How could she bear this? Neve had been so..she was so cocky when she had first met Marius, flaunting her wings, her exotic heritage. I am a mongrel and I was an a**.. she realised, eyes closed and her feathers still crossing her face.

And Marius was being - he was being all that he didnt need to be because she had treated him like a plaything, something to amuse her for a while until she got bored. And she couldnt bear it, couldnt take how well he was treating her.
'Leave me..' she whispered, moving her wing and looking up at him, the deep score along her face stung as she did so.
'Please, I don't want you to see me this way.' she managed to lever herself up, showering the ground with blood droplets and loosened feathers as she staggered to a somewhat upright position.
Her body demanded that she lose her silly pride and she leaned heavily on Marius, her good wing hooked over his back.
'We need to move,' she whispered. If her mother returned... She shivered at the thought.

He frowned at how she moved, and even more at her pride. But at least she had some common sense and was able to shift enough to lean against him. At the contact his breath hitched a bit, more than he would have liked, but quickly swallowed it and began to slowly walk, making sure she was with him. "How badly are you hurt?" He asked with concern, hsie eyes on her. He was trying to aim them through the way they had came, where the bramble had already been stepped on and thus he wouldn't have to watch his footwork.

He'd rather watch Neve.
'Because she's hurt,' he tried to reason, 'And because you did little to help.'

He certianly did feel guilty. Marius had wanted to help her, but he tried, but he could've done so much more! He gruffly sighed. "Neve, I apologize for... Not being able to help more." He said quietly, his eyes guarded and his expression becoming stoic. This was certainly something he'd have to make up to her for. Protecting someone's life was top priority, as his father would say. But he... But Neve was so hurt...

Neve had closed her eyes for a while, letting Marius lead them both for a while, merely gritting her teeth against the stinging pain as the autumn wind bit at her open wounds.
'Enough,' she said, looking to see where they were.

'You want to walk over more in this direction,' she steered him as best as she could, not wanting them to take the route that lead straight through the burial ground.

'I dragged you here, you have nothing to apologise for..' she drifted into silence as they walked on, well walked and wobbled. The back of her legs throbbed from the kicking that Izusa had landed, and her shoulder felt as though her mother had managed to catch a nerve.
'I couldnt let her.. hurt you.' she mumbled the last part.

He was quick to adjust to the direction she mentoned, not wanting her to try and lead. He nodded but didn't speak, not sure what to say. It wasn't until she began to speak again that he actually felt the nerve to say something, and he rolled his bi-colored eyes at her words. "Well, I will agree you did manage to take me here... But you didn't drag me. My curiosity was part of it too, as well as, to be honest, spending more time with an interesting mare." Marius chuckeld lightly to lighten the mood, but paused when he aught on to her mumbles.

He face grew stoic and he looked away, "Hurt me? Don't concern your well being for me. It's a stupid mistake."

A trace of her old humour returned for a moment;
'And was it interesting enough a time for you?' she asked, wincing as her shoulder was jarred as one of her hooves slipped on a stone. The going had gotten easier as they left the burial grounds and the surrounding area behind and drew nearer to the lake.

'Don't..don't tell me how to feel, I'm not my mother, I won't hurt anyone for no reason...and I - ' Neve pushed away from Marius when they were in sight of the stretch of water, unable to finish her sentence. She folded her good wing, limping away from the stallion, and dropped her head, shutting her eyes tightly against the memories.
Her mother..her own mother had attacked her. Might have killed her. She shuddered.

It made him more comfortable when she humored him. It was more like the Neve he thought he knew from the day they met. Not the self-sacrificial one with mother issues. He offered a light smile, bu it faded quickly as he watched her push away from him. Marius made a motion to follow her, but decided against it. He couldn't keep pushing himself on to help her if she wasn't going to accept it.

"Neve, I know, at least I like to think I know, that you would never act out like your dear mother," he started, taking a step towards the mare, a tad frustrated. Okay, he was actually quite frustrated. He knew she should take the blame for dragging him to her mother, but... He didnt want her to blame herself. It was his fault that Izusa took their "togetherness" the wrong way.

"I don't want to hurry you, but get a drink and we'll keep moving. I'm pretty sure I know of some shelter, because I don't think you'll be able to move on without some rest."

Neve had drifted for a moment, standing now next to the Lake, looking at her distorted reflection in the water.

'I could have,' she mumbled, her thoughts stuck in the memories of her childhood. It hadnt been what was classed as a normal upbringing; her mother had done her damnedest to put a seed of hatred in her children for their father, but Neve had always been stubborn that way and had thought of her parents in a seperate way, and loved them both equally.
She had thought that of her siblings she was the one that her mother had at least some feeling for, what time she had wasted trying to comfort Izusa!

She looked at Marius when he spoke, seeing but not seeing him, and blinked as she tried to digest what he had said. She went to do as he suggested but as she leant to drink, pain lanced through her shoulder and she gasped.
'I won't be doing that..'
Turning, she left the bank and went back to Marius's side, pressing her nose against his neck.
'Lead on.' she said softly.

It concerned him how she didn't drink, but it's not like he could force her. He wasn't in the pain she was in. His fights with his brother were nothing compared to what hd occured between Neve and her mother. It was sad to see such a sour relationship... He had thought of them to be close as how she spoke of them. He himself was closest to his mother, and thought he could relate. A sigh passed his lips as he mused over it, watching her carefully as she spoke, those his ears did not pick up on her words.

He was too busy watching her form, making sure that she could continue walking. She looked fine enough to continue on, but not in the best shape. Certainly not. But at the touch of his neck by her nose, he inhaled a bit sharply and the patch o skin tingled a bit. He glanced away momentarily, but nodded thoroughly. He hesitated a bit, but lightly pushed his side against her as to offer her support if she needed.

"It's not far. Should only be.... Well, should be little past these waters, if I remember correctly. You can make it?" His question was hopeful as he began to walk once more, his steps careful.

The shelter he had in mind wasn't a cave, like th ones his parents often habitated for some reason. But it was a shelter by a very thick canopy, where the population of trees were quite thick. The grass was longer there too, so it'd be a good pillow for the injured mare. At least, he hoped so.

Neve was close enough to feel his reaction to her touch and it caused her a moments consternation. What had he felt? Was he revolted by her touch? Such confusion..

It's only because you are vulnerable.. she chastised herself that she was reading too much into everything that he did. If she had been herself, if she hadnt just gotten herself beaten up by her own mother, then she would be more sure of herself. As it was she was finding herself overally grateful that Marius hadnt left her.

'I can make it, you'll help me,' she said quietly, her side and wing brushing against him as they moved along, Neve letting Marius lead the way as she had no clue where their slightly weaving path was taking them.

Marius simply nodded as she let him lead the way. He kept his expression guarded as they walked, as to notlet her see the mixed emotions crossing his face. She was a hurt mare, a top priority. He should be one-hundred percent concerned for her well-being, but part his mind was on something else... How her touch sparked somethin in him, her vulnerability. She was not sassing him or giving that little attitude that amused him. She was weak and in pain, and though that pained him himself... He could only really think about how close Neve was to him right now physically (and perhaps emotionally/mentally, he hoped).

"It's not far," he mumbled as he saw a large willow, that marked the shelter. He moved slwoly to duck himself and Neve through the long vines of leaves, sure to keep her close.
