Rogue followed the other two down the stairs and out the door. She had barely cleared the entrance when Sara's snowball hit her shoulder. "Hey! None o' that now!" she protested with a laugh.

She raced down the steps and into the snow, grabbing a double handful of the fluffy ice crystals, and packing it into a ball. Laughing, she flung it at her assailant before shouting, "Or at least not unless you want to start an all out war!!"

Laura looked up from her sandwich as Marcus said hello, and waved back. "Shoulders stiff again today?" she asked him, upon seeing him attempt to work the kinks out. "Not surprising since there's snow outside." she continued, with a nod towards the window.

She saw that it was snowing again, and muttered to herself, "Hmm... Looks like it's picked back up out there. Guess I got back just in time." Considering her exercise clothes were little more than loose dance pants and a skintight t-shirt, 23 figured that if it had been snowing while she was out she'd have come back a bit worse for the wear.

Sarah was grinning at Victoria even as she got another snowball ready. Once that was done she threw it at her. "Oh come on now Victoria...don't be such a grouch." She said and her grin widened as Rogue grabbed up some snow and armed herself. With a laugh Sarah vaulted down the stairs and scooped up some snow herself. "What if I do? What then?" She asked Rogue.

"Afternoon Markie." Lizz said as she waited for her soup to be done. She groaned and got up excusing herself. Once out in the hall she blew her nose again. Returning to the kitchen she disposed of the used tissue and washed her hands.

Marcus nodded at Laura. "Yea, it's the cold...I start to solidify in cold weather." He said shifting his weight a bit. "I'll be fine once I warm up a bit." He assured her. "Till them I just have to endure it." He said with a stiff shrug. "You still sick Lizz?" He asked before she got up and blew her nose. "I'll take that as a yes." He said as he spotted coffee. Something hot would help thaw him out a bit faster. He paused a moment to grab a cup from the cupboard before pouring himself a glass.

Shandra walked over to the window and opened it up. Almost cringing she grabbed some of the snow that was on the seal. She looked at it and decided against it. It didn't matter if people could detect her right now anyways.

She strolled back over to the fridge and pulled out a carton of eggs and a few pounds of beacon. She brought out two large skillets and started on the eggs. She made four sunny side up, four over-easy, and the remaining sixteen were made into scrabbled. The bacon she just cooked until it was done and put everything onto two serving trays.

She picked up an over easy egg and a few pieces of bacon to go with her strawberry drink before going back over to the window seat and starting on her small meal.

"I'm not being a grouch," said Victoria a bit forcefully as Rouge returned Sarah's snowball with one of her own. "I just don't like the cold. At all."

Though she was plenty bundled up, Victoria would admit to anyone in the vicinity that it was a bit nippy out here. The fact that they were in a port town being the main factor, she assumed. Oh, and the wind did not help either. Considering all factors, it had to be close to, if not, below freezing out here.

Shivering stiffly where she stood at the top of the stairs, Victoria braced the urge to stand still by trotting to the base of the stairs and into the front yard with the other two. Reluctantly tearing her arms from around herself, she knelt down and scooped up a large handful of snow. Packing it loosely into a ball, she was about to throw it at one of her comrades when a thought came to her.

"Ya know," she started, a smile growing on her face. "A snowball war isn't very much fun with just three teammates, is it?"

Conner left Becca entering the Prof's office and made his way to the kitchen, it looked like someone had already made herself breakfast. Conner didn't recognize her, but that didn't surprise him, if he wasn't stuck in his room studying or in the hanger and garage working he was down town grifting.

Conner didn't feel like cooking anything so he grabbed an apple and a bottle of water and sat down at the table. He took out a notebook and pen, flipped the book open and began to tick off all the Velocity's electrical systems that had checked out, the list ran through a quarter of the book and most of it had checked out, he sighed and began mentally adding up the time it would take to take apart the whole command console and check everything; on his own he reckoned that he would be finished inside of two days, if he was lucky.

The quiet of the kitchen made Conner wonder where the rest of the institutes occupants were.

"Oh come on Victoria..." Sarah said. "Smile...it's beatiful out." She said as she walked down off the pourch. Victoria's words sparked a new excitement. "You mean gather more people?" She asked as her eyes brightened at the thought of having more people. A snowball fight was much more fun when there were more people involved.

'What's school going to be like?'

She drew her legs to herself and sat silently, looking out the window into the snow. She kept drumming her fingers against her leg and humming quietly so she wouldn't turn invisible. She really did have to work at that if she wanted to actually sit in classes once more. Shandra knew she had a problem in her educational fulfillment section of her life because, sadly, the teachers would mark her absent from class when she wasn't.

'It's my fault that I forget to move differently every now and then...they stop detecting me when I forget to fidget.'

She turned her eyes to the new person that walked in, noticing that he had just grabbed a piece of fruit.

"If you wanted some eggs or bacon...there is some on the stove, I made it for anyone who wants some," Shandra said after she had swallowed her yolk covered piece of bacon.

