'Oh I think we just get on very well, just a similar way of thinking of these things.' Adrienne said, giving a small wink.
'But I'd never want to speak for you, I like listening to you too much for that to happen.' I wish me luck as well. And I wish you'd get that I want to get to know you better because I think we could be that way. At least, I'd like to find out. she looked searchingly at Kale. How could somebody so wise be so clueless?
'I'd keep you warm then..' she found herself saying, without thinking it. Oh spirits, had that really slipped out of her mouth? Her nose coloured, and she tugged at her lower lip with her teeth.
'Kale I..' she tried to find a way to explain, explain the slip of her veiled thoughts. 'Kale, I find you fascinating, to speak to, to look at. You're warm, and you're witty, and I know we've only had these few hours so far, but I like you enough to know that I want to find out if we could be something. Beyond..friends.'

A chuckle and a nod of his head, "That is certainly possible, I can't say I dislike the thought of another having similar tastes as I," he responded easily, smiling at her.
He laughed again, shaking his head. He'd never been complimented so much in his life. Not even Marina had spoken in such a way very often, though he had always complimented her. He wasn't sure how to respond to it anymore without seeming to compliment or flatter her as a 'I'll mimic you so you aren't offended' response.
The warmth comment made him pause for half a second, and he was quite willing to turn it into some sort of joke--but she marched on, and he found himself staring at her, shocked at her bold approach. He even stopped walking for a moment, too surprised to remember to move.
He managed to mentally kick himself back into motion, but he didn't respond to her declaration immediately. He chewed on her words for a good long moment, trying to find some sort of reasonable answer which wouldn't offend her or drive her off. It wasn't as if he didn't feel a bit of the same while he was with her, she was sweet and darling and it was quite a pleasure to speak with her, but he was hardly the type of stallion she should go for! He was too old for someone like her, in reality he was probably too old for anyone.
"Adrienne..." He swallowed, "I....can't. You're young and beautiful, smart, kind and very sweet. I'm just an old stallion who's good for company at the moment. You deserve someone as young and lovely as you are, not some old grandfather who can't even manage to keep his first mate around long enough for the children to come out of their baskets." He shook his head again, "There are so many stallions out there who are better than me, and we barely know each other, you shouldn't think to chain yourself to the likes of me when a better match is out there waiting for you." His vibrant green eyes stared at her, hoping she'd understand.

Adrienne nodded thoughtfully, as though chewing the stallion's words over before speaking. She had known a little bit, had wondered if he might bring up the age thing again.
'No.' Adrienne said, her eyes sparkling, and she held herself in a poised manner as she spoke, looking directly at Kale. She was determined not let him ruin a good thing just because he had a few years on her.
'What do I have to do to show you what I see? If I could give you my eyes I would. I may be younger than you, but that's just numbers. This isn't some young mare crush that will slip away the next time I lay eyes on another stallion. I like you Kale, I think we could be something wonderful together.' she paused, quite worked up by now.
'Do you know that I've never met anyone like you? Do you know that I've not talked so much, or laughed so much with any male that I've met? Your age doesn't matter to me, because all I see is you Kale. Don't dismiss this because you think you know what I should have.'

"No?" He repeated, blinking at her, in a small state of shock. He thought he'd put up a good arguement, heck he'd pretty much given every reasonable reason for her to not try to be with him that he could think of and she was immediately shooting them down with equally reasonable responses. Ridiculous reasonable responses, but still reasonable responses.
He shook his head, more from disbelief than disagreement, "There are so many reasons..." He paused and cleared his throat, "To say that..." He trailed off shaking his head, "I don't know how to respond," He answered finally, a wane smile twisting his features, "I never anticipated something like this, I have no idea what to do. You are thoroughly disarming me in far too many ways."
The old black stallion sighed, wondering how he could possibly convince her that he wasn't good for her? Heck, he only thought of himself as not good enough because he was himself. Had he been someone else and had been able to view the situation from a different standpoint, he'd have smacked the other person on the back of the head. It was because he was himself and couldn't look at it from another viewpoint that he stubbornly insisted that he wasn't good enough. He just wasn't.
"How can I convince you...?" He mumbled, shaking his head in the slightest movement, "You parry any arguements I have, how can I give a reason that would help you see?"

