Bell's eyes glazed over as she was hit. Her lids slowly slid down and she slumped against a tree.
Renekai returned Bell to her Pokéball. "We won't lose next time," Renekai told the other confidently. "And you're lucky to not get disqualified for leaving your trainer's box!"
Indeed, the referee had to talk to a few others before deciding that Ferrum had still fairly won the match. The ref, on his intercom, reminded the trainers to stay on their squares until the battle was completely over.
"Seems that you're the one who needs to learn most," Renekai smirked. Renekai generally wasn't so mean, but she was stung by the newer trainer's cockyness. "We'll show you next time," Renekai muttered too quietly for even herself to hear. Renekai gave a wave, then left the stadium.
The trees gradually disappeared and the gym was restored to normal, ready for the next battle.

Ferrum snarled as the Delibird finally went down. "Good riddance." she muttered, before going to stand next to her trainer.
...
Leaving the entrance to the field, Jackie burned with embarrassment. Ferrum nudged her elbow tiredly until Jackie put her back into her pokeball. She sat on a bench in the crowded hallway, her face still deep red. "How stupid could I get? Ferrum, you have to keep me from doing these idiotic things before I really get us in trouble." The pokeball in her hands wiggled in agreement. Jackie sighed. At least they still let her go with the win, although it was just because it was her first battle. She couldn't afford to make any more mistakes, at least for Ferrum's sake. The pokeball in her hands grew warm, and wiggled again, as if to shake Jackie out of her dismal thoughts. "You're right. We'll lick 'em next time." she said, rubbing her eye. "Now let's get you to the pokecenter." she picked up her bag of winnings. It was a lot heavier than her wallet usually was. "And maybe to the pokemart after that." The pokeball churred quietly as she put it in her pocket. They both had grown after that first battle, but the only way to go was up.
