Foxtrot laughed with her and smiled.
"Well, now that I'm not moping and that we're down here at the border, might as well try and find some prey."
He let his mouth take in the forest smells, leaves, thunderpath, but the strongest scent in his nostrils was Spottedheart's.

"Well we're not going to find anything with the reek of Thunderpath looming around," Spottedheart said as she led the way out. Keeping herself close to the shadows, she moved away from the Thunderpath, checking for scent every so often. Soon she heard the tiny scuffling of paws. Creeping closer, she caught sight of the unfortunate mouse before it had the chance to get away. She looked back to Foxtrot with the mouse dangling from her mouth and smiled.

Foxtrot nodded and followed her, his ears angling and his mouth still open. He too had smelt the mouse, but it was intercepted by another scent, snake. He smiled back as Spottedheart returned and flicked his tail to signal he'd be back. He slipped into the tall grass, moving silently along. Then the smell bcme stronger and he was able to pinpoint its location. It was dead in seconds and he brought it back to where Spottedheart was and covered it with some earth.
"Leaf-bares been generous this year," He meowed.

"Yes it has," Spottedheart agreed and placed her kill next to Foxtrot's.
She listened again for any sounds of prey and tried to scent for anything. Everything was quiet and the only thing she could smell was Foxtrot's scent beside her. Too bad leafbare is never as generous as newleaf, she thought.

Foxtrot listened and scented again, but found no more prey for now.
"Hmm...how about we circle around to where Carrion Place is? See if we can find any prey up that way, though we wont get rats...last time it didnt end pretty," He meowed, a shudder going down his spine. Ravebpelt had told him how many cats had died of sickness from rats.

"Alright," Spottedheart meowed.
Even though she had seen the sickness and death brought to many cats by the rats, she found it hard to believe that such small creatures could ever harm her, so she walked boldly towards Carrion Place.

Foxtrot padded alongside her, sniffing the air carefully. He shuddered again at the smell not to far of of the diseased rats.
"But we're not going for the rats," he meowed quietly to himself. Sickness always gave him the creeps perhaps thats because thats how his real mother dies. either way, they werent stupid enough to touch those disease ridden furbags.

Spottedheart stopped when Carrion Place came within sight. Ignoring the foul smell coming from the place she scented for any other prey. She padded closer, listening more with her ears than her nose. She heard a distant croak from a frog, and searched in the direction it had come from. Spotting the creature, she pounced and killed it.

Foxtrot shut out the scents around him of death and sickness and twitched his ears. He saw Spottedheart go off for a frog when he heard slight rustling in nearby bushes. He fell into a hunting crouch and stepped lightly forward, seeing lightbrown fur. He pounced on the mouse, its death sueak muffled by mud, so inaudable. Hie picked it up and brought it back to were Spottedheart had left for the frog.

Spottedheart began to smile at Foxtrot, but stopped when a foul stench came to her nose, fouler than the Carrion Place. She heard little pawsteps rushing at her and before she had the chance to say something, she was attacked!
Twisting around, she found herself staring right into the eyes of rats.

"No!" Screeched Foxtrot. He had feared this...He saw the grey masses rushing at them. He felt his blood pounding in his ears, and was suddently engulfed in rage. No...right when he had found love, he wouldnt let these rags try to kill her...
He flung himself at the rats, biting and scratching the creatures, ignoring wounds he was getting.
"Spottedheart, go! I'll follow you!" He called, killing them with all his might.

Fear engulfed Spottedheart and made her realize that rats could give rats trouble. Fear made her realize that she should listen to Foxtrot instead of fighting these things off, so she killed a few rats that were in her way, looking behind her once to see if Foxtrot was following her.

Foxtrot slung the rats on him aside and turned to run after Spottedheart, but the numbers engulfed him andf held him down. He felt teeth sink into his skin and he growled. They were focused on him now....then he bunched his muscles and sprang forward in a tremendous bound, running right behind Spottedheart, immidiatly running. The rats trailed after them, but he knew they wouldnt come too far.
"Go!" He yowled, as soon as he landed. They would make it..."Go back to the tree by thr Thunderpath!"

Spottedheart nodded and continued running, rushing for the tree by the Thunderpath and kicking up dirt behind her. What if the rats followed them there? No, she better not think about that; they wouldn't be able to keep up.

The rats hadstopped when they were mid way to the tree. Foxtrot didnt chance a look back until he was at the tree with Spottedheart. He sat down heavily, his sieds heaving as he fought for breath.
"I'm sorry Spottedheart...I almost got us killed..." He meowed between gasps of breath.
