Maui paused a moment. Sure enough a trail led to a specific destination, but as for what lay beyond or within that destination, Maui knew not. "Well, yeah---have you ever been inside those caverns? I have no idea whats in them, so....isn't that NOT looking for something specific?" she added, attempting to match wits. But after a moments thought---she figured maybe he was right. "What are you suggesting then?" she inquired, recognizing his sly grin to mean he had some sort of other plot in-conception.

"Well..."He said sliding down the side of the rock, his hooves making a rather unpleasant sound against the stone making him cringe. As soon as he touched ground he shook his head trying to remove the noise from his brain and remember exactly what he was going to say. "We're at the mountains and the mountains are...huge." He said nodding his head in either direction for emphasis. He circled around Maui and extended one wing to lay over her side. "Why don't we...leave the paths and just go?" He moved his wing forward slightly to nudge her a bit in the right direction before pulling away.
"We can find your caverns later once we're tired." With that said he started off carefully avoiding the large rock that made such a distasteful noise. It was up to her now. Either way she'd see her caverns eventually if they meant so much to her.

"So follow no trail? Just hoof it?" Maui repeated, trying to make sense of it. Wasn't that really dangerous? Maui paused, thinking things over. "Sure, why not?" she said slowly, not too sure of what she was actually saying. She followed in persuit, warily, but oddly made the sliding down the slope look like child's play. Once her hooves touched ground where Dark was she smirked. "The dawn always follows after the dark, so you lead the way" she proclaimed poetically, awaiting to follow him on his rag-tag no-trail adventure.

Dark felt a bit a jealousy towards the mare as she made her way down the rock quite gracefully. He supposed it made sense, after are mares were the fairer sex, but still. "Alright then off we go into the wilderness." He said with a smile tempted to through a joke of his name right back but decided against it. One of those was bad enough and every time a second joined in they could go on for hours.
Only a few yards into the rocky hills and Dark was already slightly regretting his suggestion. He'd pick one direction and head that way until he met some barrier. After the third boulder he was getting fed up. "You know what! We aren't getting anywhere." He looked back at Maui getting the feeling this would be easier with the use of wings. Turning back he circled Maui before nosing at one of her wings. The feathers were a bit cold from the temperature drop and a few in the middle layer were still slightly damp but that wouldn't hinder moderate use.
"How would you feel about some high jumps to help us get over these boulders?" He asked with a smile wondering if he should have mentioned that wings were needed for such high jumps.

Although secretly giggling slightly at every dead end that vexed the stallion, Maui followed in wake almost nearly silent the whole time. At the final dead end Dark met, he spoke to her. "High jumps?" she repeated, "I think I've managed that before. I can glide, run fast & jump high. The only issue I have is pure flight. Getting airborn was the big deal. Keeping airborn and landing are now not so much the problem."
Maui turned away from Dark to size up the third boulder now before them. "I should be able to get over it. Just need a fair running start" she concluded, looking back up into Dark's ruby eyes. "You want to go first, or should I go?" she asked, smiling.

Dark nodded adding high jumps to her list of winged skills. With everything she could already do he was surprised she wasn't soaring already. "I see, it seems all I really have to teach you is at what times to beat your wings so you don't lose altitude." He grinned. That was probably the easiest thing to get the hang of once instructed.
"Why don't you go first." He said with a smile before backing away slightly to give Maui the room she'd need. There were two reasons for this. The one she'd get if she asked was that if she got into trouble it would be much easier to help her from this side. The reason she wouldn't hear was that he just wanted to watch her jump. What could he say? He loved the female body.
"If you can't make it all the way over just land on top then jump down. I'll be right behind you no matter what."

