Alphonse's heart was pounding in his ears now. He saw Roy roll onto the rug, landing in his transmutation array. "Oh no!" He yelped in horror. "General Mustang, get out of there! I already triggered the reaction to begin - if you get in the way now, something catastrophic could happen!!"

When Lust began to shake, Alphonse's eyes widened further. "What's happening?" He called out desperately, confused, hoping anybody would answer. His eyes widened, and the younger Elric brother was horrified at what he saw next – Envy had completely dissolved altogether, a huge green dragon Kitsusagi in his wake, lying in the exact same spot he had been.

“Did I transmute that...?” He squeaked, barely able to get the words out. “What did I do...?” The younger Elric brother was feeling a horrid sense of deja vu now. This was all going horribly wrong – just like last time. It didn't make sense though, what had he done wrong? Why was the circle crackling like this? All he had wanted to do was go back to the Gate and go through it. It had all seemed easy enough to do and ea, so why were things turning out this way?

"I... I shouldn't have done this!" He screamed at himself in his mind. "What am I doing?! What was I thinking?! I should have just left it alone!"

The youth was shivering now, both in fear, and because of the cold near gale force winds stirred up by the transmutation energy. When the all too familiar gate appeared, he cowered on the ground at the sight of it, feeling extremely small and insignificant in comparison.

When he was grabbed and pulled out of the way to safety, the younger Elric brother didn't even notice. He didn't notice the golden fog beginning to settle in on the area either. His attention was transfixed on the gate, his mind racing - all he could think about right now was that he had utterly, seriously, and completely screwed up.

Roy just laid on the rug, completely in shock, as he heard Al's words. He didn't know what to do. Several thougts were running in his mind, but one stuck out more than the others. 'Maes could be on the other side of the gate,' said a tiny voice in the back of his mind. Roy shook his head, his body shaking slightly. He didn't want to do rejoin Maes like this. He had a mate and a new life.

It was then that he felt his body being shoved out of the array and onto the forest floor. Roy gazed up and saw a vast gate. "Full Metal, what is that?" he asked in a commanding voice, indicating both the gate and the dragon.

While Envy was roaring in throes of pain, the weakness that had paralyzed Lust had rendered her completely silent. She was unable to do anything but stand there, barely, and stare with growing dread at the sight before her dark-red eyes.

The homunculus was barely aware of the mist that settled around them, mingling with smoke leftover from Mustang's flames and the energy from the transmutation circle. Whether the fog calmed her or not, she didn't know - all of the kitsu's attention was fixed on the Gate and the feeling of disembodiment that pierced through her core...just like last time?

Her struggle to stay standing gave way to unfamiliar exhaustion, and she collapsed just as the Gate doors began to swing open.

Fiendish eyes glared out into the realm of kitsusagi, wide and unmerciful as they focused on each individual.

One wanted to return Home. But he could not, not anymore.

Home would go to him instead. Home that had waited and wished for them both.

She felt like she was being pulled in two directions. There was her body going one way, and then something within being torn another. Was she dying? Images were flashing before her eyes. Horrible and amazing things...too much to take in.

Winry clutched whatever she was holding - she couldn't remember what, but hugged them to her for comfort - as she was dragged between worlds.

Black hands dumped a crumpled form before the Gate threshold.

They needed an exchange in return. The black hands reached out further, slithering over the homunculus before them.

They reached for one they were familiar with. An alchemist that understood the laws of equivalence.

Edward clung to his brother as he looked on at the chaos that was surrounding them. However, a familiar voice caused him to look upward. Golden eyes blinking in disbelief. She shouldn't be here! "LILY! GET BACK!" he shouted, not wanting her to get caught up in the transmutation. Edward tried to shield his brother, hoping that his mate would get out of the way.

