Dory chuckled back, her stubby little tail giving another flick. She looked sidelong at him; he was fairly cute..and about as old as one of her sons! She shook her head; besides, she had made Squishy a promise that she wouldn't let her heart get so easily swayed next time, she might not remember everything that went on in her life but she did remember how good it was to be part of a pair, so the promise hadn't been easily made.
She tossed her mane, the curls falling as she kicked at the ground;
'One..' she started.
'Two, Three - Go!' she exclaimed, springing forwards on eager hooves. She was still chanting in her head that she was racing Vasu, so she knew this time she would likely win. She wind caught her breath, and her hooves struck the ground below hard as she galloped steadily.

As the blue mare began the count down, Vasu held his breath, listening to each number carefully anticipating the next. "Maaaah!" he exclaimed with force as he sped off, giving it his everything.
Neck and neck, he raced Dory. He noticed that she was slowly speeding inchs ahead of him. She was fast. Pushing his head forward, he tried to pick up a few paces, but just didn't have it in him. That's what he got for being lazy today.
She was going to win this race, no matter what he did.

She could hear Vasu's hard breathing, and it seemed to be staying behind her. She was going to win the race! At the protruding rock Dory skidded to a halt, her hooves digging into the ground and she turned on the spot, rearing a little, her front hooves dancing in the air before she stood to watch Vasu run up.
She grinned at him, her tail doing its usual happy little flick and she tossed the curls of her mane.
'That was fun! And I didn't forget what I was doing.' she laughed, making a joke of herself.
'I told you I was fast!' she boasted a little, not out of real pride but because she knew racing was pretty much the only thing she was really good at.

Vasu knew he wasn't going to win. His eyes shot up as the mare kicked up her front legs, causing hims to watch and slow his pace. He stopped short of her and laughed through his short breaths. "You really are fast Dory! How'd you get so fast?" he huffed.
She didn't forget this time, and Vasu was glad. Not for his sake, but more for hers. He imagined it could get very discouraging to forget all the time like that.

'Practice..I think.' the mare replied, her sides heaving a little as she got her breath back.
'Racing, as far as I know at any rate, is really the only thing I'm good at doing. Not a good mother, not a good mate but I can race.' Dory said, letting a little sigh out.
Should she really admit such a thing to someone she'd only just met? After all she might never see him again so in the end she figured it didnt matter. And she would probably be forgetting this conversation not long after leaving him so there was that also.
'Sooo..well I was heading somewhere I know, and I think if I go towards the Village I might remember where it was I was going.' she gave a half-smile.
'I'll leave you alone again, back to your - umm, that thing you were doing.'

Vasu listened to her speak of a mate, and being a mother. He would of asked her about her kids, but she seemed to feel that she let them down. Lucky her, he had nobody to call his own at the moment. Even if she was forgetful, she still had someone to call hers.
He perked up a little. "Hey, perhaps when you come back through next time, you can race me again." He have her an ear to ear smile, trying to brighten up her mood before she left on her way. "I'll be sure to practice." he said with a playful tease. He almost stuck his tongue out at her, but didn't feel it was necessary.

'You could come find me?' Dory suggested, swifter than she had wanted the sentence to come out but since the end of her relationship with Swafi she had gotten lonely for Soquili company..well male company at any rate. She had a few female friends because of mutual interests at the Village but no males, and her own sons didnt really count, she'd not seen those since they were old enough to strike out on their own.
'I mean, if you like racing.' she scuffed the ground with a hooftip, feeling rather as though he was the elder one around here.
'I like the sea..you can often find me there. Only if you want to of course!' she backed away a little, her nose wrinkling in a smile.

Vasu was caught off guard for a quick moment. She seemed to be generally interested in seeing him again some time. It was one thing to mention it, but to actually mean it, well, it was a first. A friendly smile cracked across his face. "Sure." he said with a tail flick. "I can't see why not. I'll hunt you down one day, and we'll have another race then." he said with a bit of cheer in his voice.
For the first time, Vasu felt like he had found a sincere friend. He had never been to the sea, and made a mental note to take a trip there.

Dory was very relieved when Vasu smiled back; even more so that his name slipped into the front of her mind with only the smallest of hesitations.
'I'd like that very much. Bye for now!' she called in a cheery voice, trotting off back towards the beach area, her errand at the Village completely forgot for the moment.

"Bye...Dory!" he stopped mid sentence, realizing she was going to complete opposite direction she had intended. He turned around to walk away, shaking his head and chuckling to himself. How funny that she forgot about the village. It was harmless though. Important enough, and she just might remember later.
