Daxelman X-Legends-Never-Die-X I can't believe it. GAMESPOT voted a Nintendo game GOTY. Astonishing. And Zombicide, I agree Halo deserves some awards. At LEAST give it soundtrack or musical score. I mean, COME ON! I played it for the first time yesterday, and the music during the menus, made me want to break down and cry. TELL ME THAT'S NOT AWESOME!!!!
I don't think games like Guitar Hero or Rock Band should get these awards, due to the fact that they're just a compilation of songs that were already made. And if not given that award, Halo 3 had BETTER have been nominated.

It's still good music, that's all that matters.
Nothing will ever beat Reptilla, ever.

I'm not doubting SMG....I still need to play it for myself...but I have a feeling that it and Ratchet and Clank Future(R&C is a platformer too, right?) should have tied or at least come close. Of course...I've only played R&C and need to play SMG to make sure I'm just not missing out on how awesomesauce SMG is sweatdrop

I kind of felt that Gamespot were saying "Were not biased towards the 360 lets give Nintendo GoTY!" SMG is a great game..but man it's an acid trip gone good. o.o;
@Canis: R@C is a good platformer but man SMG just went and said "******** it" towards the other platformers. R&C is a traditional platformer like Sonic for the 360. SMG just re-made the platformer towards new heights.

Zombicide But BioShock was better than CoD 4 and Crysis. BioShock's powers were a bit cooler, and it was FAR more creative than CoD 4. You should be put in a Psych Ward. Maybe Bioshock did a great job giving people the general feeling and atmosphere of a would-be underwater metropolis but CoD4 provided tons of thrills, tons of immersion and arguably the most detail in any military FPS I've seen to date. And can we really count Bioshock as an FPS? Isn't it somewhere in the same category as a game like Metroid Prime? FPA?

Didn't read it, because I'm not paying to watch as they debate games I don't have (though I do have Metroid Prime 3) and look at their E3 coverage that I can get free on Gamespot.

I wouldn't blame him, chance to settle an old age dispute in Olympic form.
Though, I'd wait for Brawl. That's where the money is.

I've played Super Mario Galaxy. My verdict: it's irritating and underwhelming. My little sister thinks it's irritating. My roommate, who would marry Nintendo if he could, thinks it's "meh" and just keeps playing Fire Emblem. This is the SAME roommate who LIKED Super Mario Sunshine!!!!
So why is everyone in Internet Land going bonkers for this game? It really isn't that great!

And can we really count Bioshock as an FPS? Isn't it somewhere in the same category as a game like Metroid Prime? FPA? Bioshock is not better than Crysis or COD4. It's a gimped version of System Shock 2 from the story (going from Cyber punk to Bio-Steam Punk) right down to the villain with the new addition of Big Daddy type opponents. Bioshock is essentially the late to the party game for console gamers that missed out on System Shock 2. However it isn't a FPA. It's an FPS in the same vein as Half-Life2. Crysis actually pushed sandbox FPS forward as far as gameplay goes.
I mean seriously. Jumping off a cliff and punching through a building roof then tossing that same roof across the beach into a pack of enemies right into a crazy boat battle using the speeding boats as lily-pads just because you can, not because the game tells you that's what you need to do, but because with in the limitations of the game itself it became a possibility.
COD4 is one of the best linear "roller coaster" experience FPS to date.