Mustang's voice caught his attention and Edward ventured a glance his way, the wind blowing his hair about wildly. "The Gate of Truth! .. and... " looking at the dragon, something about it seemed familiar, "That's Envy... his true form.. I think!" The elder brother having to shout to be heard over the wind and the crackling energy. A terrified look came over his face as the gate opened. Something was dumped on the ground, although Ed couldn't really see what it was from his position. But those eyes... and the snaking arms, he knew all too well. That's when the powder descended over him, and when Edward should probably feel the most afraid, he was calm. His grip on Alphonse slackened a bit, and he watched as the arms slithered over Envy, what he thought they would have gone for. Instead they came right at him... whiping coiling around his neck, torso, and limbs. Edward let go of his brother, just before with a sudden jerk, he was pulled towards the gate.

His golden gaze went between Lilianna and Alphonse, but eventually settled on the form as he passed it by, clear recognition in his gaze, "Winry..." And then... he was gone, the gate shutting with a loud slam. Equivalent exchange, yes... he was very familiar with it.

She heard her mate's call and obeyed though her heart wanted to go to him. Flaping her wings the crimson furred witch gained altitude. Enough that he was still okay... hopefully her potion's fog would keep the homunculi from continuing their attack.

Wait... what? Coils. Her green eyes went wide. Coils... going for Edward... "EDWARD!!!!!!!!!!!!" Pulling him back into the gate... where those dark things were.... Panic. Dread. She was above the peace fog. It couldn't reach her, couldn't calm her... She could see his eyes... those golden eyes that haunted her heart and soul with their intensity...
"EDWARD!!!!! EDWARD!!!!!! Noooooooooo!!!!!!"

She started to dive. To get to him... No! Where had he gone? She backpedaled midair, keeping her distance as he had told her to, hot tears falling on those below in droves. A flick of her glance upon the new kitsu. Winry. He'd said. Tears fell harder. Winry was here... she could fix Ed's automail. Only... only where was her mate? "Edward... Edward... come back... oh please come back. I can't... I can't... Edward I can't live without you......." Then the thought, striking like a serrated blade into her heart. Her potion. Had he not been calm... would he have fought off those hands? Guilt settled upon Liliana like a shroud. Oh! What had she done?

Kitsyn reference.

A form clothed in red and black appeared, the bright red scarf tied around her head and neck announcing her identity to those who knew her. Which of those present remaining was only Lily. Kitsyn was tied to the openings and closings of the gates between worlds, she could see the pathways and sense the energy when someone from another world arrived. How could she not feel the Gate itself opening? She trod up and stood before the Gate, giving it a long, silent look. A silence broken by a quiet but authorotative statement.

"Open up. I'll trade for him. They've been through enough."

Kitsyn was, after all, a soul chimera of sorts; she didn't hold as many souls as a Pholosopher's Stone, no, but more than enough to trade for one young alchemist and his friends. Surely. It was a risk to offer... a great risk. There were a few of those souls that were parts of her whole self whose memories she cherished above all others. And if the Gate accepted she would have no say in what was taken.

But this was more important than even the most personally sacred of her dreams. "You know what I am, don't you?... You're part of why I'm here. Souls for souls, right? ...Please. Let him go."

Endless reference.

Endless had been with Kitsyn. They were out looking for Al after Atae's explanation... End had had a bad feeling about the rug after he'd found out, but it was a bit late by that point. After seeing the aftermath at least of what just happened... he was kicking himself.

He moved to stand by Al, giving Lily what was obviously a carefully prepared nuetral look. "It'll be ok, Lil..." He glanced at Alphonse and put a paw on the younger Elric's shoulder. He wasn't really sure what else to do at the moment...

"The Gate, the Gate! You wanted it to take you away... why don't you go to it now?"

That was the first thought that ran through the younger Elric brother's mind when he saw the huge doors. Even as he was being dragged away by his elder brother, he couldn't take his attention off the Gate doors, behaving a bit like he had been hypnotized, positively mesmerized by them. When the black arms snaked out of the gate and dumped Winry out onto the ground, he could only stare at her, blinking in disbelief.

"Winry? W-what are you doing here?" He was happy in that brief moment. "Is that really you? Did you want to come through the Gate too?"

"Brother, what's happening?!" He called out to him over the storm. "Winry's here now, that doesn't even make any sense! What kind of equivalent exchange is that?" When the Gate arms came for them, Alphonse lowered his head, eyes wide - assuming those horrible things were coming for him all over again. When they grabbed onto his brother, the horrid feeling he had grew exponentially.