"Oh---yeah, its the staying rhythmatic thing only. I'm quite sure" she added quickly after his commentary on why she couldn't fully fly. Enough said on the subject, Maui gave an enthusiastic nod at Dark's welcoming her to go first. "Yes sir!" she giggled, stretching her wings. Upon him giving her some clearance room she backed up. "Here goes nothin'" she replied, ever-cheerily. And with that she bolted towards the boulder. Kicking off from her hind legs, wings outstretched, she lept.
Imagine if you would the scene of an equestrian jump horse clearing three fence lengths in one graceful leap, but staying airborn much longer than any normal earthbound horse could. Maui cleared the boulder with ease, landing with a soft clunk of her hooves on the other side.
"Awaiting you now!" she called over politely, to let him know she was more than fine.

Dark grinned as a potential joke formed in his mind at her comment on rhythm. It was best left unspoken though as a moment later she was in the air and he had to make sure she didn't crash. He was stunned at her grace and the reoccurring thought of 'why isn't she flying yet' occurred to him once again. It didn't seem possible for one already so talented to not be able to have a decent wing beat.
"On my way babe!" He called unfurling his wings. He didn't need a running start like Maui had but he did need a good starting wind. He stepped right up next to the boulder and angled his wings slightly before giving a few powerful beats. In a brief moment he caught the wind and was airborne. The rush of wind in his face and mane was exhilarating but the thrill was over too soon. Looking down he could see the sunset on the ground and knew that he had to land.
High let a sigh escape his lips before descending. The company was more desirable then flight but being in the air for such a short time was torture for the stallion. It was like have the worlds most beautiful treasure presented to you on a plate of pure gold then snatched away the second you got a grip on it. Once he was firmly on ground he tucked his wings back safely to his sides. "Shall we be off?" He asked the cocky grin hiding any feeling of longing he had for the sky.

Maui gave an enthuasistic nod. "You bet" she replied chipperly. Her cheeriness now although was trying to hide that the cold mountain wind was chilling her quite a bit. She dare not let her teeth chatter; she didn't want to look weak. She turned around to face the trail with an ever-hiding smile when suddenly she come nearly nose to nose with none other than her troublesome half-sister, Bijoux. The mare jumped, clearly startled. "Dear goodness! Oh---its only you Bijoux" Maui heaved, heart pounding wildly in her chest from the scare.
"Only me?" repeated the newly appeared mare, her tone of vioce insulted. She was all black, wingless, with night blue eyes & purple at the ends of her identical-to-Maui's wavy mane & tail. Bijoux looked almost like a shadowy night version of Maui herself. "Not happy to see me Mau?" she faux wimpered, giving a dramatic pouty lip.
Maui nearly hiccupped. "No not at all Bijoux!" she replied quickly, not wanting to have offended her half-sister. "What are you doing here?" she asked, "I though you..." But before she could say anything further, her sister cut-in.
"Who's the handsome winged traveling companion you have aside you?" Bijoux asked, batting her eyes in a flirty manner as her gaze was now fixed upon Dark. She new Maui was seconds from giving a polite introduction, so she cut in once more. "I'm Bijoux" she said, nearing him. "And what are you called, you handsome devil you?" she continued.

Dark trotted a good three or four beats along behind the sunset mare more to get a good look at her then any safety purposes. A saint he was not but he found it didn't bother him in the least. He did jump when she vanished around a bend only to shout a few moments later. "Maui!" He cried darting around the corner his wings unfolded ready to attack whatever had startled her. He stopped his assault when her tone changed from scared to excited.
He tucked his wings back before taking a good look at what the white mare was talking to. It was another mare and quite a looker at that. Her coat was black as ebony with a speckling of purple along her legs and in her loosely curled mane. Her eyes looked like the stormy ocean and the two spoke like old friends.
"I'm Dark." He said bowing his head letting his feathered wings slide out presenting them quite gracefully. It was the first time a mare had initiated the compliments and flirting but there was no way she was going to outshine him. She had caught him off guard was all. "Good to meet you babe."

