Okami on the Wii...

Finally, somebody will play this game. And I'll be one of them, finally...

I giev 5:1 odds that Okami will just be ignored again. The same demographic that made Mario & Sonic At The Olympics a best-seller is not going to appreciate Okami.

Oh, but I disagree. I will notice it, and that's all that mattered to Clover, right? Somebody, anybody, buying and appreciating Okami. I think it originally sold 10 copies on the PS2 in Japan? Something like that...

Maybe if they marketed it as a painting simulator and had Miis run around chasing the Celestial Brush... There, that's a multi-million seller there!

Holy crap, that is a multi-million seller!
Too bad it's not effing Okami. What you suggest is blasphemy, akin to painting ET over God on the Sistine Chapel ceiling.

I do not, by any means, suggest Capcom take this course of action to ensure Okami sells well on Wii. What I do suggest is they beat the hardcore gaming market in the crotch over this opportunity, as Suda 51 should be doing for No More Heroes.

However, I believe Nintendo will already control the market for painting simulators by then... They've renewed their copyright on Mario Paint and I would definitely expect them to release some sort of Wii Paint game within the next year, hopefully with Photo Channel, MP3, DS connectivity, and Wi-Fi support, though I wouldn't hold my breath. More likely, they stop bundling Wii Play with a Wii-mote, make it a Player's Choice title, and bundle Wii-motes with a special brush attachment (similar in necessity and effectiveness to the Zapper) with this Wii Paint...

Suda tried hard, and I mean reaaal hard. Hanging out with big name Japanese devs. Promotions like crazy. Appearing on Kojima's podcast/radio show thing. Etc. etc. All he has left is EU and NA, and we saw how well Killer 7 did. It'll be critically acclaimed but vastly ignored with a loyal, loving fandom.

Okami will be ignored. It couldn't succeed on a platform with a larger percentage of "hardcore" gamers than the entire current Wii install base. The best chance the game has is for the people that bought Metroid, Fire Emblem, and other more 'off' Nintendo games. Even then it's got the odds against it by being third party on a Nintendo platform with out the name Square-Enix in front of it.

More importantly, does anyone care about Baroque? *crickets churping*

I'd be more excited if it was a game by Nippon Ichi Software, like Disgaea, then I'd actually get to play one of those games...
