"Well then," Drywood said with a grateful smile, "I would be much obliged if you did, dear Chase. You do look a good sight bigger and stronger than I, after all. I'm sure I would not have been able to carry that trinket of yours even half as far as you have."

It didn't show on his features, but inwardly Drywood was sternly berating himself. That he had forgotten to check with Chase whether or not he would mind carrying the pack was most impolite, and just assuming that he would was even worse! With a twinge of nervousness, the apothecary wondered if he had made any other social misses with the Shadow this night, but cooled himself by remembering that Chase had not once yelled, frowned or otherwise acted hostile towards him. In fact, the dark watcher had been very amiable and nice, and even given him some good advice on how to make his projects more effective.

Yes, he was sure that he had not accidentally insulted his guest. But he made a note to himself to be even more careful in the future - meeting Chase had been such an altogether pleasant experience so far that he actually found himself hoping for the dark male to consider visiting him again, sometime, and that wasn't something that he often felt.

He would have to be very careful indeed.

Unaware of Drywood’s inner thoughts, Chase hopped happily to the pack and pulled it up in the air with a light touch of his will, placing his wings between the straps, humming quietly. It took a few attempts to join the two straps before he finally succeeded. He flapped his wings twice to reach the platform, making sure the pack was properly adjusted (a bit tight perhaps but a good fit none the less) and turned back to his host with a cheerful expression. “All set. Shall we?”

One hour later…

Chase was standing on an oak branch, looking back at the dark path between the tall trees from where he had come. He held the black sack tightly between his talons, taking a short moment to rest before leaving Drywood’s territory. It had been a very interesting experience. One he would surely like to repeat. Saying he was extremely impressed with his new acquaintance would be an understatement. He couldn’t stop picturing the apothecary working in the upper level of his tree, dabbling with innumerous substances to create the most perfect medicines. Chase felt rather proud that they’d found so many little creatures that would help Drywood continue his research. He threw one last glance behind his back and hopped from the tree with the black bag still firmly secured between his talons and flapped his wings several times before disappearing amongst the shadows, gliding towards the heart of Noctua.

Longtail softly slid around her master where he rested, exhausted from the exciement and activities of the night and already half asleep, in order to better benefit from his warm down and feathers. The master stirred slightly, but only to make himself more comfortable in her reptilian embrace. The visitor had finally left and the master had spent some time filling up his cages with lots of soft, squirmy little mus, and Tails was contentedly digesting the ones that there hadn't been enough cages for. The serpe came to a rest snugly tucked in against her master and yawned spectacularly, pleased to feel the master's wings unfold slightly to provide even further warmth for her as he chuckled quietly to himself.

The master had chattered happily for quite a while, while he fiddled about with the mus and the cages, had talked about "crafters" and "improvements" and mentioned that visitor a few too many times, in the serpe's opinion. He had spoken of going away for a while, maybe all of tomorrow, to find this "crafter"-thing - because it seemed important to his experiments, somehow.

Longtail didn't much care about those experiment-things. The only thing they seemed to do for her was to make the mus and the parus inedible - but they were important to the master, made him happy, so she offered no protests about his planned absence.

Nor did she offer any protests when he vaguely hinted that maybe the Chase-visitor would come to visit again, because that too seemed to make him feel happy. But neither did she make any promises to behave herself at that time.

There were limits to just how accommodating she could be, after all.
