all eventually turn in a different direction.
