ball - from the first balls we play various games with our children to help them learn and have fun - to the "balls" that our children attend in High School and we hope they have learned all the right things and have fun!

good one!! hmmm. fun!! all the fun we have watching our children grow and explore the world. Taking them to museums (esp. ones like Cosi), hiking, camping, to just playing in the backyard and finding a catapillar.

Head as in head games. something i'm not good at but need to learn when dealing with kids. like learning how to distract them from what they want and coercing them into doing what they don't want. (aka bribing unfortunatly something i swore i would never lower myself to)

intelligence - my one-room-school-marm -grandmother said it wasn't "bribing" if we controlled the goody. Just as we work for a paycheck and need to meet certain expectations to get one - we can focus the child's actions towards a positive action with the right motivations - just we can not let them control the goodies - then it is a bribe that may or may not work from then on!

nicknames - I have always tried really hard not to call any of my children derogatory nicknames even (maybe especially) when I am mad at them. I think they will get enough "labeling" outside of my home!

juvenile - some of those nicknames and "games" - now that we are adults - sure loose their power - but can still sting, can't they?

courage - it takes a lot of that to raise children in today's moral climate and stand up for what you believe in. I was reading an article in Woman's Day about the peer pressure still put on us as parents (like snack assignments after the kids practice) and how sometimes we still bow to it.
