Darebone reached with a hand to grab what parts of the creature she could to try and just pull it apart at this point. Really, it was amazing how it just kept coming and coming. She hadn't staggered back from it's impact, but had had to rebalance herself, now using what she grabbed to keep her upright.
It was going down, there was no doubt about that in Susan's mind, but unlike most of the other heroes, she wasn't going to chatter about what she was doing or how pathetic the creature was. But she was just as determined. It. was. going. down.
Ace had now stopped jumping around and stared, transfixed by the scene. SO FREAKIN' AWESOME!!

Using its back legs it pushed at her, claws reaching through the spikes. It didn’t pay any heed to the fact that it was digging the bones in even deeper or that she was also reaching out as well, pulling off pieces of wood, leaves and twigs. It was making odd grating, snarling noises in it’s effort to reach her.
Raleigh was frowning. Right now he wasn’t expending any energy at all. The Manticore was running on its own power. If he wanted he could reform it into something else. He knew that he could manage that, even though knew that Ace wasn’t helping all that much anymore.
But it didn’t seem fair to do that.

With a grunt, Darebone suddenly spun around, tipping both herself and the manticore off-balance. But, again, she was smaller and was now retracting some of the heavy weight to duck and pull back. She didn't get out without huffing a bit, but she was focused and determined to continue this one out until the other side gave in.
Picking up her staff, Darebone swung it around on top of what she could connect with, then swung her own body weight on top of it, again adding spikes and weight to her mass.
Something was going to break. It had to. And she wasn't going to LET it be her.

The lion continued to push and when Susan suddenly spun, completely lost its footing. The tail scraped the ground. Jaws clamped down on one of the spikes, holding on until it lost its grip and fell back, slipping free from the bones.
The creation crashed to the ground in a heap, riddled with holes and barely capable of moving. It struggled into an upright position, ready to start towards Darebone, but Susan was already there.
Mid-section torn badly, the lion creature couldn’t move its back half properly. It bit at Susan, but the weight of her made it collapse completely on its side. One paw, the only one that was still working properly, batted at Susan as best it could.

"Ooawwhh...." Susan half-laughed, half-cooed at the beast as she stared at its paw, then dropped her staff on it and stood, "That was an amazing job on your part, Raleigh!" She stated, "How are you feeling? And you, Ace?" She took several steps back from the beast -- knowing Raleigh too well -- and turned into her normal form, flicking the last of the scorpions away from her onto the heap of rubbish as she did so.

Raleigh gave a lopsided smile. “Thanks.” He said and then walked over, past Susan, to the still struggling creation. It seemed determined to get up and continue the fight, only stopping when Raleigh knelt next to it.
“That’s enough. Well done.” He touched it briefly with his hand, calling back his powers. Taking the life back still hurt him, but he had learnt how to block it out… mostly. The lion lost all signs of life and returned to the original materials, dropping apart like a broken puzzle.
Raleigh stood and stretched. “I feel pretty good. Just a little drained. I’ll need a nap later but… Ace added a lot to my abilities.”

"He did help you a lot with the pure power control. I'm surprised at how well you executed that. Not many can just pick up on a surge of power and use it immediately. You did very well." Susan praised Raleigh, then turned to Ace, hands on hips, "And you, Mr. I don't think I really have powers! Really, now! Focusing your control to me so that I nearly lost it there. How about that? See there, you can concentrate your---"
"What are you talking about? No I didn't. . ."
"You even SAID something, Ace!" there was definitely a tone of scolding in her voice now, "Don't tell me you went through that whole thing and didn't even pay attention to your abilities and what you could do."
"...Uuhh...Ok, I won't."
"For crying out loud!" Susan shook her head, "Well, at least one of you did well today. How about a bit of relaxation? What would you like, Raleigh?"
"The computer program really isn't set up for. . ."
"Ace, you don't know everything. You're not the only one that forces the programmers to do something useful." Susan smiled, and went to a wall, now switching the training room scene to a living room, "Not that we can bring real food or anything, but there are some limited options, if you're interested. Or you could get some R&R at home, I suppose. Your call, Raleigh."