"Brother!!" Alphonse hollered desperately, reaching up to grab at a paw or a leg, anything in a desperate attempt to pull him back. He yelled at the Gate arms, angry, upset, and panicked all at once. "Let him go! I'm the one you want, I'm the one who triggered the alchemic reaction! He didn't do anything, it was ME!!"

"Brother, COME BACK!!" He made a loud upset cry as his brother was yanked from him entirely, running along with him as he was dragged into the gate doors. Then, they abruptly slammed shut in front of him, and he winced at the loud sound, left standing on the outside of it.

“Give him back! I'm the one, you want!” Alphonse immediately demanded, punching the door with a pawed fist. “Give back my brother! He's the only family I have!!” When nothing happened, the dirty-blonde haired youth gritted his teeth hard, bounding away from the door again.

At Kitsyn's offer, he pinned his ears back. "No, this is my fault... I started this. I should end it, too..." He growled at the Gate. “So that's how it is, huh? You want it that way? FINE!” He kicked the rug aside in his desperation, picking up a rock. The Kitsusagi kept his head lowered as tears leaked from his eyes, also paying close attention to what he was doing now. He was mostly silent, apart from his upset sniffles, and began to draw another array in the dirt, beginning to draw his human alchemy transmutation array all over again.

Roy widened his eyes as he watched Ed disappear the thich doors of the gate and then he was gone. Biting his lip, he cursed angrily under his breath, realizing that he could have done nothing to prevent this. "Stupid," he muttered, ignoring the cries above him.

Shaking his head, he gazed over at Al and he narrowed his eyes, knowing exactly what the younger kitsu was doing. Camly walking over to Al, he sat down on his haunches, lifted a paw and swiped it across Al's face. "There is nothing you can do. He made his decision," he said to the younger alchemist sternly. "All we can do is either accept this...kitsu's offer for a trade or live our lives like we have done," he said, pointing towards Kitsyn with a gloved paw.

Winry Rockbell heard voices...familiar voices that she had known ever since her toddler years. She didn't think she would ever hear them again, but had always hoped and listened for them. But that didn't make sense, did it? Why would she be hearing them now?

...She was dreaming. That was it. Only logical explanation, since she'd been seeing a nightmare before that. Now it was time for a nice little dream. Even if the voices sounded frightened and confused in her subconscious, Winry didn't mind. She felt oddly calm and at peace, even after that nightmare. She didn't want the voices to go away. So, curling into a tight ball - barely aware that something didn't feel right with her body even as she unconsciously tucked a pair of angelic's wings about her - the girl squeezed her eyes shut tighter, daring to hope for the impossible.

Lust could only watch, transfixed as she was, as the black, writhing masses within the Gate suddenly spat out another kitsu, and took the Fullmetal. One soul for another certainly hadn't sounded like what the younger Elric had wanted to do...so what was all this about. After the scream overhead - though the sin paid little attention to that - and the Gate slamming shut and disappearing, she attempted to lift herself several times from the ground, with little success.

She felt...literally, half-dead. And if she had been this affected even after leaping out of the way of the transmutation, what had summoning the Gate done to her fellow homunculus?

The sin closed her eyes, oblivious to the new arrivals, one offering to trade a soul for the return of Edward's...but she could focus on little more than simply breathing and waiting for some sort of strength to return. However, her eyes snapped open to stare at Alphonse's yell, and she watched him begin to reinscribe the circle, this time upon the earth. Lifting her head slightly took too much effort, and after a few seconds, the female let it drop. Her gaze never left the young alchemist's form.

Softly, she uttered a few words to him, her tone grave, and yet holding the slightest strain of aloof mockery. "So, Alphonse...you've come up with a clever way of getting rid of us." She was referring, obviously, to the effects the transmutation had had on herself and Envy. If he used one of the sins - or both - to summon forth the gate again, it would kill them...if the too-still green dragon hadn't already died.

"I suppose you alchemists never do learn," she continued after a pause. "Every time you try to set things right, the situation only becomes worse..."

