"It seems to me as if someone has been telling you the wrong things, lass." He snorted softly as he shook his head before leaning in to give her cheek a gentle nudge. "A lovely lass like yourself should hold her head high... And have a bit of spirit. You do have a mind of your own, don't you?"

"But .... "She looked up at him slightly nervous. She hadn't ever been allowed to do anything like that and didn't know how much less if she actually could. What if someone caught her and she got punished?

"No buts." He snorted softly, keeping an almost mockingly stern look on his face. "From now on when you're in my company you're to speak your mind, bugger what anyone else says."

"Bugger?" She hadn't heard that before and had no idea what he meant. She guess it meant something like not listening to what everyone else said but that always got people in trouble somehow.

"Oh." That didn't make all that much sense but that was mostly because she'd never heard it before. You could just tell them that you didn't agree with them without having to say it in a weird way.

"Just trust me on that one." He nodded slowly as he gave her shoulder a gentle nudge with his own. "Now... Would you like to accompany me to the lake, lass? There's some delicious, sweet grass not far from there.