Maui was taken aback at Dark's equally as flirtive nature towards her always flirting half sister. She just stood, silent, blank...not knowing anything further to say or do. If there was one thing the mare didn't like---just one little pet peeve, it was senseless flirts. Both her mother, Paris & her half sister, Bijoux were senseless flirts. Was Dark one too? Could have fooled her... she thought.
"Ohohoho, so charming" she laughed, no where near as melodious or honest a laugh as Maui's always was. "Exellent to meet you too, Dark" she smirked, clearly she'd come with a previously well-conceived plot in mind. Bijoux cleared her throat and strode forward, bypassing her clearly puzzled sister and blocking her from view as she stopped before the stallion. "Why you spending time with the flightless bore?" she asked, staring Dark's eyes down confidently.
Maui's speechless expression quickly turned to an irked one, but with Bijoux in the way, she didn't think either saw---no maybe would care that this appeared to her as blantent set-up in which only she seemed to have a problem with.

"Ah she's not exactly 'flightless' babe." He said side stepping slightly before sending a smile Maui's way. One advantage he had over most was his height, it was very easy to move just right to keep everyone in his view without seeming suspicious. "I'm here as her companion, I'll be yours too if you like." He took a step closer to the dark mare looking down into her eyes. It could seem like a threatening motion whether he meant it that way or not. He'd done this before and it would always go one of two ways he was just curious how it would work this time.
After all he'd never been in this kind of position before. Sure he'd spent a lot of time flirting with multiple girls before but never with two with such conflicting personalities. Flirting with a fellow flirt required one charm while speaking with a kinder more innocent mare required a different one. This time there didn't seem to be a happy median.

Not in the least bit intimidated by any of the stallions might-be attempts to do so, Bijoux smirked. She'd thought to say that she thought Maui still to be a bore, but she wasn't intending to come off evil. That and deep down she was okay with Maui. Didn't agree with anything Maui ever said, liked, thought or did. But she didn't hate her half sister any. This all, less than apparently perhapse, was just her lust for attention and her jealousy that such handsome stallion was giving her sister companionship at the time.
"So---maybe she's not" Bijoux began slowly, "I assure you though that I could show you a better time." With that she winked.
By this time Maui was fuming. It suddenly didn't matter to her if Dark was or wasn't playing the fence to get both girls attentions or not. She was, for the first time, upset with her sister and of coarse, Dark. Maui bit her lip to fight back tears. She'd never had this kind of situation before and she didn't know what to do or how to appropriate handle it or reply. All she knew is she was hurt and mad.
"Howdareyousayyou'dbehercompaniontoo? She'ssuchaflirtandapparentlysoareyou! Ican'tbelievethis! Howdoyouthinkthismakesmefeel? Wait...whywouldthatmatter?!" she blurted out, not thinking nor caring if she made much sense.
And with that she took off running, almost out of complete sight in seconds.

Dark smiled letting out a soft laugh at the dark mare's words. He couldn't help believe that she probably could show him a good time. One a bit closer to what he had first envisioned when he first landed but he couldn't really just leave Maui. He had promised to teach her and he fully intended to keep that promise.
It didn't seem like he would get his chance though. Before he could really piece together what was happening the sunset wind was shouting faster then his ears could follow. He could make out the following snips of what she was saying: 'how dare you' 'companion' 'flirt' 'so are you' 'can't believe' 'makes me feel' and finally 'why would that matter'. As he was trying to put exactly what she was so upset about together she ran off.
"Hey!" He called after her abandoning any hope he had for piecing together that puzzle she had left him. "Hey wait! Maui!" He spread his black wings giving Bijoux a curt nod before taking to the skies to try and find the sunset mare. He didn't think it would be so hard after all she was white and everything else was black. After making several large circles around the area without a single sign of her he gave.
"Alright Maui." He called down hoping she'd be able to hear him. "You can stay in hiding but if you ever want to let me know what you were saying come find me." With that said and done he turned about to fly back to the village. He would probably never understand mares.
