I've always had a fancy for the cymbols and the timpani. So far i havn't gotten to play Timpani much but i did march cymbols in our parade this year and it was awsome! I would loooove if we had a cymbol line!

For the PDA thing the directors are really laid back about us, it's usually the kids joking around, although our band usually doesn't let the directors see our PDA...

I must admit I'm mildly shocked...
see, this is uniform etiquette at our school- no swearing, no eating or drinking anything besides water (if it's full dress, half dress is ok), no running, no "celebrating" (push ups)... and no PDA. Including a friendly hug. The only time I've seen the last be breached without people getting yelled at was in our little circle of buses/truck/ trailer after state finals last year. I've seen people give hugs in uniform, and people tell them not to once it becomes apparent that that's what they'll do. And the director doesn't have to be in sight for this to happen. It's just engrained in us.
Of course, I'm not sure why I'm surprised, as a lot of high schools seem a bit more lax as far as uniform etiquette goes.
Now, honestly, I think that a first kiss right before going on the field/ floor would be tres romantic... but I wouldn't let it happen.

Anyways. I marched cyms for winter season last year. It was... not the best such a line could've been, because we had only two people and neither of us had done cyms before.
I've already decided that if I go out for drum corps, it's going to be on cyms. The only problem is experience.... there's a line this winter, but I have too many classes this semester to do it. And I'm a junior. So, if I hope to do it the year after graduation, I NEED to do it marching band next year... and we have /never/ had a cym line for marching season. sweatdrop Our tech wanted to have one last year... here's hoping we get a flood of people doing percussion so we have the numbers to do it. I really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really want to do cyms again anyway, even forgeting about all drum corps aspirations.

uniform etiquette is much the same for us, but it only applies when there are people who aren't with the band around. tho we still aren't allowed to eat or drink anything but water, we are allowed to hug. our director hates PDAs tho, there aren't as many band couples this year tho, so that wasn't really a problem.

there are only two cymbal players in my band, but we are both experienced, so no one really worries about us. tho we are both going to graduate soon, so we are gunna need to come back for band camp and teach the little freshman how to play. last year we had a whole cymbal line, but most of the people couldn't play and me and the other cymbal player had to try to coach them, but neither of us are good at teaching, so we didn't try to get a whole line together again this year. kinda sad, but its alright.

lots of people don't really realize that its hard to play crash cymbals at first.

when i started playing cymbals i wasn't the only one, but the guy i was playing with didn't want to help me with anything. crying

Hellz yeah! Our cymbal line (only three inculding me) demand total attention from the audience due to our amazing visuals. Paul, our cymbal leader was the only one who had any idea what he was doing and came up with all of our visuals. Me and Lauren were pretty much on our own. His goal for his last year in marching band is to do backflips with the cymbals. I think he's tired of doing guillotines.

Unimorm etiquette?
No food EVER.
No drinks other than water
Hugging is allowed
Our uniforms are 13 years old, so they're hell bent on protecting them. Hopefully we'll get new uniforms for our next season.

I love my cymbal line, I may be the peace maker (even if I deny it) in it, but I have been frinds with them from the very begining. Theres a senior (our section leader), a jounior (former tuba), a sophmor (Monster Engergy freak), and a froshy (me!)... A bit off beat, but who isn't!