Zombicide Griggle990 Zombicide See people? This is EXACTLY what I feared! You ignore Halo 3 completely. Yeah, call me a ******** fanboy all you want (despite the fact I'm not), but Halo takes a lot of s**t, and I think it should've won some awards on there. Halo may be over-rated, but that gives people no right to ignore it. And Game of the Year should have been BioShock. However, I do agree with the lousy Wii ports as worst trend, since Wii ports always have tacked-on motion controls that make the game less fun to play. The game industry is not the same as it was in 2004. There are too many better game out there this year. I guess you agree with the spike TV game awards if you think the Bioshock won Game of the Year. The thing is that both Bioshock and SMG both have no multiplayer. Multiplayer these days is essential, and I cannot belive the a single player only game could win this year. Are you implying that Halo 2 only won in 2004 because it's Halo? Very ignorant.....Halo 3 should've won something because it was an excellent game. You guys really need to open up a bit more towards Halo. You treat it as if it's yesterday's trash. And BioShock had multiple endings which added replay value. Also, it was better overall compared to Super Mario Galaxy. Better graphics, better sound, more creative, and just more fun overall. And in the end, isn't playing a game all about having fun? Oh, and funniest game should have gone to The Simpsons Game, because Orange Box was not meant to be funny at all. Well this is a bit off topic but Halo did win an award in the Spike tv Awards it won for Most Addicting Game of 2007 and I think best shooter for the 360 best shooter of the year went to call of duty 4 but the most disapointing was that bioshock won game of the year at the spike TV game awards I do not think bio shock deserved it looking at the other candidates who were up for it granted bioshock is a great game but its a one time play which in my mind is not game of the year material of the candidates for spike TV game of the year the candidate should have gone to either Halo3 or Mass effect but not bioshock just thought I'd mention that to let u know that halo has recieved its dues somewhere but I agree with u full heartedly that in these awards it should have recieved something even the slightesset honorable mention for graphics or compeleing storyline something along those linew would have been fantastic

That was a fixed award. Mountain Dew promoted Halo 3 heavily.
No, Halo 3 didn't need any awards, and yes Halo 2 won GOTY just because it was Halo. Half-Life 2 was released in 2004 and only won GOTY from PC mags because PC games tend to be ignored by the non-PC centric GOTY awards. This year Halo 3 was released into a season with a bunch of better games. COD4, The Orange Box, etc. Mass Effect is just KOTOR reskinned with less options. It's a great game but it was a step backwards from KOTOR.
Also, The Orange Box deserved every award it got for Portal, Team Fortress 2, and Half-Life2: Ep2. It's blasphemy that Crysis didn't win every award for graphics though. The only other game that rivals it isn't even out yet and that's Far Cry 2.
Continuing on that little rant, Half-Life 2 deserved Game of the Year for 2004. Halo 2 did things that PC games were doing in 2001. Just like if FFVII had been released on SNES as a sprite based game, if Halo were on PC it would have been treated like it actually is in the world of the FPS. Mediocre.

@Arvis: I said before your roommate don't decide the greatness of the game nor does your little sister. Jump off this "annoying, fat plumber" kick. (That quote is from you.) Excuse me if I don't take a Sony fan/anti-Nintendo person's (Takes every opportunity to knock DS and takes shots at Wii) opinion of it.
Go ******** off to Final Fantasy (not an attack on FF) a bit more and jump off of Nintendo. You don't see me going around attacking everything non-Nintendo when I get the chance to.
In a "game of the year" thread I made a while back when I said for it be be fair say something for each console/handheld if possible. Those who can't say something for it for whatever reason (Not owning one, etc) did what Viking did:You said this: Quote: DS Winner - Nothing: I'm not really in a position to judge DS games. Mostly because I would rather staple my foot to my face than use a stylus to play anything. Beyond this fact, I have no opinion on any of the games on this system.
Runner up - Really Nothing: Did I mention that you can get a DS in pink? How gay. If I said anything like that in that thread or any thread about anything non-Nintendo I would have been ripped a new a*****e.
I wouldn't have said anything about your post but you put everything off as fact. You never said "I think or "I feel" or "In my opinion". You just said "It really isn't that great" like it's fact.
I would have respected your opinion but not opinion passed off as fact.
Note to Everyone: Don't let my remarks this kill the thread. Keep on going.

And can we really count Bioshock as an FPS? Isn't it somewhere in the same category as a game like Metroid Prime? FPA? Look's like you need some electric shock treatment, buddy. I found almost nothing that separated Call of Duty 4 from almost every other military shooter out there. The core gameplay was very similar to every other military shooter out there. The only things I found different were the "thriller" segments, and the high graphics quality. BioShock had a lot more of a story than CoD 4, and it had some really intense thrills as well. As in, intense to the point of ********. CoD 4's thrills were just popcorn-flick thrills. You know, a guy gets hit by a helicopter, an so on, so forth......yeah, I've seen so many action movies where thrills like that occur. @ Death Blues Mix: And Call of Duty 4 is essentially a warped around version of its predecessors, so you have no argument there. The only difference is that the original games were set in WWII, and this one is set in some fictional modern-day setting. By the way people, enjoy this setting while it lasts, because Call of Duty 5 is ditching the modern setting for another World War II setting.