A small smirk suddenly appeared on her muzzle. It had been a good, if short, run at this life.

((Winry explanation: In case you're not be aware, I managed to custom Winry from Skie's last slots. n_n I'm currently waiting for her to arrive, but I thought it would be fun to introduce her now. <3))

]There was nothing but white... a white void, that Edward Elric knew very well. He's been here before, and seen the truth. The young kitsu sat within the void, blinking once or twice as the effects of the potion started to fade from him within this place, and he saw a white figure infront of him with a frightening grin.

"You're back again. Have you come for those limbs?"

Golden eyes widened and he choked back a startled gasp.

"No? Perhaps you want to be human again?"

He wasn't supposed to be here. Something had certainly gone terribly wrong with his brother's transmutation, but he had known that. Just didn't expect the outcome. He ended up recieving someone close to him, and then losing another. To get his limbs.. to be human again. As much as those desires tempted him, he shook his head.

"NO! I have to go back! SEND ME BACK!" He couldn't leave them, not like this. Lilianna still needed him, Alphonse still needed him... and Winry.. what of her?

"SEND ME BACK!"

The figure just grinned and then Edward saw nothing but a blinding white.

The Gate had stood there, still and silent, but it hadn't left. And some long moments after Kitsyn had made her request, the doors soon opened again. The black arms reaching for her to take what she had offered, before depositing another figure in a crumpled heap next to Winry. It was Edward.

Blink. Blink. Kitsyn? That was Kitsyn, wasn't it? And... "Endless?" The crimson furred female whispered incredulously. It was the first time she had seen him since telling the starry pelted male that she was leaving on adventure with Edward. She still loved him. She always would. Just -now she realized more than ever- not as she loved Edward. He had a forced calmness about him that had nothing to do with her potion. It reminded Liliana of how he had been in giving the book to her. Had anyone else told her what he did in her guilt and grief Lily probably would have attacked them in anguish. But not Endless. He said it... and she wanted to believe it was true; she almost could. She furled her wings like a glider and drifted into what remained of the fog, welcoming its magical calm and peace into her crying spirit as she landed between Endless and Alphonse. As if in a trance she touched her head to Endless' purple ruff, leaving large wet spots from her tears. Sorrow. Guilt. Gratitude. Apology. Helplessness. Her eyes a mute thanks for being there, pained happiness to see him again. She padded after Alphonse, not even seeming to see the Gate that still stood, its doors shut. Her tails hung lifelessly behind her, ears and wings limp against her crimson fur. Tears continued to fall silently from red rimmed eyes. A blink as Roy Mustang struck Alphonse's face. She did seem to hear the homunculus. Then she stepped up & nudged her shoulder with gentle force into the young alchemist's -deploying some of the training in martial arts she had learned- enough to make herself more than known, and not to be pushed aside. She tucked her crimson head beneath the blonde's chin, forcing it up and pressing her ear between the side of her head & his chest while standing along side him. "Alphonse... we're family..." Aching. Heartfelt. Compassionate. Offering & asking to join their grief, their support. Together.

In that pose her eyes flicked to the curled kitsu Edward had called Winry. A thought somewhere amid the pained feelings the magical golden fog would not fully calm and the magic of the fog itself she thought someone should go to her but could not bring herself to be the one. She needed to show Al she was there for him... needed to know he was here, even if his brother -her mate- was gone.

It was with odd nulled fear & anger that Liliana watched the Gate reopen, shivering as the terrifying hands appeared again snaking for Kitsyn. Zell would be hurt should it take her... A gold tipped paw started to step towards both Kitsyn and the hands, half thinking to ask it to take her wherever it had taken her mate. She had to be with him...