Adrienne nodded firmly; 'No. I'm not letting you use the 'old' thing to try and dissuade me. Kale, I have never been more determined about anything. In my life.' she smiled, her whole face lit up as she looked at him.
'I like Kale, it's as simple as that. Can't you just let it, can't you just see what we could be together?' she shook her head at his latter comments.
'You can't because you cannot give me a proper reason. You're not old,' she stepped closer to him, her head raised as she looked him in the eye. 'You are wit, and charm, and I thought you handsome as soon as I laid eyes on you.' she touched his nose with hers and stepped one dainty pace back.
'You spoke of poetry, of someone to be with you for always. Can't you see that could be me? Let yourself be happy Kale. I know I could make you happy.'

"But I am old!" He replied incessantly, shaking his head, "Old and crotchety and a grandfather for pete's sake! I can't let you chain yourself to me when there are plenty of better--and younger--males out there. It wouldn't be right!" He shook his head, ignoring tiny voices in his head and plowing straight on.
And stopped as she continued, swallowing, and quite glad of his dark coat.
His nostrils flared at her touch, unconsciously sucking in her scent, but he remained where he was, staring at her morosely with his vibrant green eyes.
"What about yourself, then?" He asked, "What about making yourself happy?"

'No you're not,' Adrienne repeated again, all patience. She knew there was something there for him as well, 'it wasn't right' meant that it was something he had also thought about.
'And so what? You're obviously not afraid to be committed to someone, and that is another reason I like you.' she returned his gaze, looking at him and trying to show him just how serious she was with her every expression.
'You've really not been listening have you? I think we could be something wonderful. And that would make happy. Please Kale, just give it a chance? Because if you toss this aside, put me aside because you think it's what is 'best' for me. That would make me unhappy.'

Caught between a rock and a...well, he had no idea what place.
He was losing this battle, that was quite clear even to him. What could he do, though? He was dealing with all of his previous notions and plans for the rest of his life going up in smoke. What was he going to do now?
Had he fingers and arms, he probably would have been rubbing at his temples. There was no way out of this, and to his surprise he found he didn't really want to find a way out of this. It was ridiculous, both for him to be experiencing this and for her to even be interested (let alone so adamant).
"...You realize I've never been in a relationship like this before, right?" He asked finally, he gaze transferred firmly to any area other than her. He felt like such a colt now, "I'll probably have no idea what to do half the time." He shrugged helplessly, "You may find yourself exasperated with me rather quickly."

Adrienne waited quietly, just watching him. What were the next words out of his mouth to be? Would he continue sputtering on about their age difference, or would he accept that wasn't just going to let what could be a great thing slip through her hooves. She didn't want stupid, youthful stallions, more obsessed with bagging as many mares or just generally acting childish. She wanted sense, maturity and wisdom. Adrienne wanted a relationship, not a fling that might leave her alone with children.
When he did finally speak, he managed to surprise her greatly; 'A relationship like what? I have a mind and a heart, and they are both working in sync. I could have just batted my eyelashes at you, but I doubt that would have worked.' She shook her head. 'Do? I'm not a huge expert myself Kale. You do what you have done with me, you be yourself. That's who I like. That's who I want. And I promise, we might well get annoyed with each other, but I'm damn well not walking away from this. I like you Kale.' she grinned. 'Big silly.'

He shook his head at her words, a wry smile gracing his expression, "I apologize for sounding so..." He grasped for the correct word, considering 'idiotic' for a moment, "...pathetic," he answered finally, "I am unused to even speaking of these relationship; I'm afraid my previous relationship left me with more questions than solutions toward what to do."
He glanced at her, a sheepish tilt to his expression, "To be entirely truthful, I was--and am, I suppose?--afraid that you were expecting me to know quite a bit more about such relationships than I actually do." He chuckled at his own words, "I suppose it's just the old sage in me quavering at the thought that I might not live to your expectations in knowledge or otherwise."
He gave her a mildly dramatic offended look at 'Big silly', "If I'm a 'Big silly," He rumbled, tail twitching, "Then what does that make you?"

