La Fantome de le opera

--- Watching with an accusing raised eyebrow as he attempted to explain himself, the femme could only feel herself get angrier. He wanted to protect her? Who did he think he was? Robin Hood? The femme didn't need any chilvalry or pity! "I don't need any protection, or help. I've told you countless times, wolf." She spat, refraining from using as name as often as possible. Familiarity was weakness.

--- Necrala looked at the silver wolf sceptically, ears still pressed back. "Warmth? You expect me to believe that? The snow hasn't even fallen, it's not that cold! I've gone through colder winters, even without dens! Why would this one be any different?" The femme inquired sharply. "Why were you in my den?"

The silver male seemed to deflate before her very eyes, so it was back to being 'wolf' eh? Not that he had ever really gotten past the term it was always 'him', 'you', 'wolf'. He sighed at her declaration of independance and wondered whatever happened to a little gratitude.

"I suppose it would be too much to ask that you take my explination at face value and let me keep what dignity I have left?" Of course not, she would press and press. Sadly Musketeer feared he wouldn't press back, he had found the strangest spark in this female that was making him desperate to get her to see him as something more. Unfourtunantly for the silver male the words he was finding so difficult to utter were the ones that would probably make Necrala see him as something even less.

"Well...if you must know why...it...It really should be obvious! I don't suppose any male has ever been brave enough to try and get you to...to...like or love or even be nice enough to him for him to..." He was at a loss for words and for the first time in his life Musketeer was seriously considering turning tail and running to save himself. Though what part of himself he wasn't sure, hadn't he promised himself not to act like those foolish males that fell in love and went around their females all adoringly. Promise made, promise broke...except Necrala wasn't HIS at all she was all her own. She seemed to enjoy being all on her own as well, perhaps he thought if her happiness really stemmed from being left alone he should take a hint and git.

--- Shaking her head stubbornly the femme pressed with her cold eyes, watching the silver male (who in fact was still cornered in the den, to her lack of notice). The constant pestering and now the complete discerning of her terra, she needed to know what was up with this male.

--- "Obvious? If it was obvious I woul-" His words stopped the female in her tracks, Necrala, a look of utter confusion and sure enough, surprise, marked across her face. Her mouth was still open at his stuttering attempt of an explanation, sharp mind snagged on one simple word. Love? Somehow that was simply impossible, unfeasible in her world.

--- Taking a shaking step back the corpse colored she-wolf backed against a corner, the same shocked expression changing to something unsuspected, a slight hysteria.

Musketeer blinked as the she wolf backed up, he tilted his head and frowned at her hysterics. He supposed it was too much to hope that she had suddenly realized she was desperatly in love with him. He looked at her again and shook his head, nope that wasn't sudden realization...or at least if it was he hoped it wasn't about him. He slunk away from the corner he had been pressed in and gently nosed the corpse colored femme before him.

"Necrala? Are you okay?" It figured he tried to explain feelings and this was what happened! Whatever happened to plain old physical attraction, stuff like this never happened if it was all physical! But nooo he had to delve into personality and intelligence and all that inner beauty that he had avoided for so long, now look what had happened. The only female who's opinion he cared about had gone into shock when he tried to express himself.

--- Tha-He-.....Ya. The femme who knew everything, who NEVER needed anyone's help, ever. The indestructible corpse, cold as her pelt, fell apart with one, little word. Love. It was odd, that word. Told so often so that it'd never mean anything and somehow, not often enough.

--- The wolfess didn't make a move as the silver male nudged her softly, eyes staring straight forwards. Finally, her body began to shake softly, slowly, yet repetitively. Her gaping maw turned into a crooked grin, and soon, completely unexpected, she began to laugh. Hysterical and consistent, twisted and sadistic, she began to laugh.

--- "You....Yo-You liar." Necrala giggled, unable to believe his statement. How could anyone love anyone like her? Surely that cheeky little monster was lying!

Musketeer was getting worried,, she didn't look so good. He frowned as she sat there dazed and nudged her again. "Necrala?" He frowned and started to worry when she didn't respond.

At the slow shaking Musketeer frowned and licked her muzzle worried something really bad was happening. With the first laugh he jumped back shocked and stared, until her words reached him.

He growled softly, "Glad to know your still your old self...but I would like you to keep in mind that I DON'T lie. I have always kept my word to YOU especially so you wouldn't see me as such." He huffed and looked towards the den entrance, after all that she would be content to brush him off as a liar and cast him away again, he should spare himself.

--- The femme shrugged off his nuzzlings, as well as his (she assumed fake) concerned attitude. Oh, he was a good liar he was! Going through all of this! Just out of spite? He was a determined one he was! Through her own assumptions which toxicated her thoughts and mind, the grin was kept. No wolf in their right mind!

--- Necrala watched the wolf's eyes move to the entrance, and the femme made a welcoming gesture to it. "You can leave if you wish. But answer me one thing first. What, if you are speaking the truth, can you find in any of this," she gave a scornful laugh to her own frame, "to love? Enlighten me, Musketeer! For no other wolf has ever implied such!" The talking cavader pursued.