Whether it was logic, reason, sense of duty to her family, remembering Edward's command to get back & knowing he wanted her safe, registering what Kitsyn had offered... Liliana would never know exactly what kept her from following through with that request.
She caught his scent before she could see him around the coils of black arms. Her heart & hope leapt in her throat, hardly daring to dream. "Edward?" Disbelief. Hope. Love. Joy. A flash of her eyes to Kitsyn filled with incredulous thanks for that which she could barely understand. Then making sure Alphonse was coming too she moved to Edward's side, somehow wanting to make sure she did not come between them even now while unable and unwilling to keep herself away from the fullmetal. She would drag Al with her if he proved resistant. "Edward! Edward! Thank the Powers...!" Anguish. Relief. Love. Liliana felt she would explode from all the emotions coursing through her. It didn't matter. Edward was back. Safe.

She could never thank Kitsyn enough.
PostPosted: Wed Oct 10, 2007 3:28 pm

Kitsyn saw the doors open and she knew. She allowed herself a very quiet sigh of resignation as Edward was dumped on the ground beside her. She turned her head over her shoulder to look at Endless even as the black arms started coiling around her to take her through. "Look after them, End. I'm not sure how long I'll be gone. I'll see you guys sometime later." She gave them all, but especially Lily, a brief smile before the doors closed behind her.

Endless had tucked his chin between Lily's ears briefly when she came to him, and followed her when she moved first to Alphonse, and then to Edward. He gave Kitsyn a shaky nod at her parting words, knowing that he'd just have to trust she knew what she was talking about. He was utterly out of his depth, and seeing her disappear behind those forbidding doors he could imagine that he knew somewhat how Alphonse had felt when Edward was taken moments before; Kitsyn was "big sister" to most of the residents of the Place. A rock, a constant, something to rely on when the rest of the world seemed to be spinning out of control. He found himself praying silently that she wouldn't be gone too long; the Place would fall into utter chaos without her, and he only just now realized that.

Too late to try and make her change her mind. Not that he thought in the slightest that she would have. It wasn't in her nature to stand idly by in a situation like this. And she knew perhaps better than anyone the price that had to be payed for Edward to go free.

Lily seemed to be overwhelmed; she went to Edward. It didn't hurt much this time. He could get used to it. He decided to give Winry a quick check. Visual only; he didn't feel like it was his place to touch her. She seemed all right... physically, anyway. He felt sorry for the turmoil she was probably going to be in when she realized what happened.

And now... as much as he hated to interrupt Lily's moment with Edward and Alphonse, there were important things to do. Like get Ed, Al, and Winry somewhere safe. He padded over to the crimson furred femme and nudged her shoulder with his nose. "Lil... we need to get these guys out of here. Can you apparate them all or do you need to get some help? I don't trust Big Green over there to behave and stay unconscious much longer."

A respectful nod was given to Roy, part thanks for interrupting Alphonse earlier and partly a request to wait until the younger kitsu were out of danger. The homonculi didn't look like they were going to be up for a fight any time soon, but if they did try something Endless doubted his sparkly fur would do much to deter them. He turned back to Lily. "I think we'll be all right for a few minutes if you need to go back to your place."

Alphonse was only vaguely aware of the fact somebody was walking over towards his location. What were the different runes in that array again? His clouded mind couldn't quite remember them right now... he fumbled through his pocket, looking for the page of that book---

He was knocked back off his feet by the force of the strike across his face, flinching hard as his back thumped into the dirt. "With all due respect, General sir," He began, his weak, and breaking up as he spoke. He kept his attention downward, his bangs obscuring his face. "He made his decision... and I am making mine."

When Lust spoke to him, the blonde haired youth visibly flinched at her words and looked up at her, hurt. He regarded her with a glance for a few moments, silent, then turned his attention back to the ground. The new array was already ruined now, anyway. He reached out to rub out what he had begun, his paw shaking as he did so, and began again. Where was that book page? It would be of real help right about now.

"The situation wouldn't have become worse if nobody else had shown up..." He whimpered, sniffling. "I had everything under c-control until... until.. brother---" A loud sob choked up in his throat and he pinned his ears back, fighting hard to keep himself from crying, although he was fast becoming aware that soon he might not be able to help it.

His attention was turned to Winry, and somewhere in his mind he was positively elated to see the girl. His curiousity over how she had gotten here momentarily dulled his sorrow. He wanted to ask her all kinds of questions, such as how she was doing and what had happened since he had left. But instead, only one question seemed most pressing in his mind at that particular moment in time

"Winry?" He called out to her, trying hard to sound normal, and to fight down the sobs that threatened to ruin his composure again. "Are you alright?"