The praise caused another, and very sincere, smile. Of course he knew he’d done well, but it was good to hear it. Raleigh chuckled as he listened to Ace as the boy struggled along in his power confusion. For someone who wasn’t really even sure he had one he’d done a damn good job. He would be useful to have around.
When the living room scene appeared he found the lounge chair and slumped back in it. “Any possibility of a long hot bath?” He asked. It wasn’t as if he’d been doing anything too strenuous (physically anyway), but he felt he deserved.
Raleigh scratched the back of his neck idly. “I’m used to focusing my power and I spend a lot of time in meditation. I have to have a tight reign of control of how much energy I use, so I can make something exactly how a need. That was how I could deal with the boost.”

Susan shook her head at his first question with a bit of a roll in her eyes, but listened intently to his others, "When you first came in, it was recommended that everyone take a martial arts class. That was one of the things we did hope you would grasp, though I think it ended up being a little too abstract for most." Susan sat down on the floor while Ace paced around to explore, "People don't understand that mental control is just as important as power control, especially at your age a lot of times. And mine, I suppose. So many people make that mistake."
Her voice drifted a little, but she frowned and focused back on the current situation. "You could probably teach a few things to a lot of people around here about that. It'd be useful." Her eyes shot a look toward Ace as she spoke. His attention was all over the place. She couldn't imagine him handling mentally exhausting powers like Raleigh's... and it'd be embarrassing to put him in a fight and see him adding strength to the wrong party, but she could see it happening.

Lounging back in his chair he gave the slightest of shrugs. “I enjoyed the martial arts training. I could just focus on what I was doing and forget everything else.”
Raleigh listened to her careful and then gave a deep chuckle. “Me teach? I’m not sure if I have the patience for something like that.” His gaze followed Ace as he wandered around the room. That kid didn’t stop moving.
“But I’d give it a try.” A little, wicked smirk rose on his lips.

Susan's eyes now showed a hint of amusement, "I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one grateful for it. Who knows? Maybe you'll turn out to be a good teacher."
"Raleigh, a teacher?" Ace asked as he meandered over behind the lounge couch, and now flopped over so he landed on top of Raleigh, "Are you trying to recruit him to train so you don't have to? Hey, this scorpion's still around."
It was still hanging onto Ace's ear for dear life.

“Maybe.” Raleigh still sounded doubtful. Though in truth he had gained quite a lot of patience in these last two years; a patience that was shown in how Raleigh dealt with Ace’s suddenly collapsing on top of him. He gave a little grunt of surprise, shifted a little to the side and then ignored the action, instead reaching for the scorpion.
The creation dropped passively into his palm. “Did you want it?” He asked Ace, looking at the little creature, which waved its little tail back and forth, fondly.

Ace's eyes lit up, "Really? I can keep it? It won't fall apart as soon as you leave or something? What'll it do? I wonder how Pocket would like it. . .Did you get one of those critters? Where's yours at, Susan?"
"Great, Raleigh, I'll keep in touch with you about that. Annie's at home, probably snuggling with...my pillow." Susan answered, smiling now. She did like her little rabbit.

“Sure you can.” Raleigh focused on the scorpion for a second. You belong to Ace now my little friend, be good. After a moment spent reworking its ‘instincts’ he replaced it on Ace’s shoulder. “It won’t fall apart without me. It’ll listen to your commands… unless I give it one.” He smiled. “It won’t do too much damage.”
Raleigh yawned and then locked his hands behind his neck. “Righto Susan.” So, teaching, eh? That would be interesting. Ruri would have one hell of a laugh when he told her.
As they talked about their ‘pets’, he remembered his own. That damn cat was the oddest thing he had ever seen.
“So, if we’re done, can I go home and have that bath now?”
Ooc: Oh man, Raleigh is positively placid in this rp. xD What’s happening to him?!

Ace sniffed, "Please do, you positively STINK!" He jumped up, cupping his hands carefully around the scorpion -- who immediately clipped onto a pinky finger for life again. "And thanks, so cool, I've got a twig scorpion! Candy will freak. So will Dad. Hah."
Susan sighed at Ace, "Well, have a good day. Enjoy your time off!"
