With a delicate little pout, Delilah slid off him and looked down at her trousers. "They're torn," she whispered. Delicately, she touched the ragged gap in the gauzy fabric over her knee. "Oh, no."

He sat up, a truly horrified look on his face. "Your clothes? Do you think your mother can fix them?"

"I... I hope so." She sounded a bit wavery and the pout lingered as she kept touching the tear. It looked rather like a surgeon prodding at a wound.

"Let's go find her," he said as he stood, offering her a hand up. Suddenly the scary attic didn't matter so much. Clothing was at stake here!

Gratefully, she accepted his hand and allowed him to pull her to her feet. She pulled her hand away again immediately, though, and attempted to set her hair straight. The turquoise waves had tumbled down from the upsweep and her tiara was crooked. "Mama's... She's at the fortune booth," she informed her would-be savior. "She's gonna look at me and ask what happened."

"We'll tell her that the haunted house attacked us," he said, fixing his own clothing as well, and patting off the dust as well as he could.