When Liliana moved over to him, Alphonse made a soft pathetic whimpering noise, his entire body seeming to go rigid and tense. What was she going to do? Would she be mad at him? Would she slap him like the General had done? His own dumb mistake had meant that she just had lost her partner in life, afterall. Alphonse stayed perfectly still - if Liliana wanted to beat the living daylights out of him and let him have it, then so be it.

When she put her head under his chin, the youth began to cry, unable to contain it any longer. He reached around her with gloved paws, hugging onto her hard, squeezing his eyes shut.

"I-I'm sorry!" He loudly whimpered inbetween sobs. "I didn't mean for this to happen!" He remained holding onto her for a few moments as he continued to cry, both wanting somebody's comfort, and wanting to comfort her, too. He could imagine how she must be feeling right now, if she was as close to his brother as he was.

When the Gate's creaking doors opened again, Alphonse jerked his head upright, his heart skipping a beat, hopeful and afraid at the same time. His attention was glued to the doors, his mind racing with all kinds of thoughts and curiousities about what could possibly happen next. Was it opening up to take him back afterall? If that was so, let it be so. The Kitsusagi boldly stood on his hinds, standing tall, scowling in determination, ready to face the black arms of the gate when he saw them coming. However, when they deposited another figure back down on the ground he could only watch, feeling panicked all over again. Who were they going to exchange for this one now?

Alphonse whimpered as they took the unfamiliar girl. A loud growl rose up in his throat and he loudly snarled at the arms as they took her away. "There you go again - you're a hypocrite! And just how is THAT equivalent exchange?! She didn't even do anything - she..." The youth stopped dead in his tracks. Even over the sound of his own yelling, he had heard what Liliana had said.

"Edward, where?!" He yelped suddenly in response. When the arms of the Gate had moved away from the elder Elric brother, he was already on all fours again, bounding over to be his side, fresh tears welling up in his eyes.

"I don't believe it..." He began, "But I don't care. You're back, brother!" Alphonse moved over his still form, giving him a crushing hug, and for that moment nothing would have convinced the younger brother to have let go. "Oh, brother, I'm so sorry... I'm glad you're OK. And Winry's here, too!" He turned his attention back to the girl, moving over to poke her elbow with the bridge of his nose. "Are you here to stay now, Winry? I hope so, there's a lot of interesting stuff to see here, and I've only been here a short time. We can all go exploring together or something, do you like the sound of that?”

In his happiness however, his thoughts returned to that girl that the Gate had taken, and he turned his attention back to it, his heart sinking again. "That poor girl.. I'm so sorry..." He whimpered at Endless, shaking his head. "Was she yours? I'm sorry... what's going to happen now...?"

Roy narrowed his eyes at what Al had to say. He didn't want to believe that Al would sacrifice himself for his brother. Turning his back on the younger Elric, he began to ponder what he could do to help Al, but not have him sacrifice himself to get back Ed. He didn't even notice that Lily had Al in her arms when he heard the creaking of the gate doors again. He snapped his head up and watched as the black arms deposited Ed on the ground beside Winry...wait, when did she get there? He did a double take as he saw Winry curled up on the ground. 'Great, another kitsu who will hate me,' he thought to himself, remembering what had happened to her parents many years ago.

He watched the arms grab the unknown kitsu and pull her through the gate. Was that what it meant for equivilant exchange? A life for a life? Roy shuddered, glad that he had stopped Al from sacrificing himself for Ed.

Slowly, he stood up and started to walk away from the group. He didn't want to be there when tongue started lashing at him. He didn't want Ed or Winry yelling at him for his past mistakes. It was best for him to leave then and there before he lost his own temper. "Alphonse, tell Ed I will talk to him soon...very soon," he said as he paused for a few seconds, gazing back at the younger Elric before continuing walking away from the small clearing, ignoring the scortch markings on the ground and trees that was caused by his gloves.