'I'd not call you that, or even think of you that way Kale. That makes me even more determined to see that we spend time together, to find out just how good we can be together. You should have had affection, and friendship. And love,' Adrienne said softly, she would speak of it, but not express it. She knew she felt strongly for the stallion, but there was time enough ahead of them to know when or if that feeling would develop. Though she had inkling that it just might.
She shook her head; 'All I expect from you is to be yourself.' she smiled. 'Oh, and to not shy away something good. You're allowed to be happy Kale. Really,' she repeated those words firmly and she grinned at his expression.
'Yours if you'll let me,' she flashed him a cheeky look, and trotted onwards, still heading towards the Lake area.

He listened, green eyes watching her as she spoke, and finally widening in surprise and feeling the urge to sputter or choke. It wasn't in a negative sort of reaction to her words, he simply hadn't expected such a bold...statement to actually pass her lips. In fact, her entire statement had made him pause in his steps for a moment, the cheeky look helping not a single iota. She'd managed to get several steps ahead of him before he recovered enough to realize she was in front of him. "Hey!"
He picked up his gait, quickening his stride to catch up to her, chuffing once in a testament to his marginal displeasure at being left behind; a mostly unconscious set of actions. He resumed his former place by her side, but lapsed into a silence for a few moments before coughing a bit, "That was..." he began, feeling his face heat a bit at the clear rememberance of her words. Such a bold statement, and such a terrifying concept, he really had no clear respense for her. He certainly didn't think that whatever feelings they make currently be experiencing warranted such a set of words.
"You never cease to surprise me," He said finally, shaking his head, "Will I ever be able to anticipate what you'll say next?"

'Yes?' Adrienne turned her head at Kale's 'hey', but didn't slow her pace, and she didn't have to for he had soon caught up with her again.
'It was?' Adrienne quirked a brow, before chuckling. 'It's nice to keep you on your hooves, besides,' she turned fully, walking backwards for a bit. 'You are so very cute when you're flustered.'
She faced forward again, and continued with; 'Maybe? Once you get to know me, and once you realise that I am speaking the truth about everything. I do like you and it's not a passing phase. And you'll see that one day soon.'
Adrienne silently added to herself I hope! She was ever so determined not to let Kale walk away from a good thing, repeating positive thoughts in her head so that she keep her own hopes going as well encouraging him to think in a similar way.
'Oh look, we've reached the Lake,' and indeed they had, the large expanse of water was laid out before them, the sun sparkling on the surface.

The old stallion snorted, green eyes rolling a bit at her feigned innocent comment, "It certainly was--" He paused, staring at her for a moment in astonishment, once more quite grateful on his dark coat; how shameful would it have been for someone to see the odd color he would have turned otherwise.
He recovered enough to heave a bit of a sigh, his head moving back and forth slightly in disbelief at her words. She was so determined, ridiculously so. Had he had such notions about a mare and had been given so many reasons as to why it simply wouldn't work, he'd have given up.
That was a lie. He truly had no notion of what he would do should the situations have been reversed. 'I would have put a little less pressure and self-assurance on her at least!' he thought idly, glancing at her from the corner of his eye.
"We have," He confirmed softly, slowing a bit to watch after her. Despite his adamant refusal to acknowledge anything, despite all of the facts and reasons to discourage her, she still maintained her stance on the matter. He hadn't met a mare like her in a terribly long time and, despite his own chagrin at his thoughts, he had to admit that she was a refreshing sort of change.
Perhaps...

Adrienne wasn't going to speak of it further for now at any rate. The sight of the calm water ahead of her cleared her own thoughts, and she stood looking out across it, breathing peacefully. No, what she would do now was to simply prove her point with her actions, and their interactions, so that one day he would turn around and just know that the right mare was with him, and had been for quite some time.
'Yes,' she turned her head to look at him, smiling with her eyes. Was this a good point to part for the day? She certainly must have given him plenty to think on, and she would like to take the time to talk things through with her mother.
'It's been quite a day.' she commented, looking beyond the Lake, to where the sun was slowly travelling towards the horizon.