He might have been able to walk away if she hadn't used his name. Granted the fact she thought he was lying chafed at him as well. He growled and huffed turning and walking over to the female.

"Stop your laughing...If I didn't mean it I wouldn't have said it. Though it's no wonder no other wolf has implied any emotion for you the way you isolate yourself! No friends, no family, no one and nothing! I thought at first you just needed a friend, but that was almost too hard, you won't LET anyone be your friend. Then I wanted to help you, and then I started to care about what might happen to you, all alone forever. When you were hurt..." He huffed and turned with a growl, what was the point explaining if she would just call him liar again and send him off.

He stood still a long moment shaking with a mixture of anger and sadness, there was no way to prove his sincerity. Perhaps the reason he felt so much for Necrala was her challenging attitude, but if he could never overcome the challenge and face new ones with her it was a lost cause.

--- "Ah, so then you 'love' me out of pity then? I should've figured such..." Necrala replied just as sharply as he had, seeming quite ignorant of Musketeer's current position. She didn't need people, she didn't need anyone, especially him if he'd be so bitchy to her. Yet seeing him like this she felt just a smidge hollow, slightly, disappointed?, yes, that had to be it, to see him like this. Practically shuddering was rage and displeasure.

Musketeer frowned and turnced to pace a small circle. "I didn't say that, stop twisting everything." He sighed and shook his head sitting back down and trying to calm himself, but how could he when his emotions ran so high around this female.

"It isn't pity, and if it was no one would have any pity for you for very long." He huffed.

--- Settling down quite comfortably in her den, she watched him with silver eyes pacing around like that. Surely he'd wear a hole if he did that for much longer, perhaps dig her a cellar by incident? Outside, falling on deaf ears were the sounds of birds, and the vague sound of rumbling clouds, mixing with the rustles of autumn leaves upon the ground. Vaguely she wondered why Musketeer hadn't given up and left yet, the foolish wolf; a part of her wondered why she was wondering this. Surely he must need his eyes checked after this, his head examined as well!

--- "With the first words coming from my mouth..." Necrala cooed cooly, keeping her composure through it all.

"Agreed..." He huffed at her and eyed her with a mixture of desperation and exasperation. What had he ever done to deserve this!? Had he not always been curtious and kind with females, so why did he have to fall for the rudest most self centered independant one! Couldn't the fates have sent him a more sweet tempered siren?

As he eyed those dark eyes he sighed, apparently not. The fates were as against him as Necrala, he needed to take a hint.

"Well...even if a male did work up the courage to admit he loves you...I don't suppose you would believe it or care anyway..." He tried to sound huffy, but couldn't help come off as pathetic. Like a dog that kept coming back for more kicks, he wondered why he was still in the den waiting for more abuse.

--- Well, at least now they agreed on something. That's some basis for a relationship... Necrala thought coldly, looking away from the silver male. Wait. What relationship?! There will be no relationships going on around here! Especially not with that, that MALE! She didn't dare use his name, even in the recesses of her own mind. Speaking of which, why was her mind thinking such, BLASPHEMOUS thoughts? She never thought blasphemous thoughts, unless they were about others, then they were fair game. But never like this. So that'd have to mean....That's not a blasphemous thought?

--- No! Of course it was! Of course! Why in the world would she fall, in love of all things (the word was bitter on her tongue), with the wolf who'd followed her without tire! The wolf who had gotten SO fretful when she nearly killed herself, and chided her for not calling for help sooner! The wolf who went and got shot because she refused to go into his packlands with him! ....Wait.

--- Alright, perhaps her reasons for not loving him weren't very good. Not good at all. But she'd never admit anything! Admitting with acceptance, and accepting something was just like surrendering, which was a weakness. She'd lived off her wits and cold demeanor for as long as she could remember, shunning everyone except herself. Why stop?

Musketeer stared at Necrala a long moment feeling his heart sink. What was the point in sticking around waiting for another barb, another argument. He had no way to prove to her that he felt anything past what he had already tried. Still she seemed to think all his efforts useless.

If he would have known that he would have spared himself getting shot at, but even he knew that wasn't true. Even if Necrala hated him for the rest of her life he would still be there when she needed his help. That was the dispicable thing about love, he thought.

--- Of course she hated him, she hated his guts! Of course, that mean she couldn't...possibly, respect him, even slightly. Even if he was stupid enough to get himself nearly fatally wounded, he did do it for her. Which she still found odd, but was beginning to simply accept such strange behavior from this wolf. Because that's what he was, odd. He didn't care only about himself, he was attempting to help her (which was probably the most surprising of all, most wolves turned and ran), and he..loved her? Yup, definitely odd. Probably worse. Musketeer was most likely clearly and utterly out of his mind.

--- Keeping with the awkward silence that resounded in the large den, the corpse-colored femme made no answer to the male, instead grey eyes stared out the small opening to the outside world that was available to her, a straight, monotone line as an expression on her maw.