The person at the table was working on something, she figured, and it took a lot of his attention. She had never seen him around before but then again, she hadn't been around long either. Shandra had to wonder, though, just what he was working on. She always was the curious type even though she told herself that curiosity could be a bad thing among so many people who were made out of secrets.

Shandra got up and set her plate in the sink and went back to the window alcove.

"You can't tell me when to smile," muttered Victoria under her breath, but her mood was starting to pick up some in spite of the temperature. Glancing up at the X-Mansion behind her, she sudden realized how huge it was and could not fight the temptation to fling her freshly made snowball at one of the upper windows. It hit square in the center of the bottom panel with a satisfying THUD that finally brought a smile to the young mutant's face.

"Gathering more people isn't what I meant, actually," said Victoria in response to Sarah. Packing another quick snowball, she picked out another target, the window to the right of the one she had just hit, before flinging it with pin-point accuracy and turning to face the blonde.

"What I meant was, we need proper opponents," she finished with a raised eyebrow.

"Soup's almost ready, so that should thaw you out," Morgan said, stirring the contents of the pot periodically, so that everything didn't settle to the bottom and get stuck.

"Get your bowls! Soup'll be done in a minute or two, so have your dishes ready," he said, taking a sniff of the broth. "Ah, chicken noodle. Nothing quite like it on a cold day," he said.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

"Oooh, soup time now, yes?" David said, somehow managing to hear Morgan from the other side of the house. He was getting better at picking up sounds and other vibrations from the air, but he was far from perfecting this ability. At the most, he would usually pick up just a few words here and there. Fortunately, the words "soup" and "done" were the words he happened to pick up this.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Yes, just about. Get your bowl," Morgan said, glancing over at David, who had poked his head into the kitchen once more.

Sarah had another snowball with Victoria's name on it but since she hadn't retaliated against her first throw she'd hold off on it. She did keep an eye on Rogue who was holding onto her snowball. She turned her attention back to Victoria. "Okay." She said as she thought about what proper opponents ment. "So who do you have in mind for opponents?" She asked her curiosity starting to get the better of her.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Lizz nodded. "Thanks Morgan." She said grabbing a bowl for herself, Markus and David. "I don't deliver." She told them simply. Mainly now she would be nice and hand them their soup first but she wasn't up to being that nice at the moment. She waited for Morgan to spoon some soup into her bowl before retreating to her chair and sipping it carefully as to not scald her tong

Conner looked up at the girl when she spoke.

"I'm fine hen, I don't tend to eat much when I'm working and I've got to get back down to the hanger in a minute." He flipped over a page in the notebook and started to plan up his nights work also, he started it with 'lock picks' and went down the moral ladder from there. "So how you finding the institute?" He asked the girl.

"Very...strange," she said, not being able to think of a word, "It seems so quiet but I get the feeling that this is a reprieve, like the calm before the storm."

She bit her lip. She probably had said too much. Shandra remembered that her friends said she often spoke too much, rambled as it were. Yet she couldn't seem to stop herself when she wanted to describe something. At least she couldn't when she wasn't feeling repressed or intimidated. And, until she spoke, she hadn't.

"Good afternoon," came the Professor's cool and collected voice as his newest recruit made herself known just outside his office. He could not help but chuckle inwardly as she peaked in, just barely, from around the heavy, oak door. The two had yet to meet face to face, so it was quite obvious the young female did realize what his own abilities were: The Professor knew who she was a that she came to see him long before she stepped into the X-Mansion's vast ground.

"You wished to see me?" he said, and motioned to the lush chair just across from him, on the opposite side of his desk. "Please, have a seat, Rebecca, and make yourself comfortable."

====

"Well," thought Victoria aloud, and she flung a few more snowballs at the X-Mansion to keep herself occupied. "Save for the adults, there's really no one else here, is there? So," she continued slowly and glanced at Sarah and Rouge on occasion, to see if they could guess what she was insinuating. "How's about we cruise over to a particular part of town in search of worthy victims?"

“Hello,” she repeated. “I did.”

She inched in, gaze darting around the room, taking in some of the finer points: large wooden desk, numerous books adorning the walls and a dignified sort man watching her closely.

She moved to sit in the chair intended for her, finding it quite soft, softer than the cold ground, which had served as a seat for many a day now. As he spoke her name, Becca blinked, mouth opening and closing as she tried to respond to the fact he knew her name. Her fish impression was flawless.

“Um,” she said mimicking a fish for a moment more. “You are a mutant.”

Her mind seemed to have jammed, watching this rather normal (despite being bald) man before her. An adult. All the news about mutants was about children, teenagers. Mutant, this was something that was supposed to go away. Something to be cured. But here was an adult man, a mutant. If a cure existed, there wouldn’t be adult mutants. If she couldn’t be cured, she could never return to her family, her friends. No present, no future.

Becca’s lip trembled as these thoughts rushed through her mind.

“Um,” she said again. “Someone told me I could find someone here to help me.” Her voice raised in pitch. “But I don’t think you can.”
