You won't have eyes tonight. You won't have ears or a tongue; you will wander the underworld blind, deaf and dumb... ...yeah, I'm still skeptical about trusting other people's (especially online) interpretations of 'paranormal' events. Hell, I don't even trust my own mom's interpretation when she says she's seen a ghost. Just like I don't trust any old random scientist when he comes up with a new breakthrough just because he has a PhD, I listen to what other people say about his breakthrough, and if I can understand it, his own research, and then come to a conclusion. ...and all the dead will know: this is Hector, fool who thought he killed Achilles.

Interesting.
I'm kind of on the neutral slope unless something triggers my bs-o-meter. I read the first few lines completely without judgement, merely gathering facts, until I got to the part about soul attaching demon. My BS triggered hard enough to knock me out of my lackadaisical reading.
I scrolled up and stared at the name for a moment. Nope, the track record for Sub is not prone to over the top recounts to make himself appear to be an unbelievable adept or such a bright and shiny that the world of the unseen is drawn to him specifically to do him harm.
Ok. Continue reading and gather information. Point A, the detailed recount, I can't disprove it faith, but it does not equal the conclusion. There is faulty logic or missing information at hand.
I trust first, then go up to respect or on BS alert based off of track record. Quote a la Andi "I share my failures so you know my successes are real." Keeps me honest.

Baron von Turkeypants Khalida Nyoka I cheated. I read the responses before the first two posts. However, I would have not have believed it to begin with. As is my way, I would have suggested remedies that were mundane, and remedies that were paranormal. I've heard a lot of the stories some people say... and I can not trust a person without reason to. Part of it is time I've known the person, and part of it is that li'l BS-detector in my head... if it sounds highly implausible then it's going to set off the BS-detector, no matter who it is. That said, I am always willing to admit to the possibility of being wrong (less likely to when the person I'm speaking to will not admit they might be wrong, if that statement makes sense). You won't have eyes tonight. You won't have ears or a tongue; you will wander the underworld blind, deaf and dumb... So what's an example of something 'paranormal' that isn't highly implausible? ...and all the dead will know: this is Hector, fool who thought he killed Achilles. I suppose I meant "more plausible than the situation described." Or I meant the same sort of basic suggestions other people make. Different ways people believe in "purifying" things, or in "protecting" things/themselves. Most people in the guild who will "buy into" this sort of thing, all seem to agree on a certain set of basic concepts. Those basic concepts are then what I suggest. Things like "shielding" or "banishing" for example. All are highly implausible, granted, but there is a strong potential for psychosomatic effect. more often than not, I'd say, that is the real goal anyway.

That reflects my belief that the guild should become a little more tightly knit. Modesty and respect are good policies to handle, and if people try to get more involved in the guild, it kind of catches on. As for the faulty logic, I wanted to make a jump at something in order to reflect the "lie" part of it. Well, it all was a lie, I mostly wanted to write a story with a supernatural theme that could be believable, with the twist at the end to show the types of things that I was trying to reflect. Usually; the things I see skip the detail in general and go straight to the jump.
"I am/have..." "More than human/something "different" from normal people..." "My proof? Um...yeah...*mumble*...someone awesome told me...or something..."
If you don't have proof, if you've only shared this with your greatest [probably like-minded] friends and then post it here, well... Do what Nookie Monster did, for example. She has stated earlier in this thread that she lurked a lot before posting. I myself still lurk from time to time. At least get to know the people. Think about how their natures are alike or different to your own. Try to understand their point of view. No, now isn't the time to strike and reveal your true nature as the world's only true Vampire-Demonkin, this is where you take a strange experience that you aren't really sure about, and talk about it. Make friends here. Be friendly. It makes the ones with real problems less shy, I think, and makes way for true words and emotions. Magick. /romanticism
Your last words are good advice, Andiela. And excuse my rambling, everyone, especially if I'm sounding like a broken record. >.<

Quote: So what's an example of something 'paranormal' that isn't highly implausible? >.< dman you baron i couldnt quote from your message becuase your avitar was in the way... anywho, a pretty plausible 'supernatural' thing is using telekinesis to move a psiwheel type thing. i do it all the time, but ill tell you its nothign special. its not technicaly "supernatural"... realy its just biolectricity. in situation i do it, its moveing tinfoil, which is a metal... and its on top or a metal thing to hold it up... so realy its plausible and "paranormal".... unless we get technical.

Okies, first off I wanna say kudos for having this discussion.
I admit, I fell for it at the beginning because I had seen enough of your posts that you normally don't do the "ZOMG!" stuff. My beliefs got a lil' shaker when you started going on about how your arm would "hurt" other people, etc. etc. Still, it was pretty convincing at first.
Well played, MacLeod, well played.
To go along with other bits of the discussion, I honestly think that more group discussions would be a great idea. I'm not very good at IRC stuff, but Blkcat's voice chatting server was frickin' awesome! Having discussions would stop some of this arguments from sounding so...vicious since I doubt most of us are as mean as we're coming off as. It also (maybe?) will put a stop to the phenomena which I call "angry pm because you brought up a good point and I can't counter it in guild forum so I'll just send you 3-4 whiney angry messages that serve no purpose but take up room in your mailbox"
Sorry for the tangent all, I had just noticed I had gotten 3 such messages from some "psychic" boy who I must have responded to on some forum on gaia...can't remember where, honestly. rolleyes
Did he provide any valid points to the discussion? Nope, just called me ignorant and told me how powerful he and his grandma were....srly.
Behavior like that would hopefully not happen as much cause in real time chat, you have to know where you stand in a debate cause its coming at you fast. That and if you made dumb comments like in the messages I received, you'd get rofled at. A lot.

Your last words are good advice, Andiela. And excuse my rambling, everyone, especially if I'm sounding like a broken record. >.< Yes. Your first sentence is exactly what I've kind of been beating around... As stated again, I'm new. There are lots of people here. I've yet to see anyone making "ZOMG!" statements like iolitefire mentioned. But a close knit group I also don't see. Some good friends here and there, yes, and this gives me hope about sharing things online. But can we get such a desired close knit group? Following your advice, Subrosian, would be a start, but I think you and I know the close knit group we want isn't quite a viable option yet. Or I could be wrong, I don't want to speak for someone else... sweatdrop I don't want to have to be a skeptic to any one person (different from being skeptic of ideas!); that's all I'm trying to say. That's why I posted, that's why this topic is important to me. And so far that want is satisfied. 3nodding

You won't have eyes tonight. You won't have ears or a tongue; you will wander the underworld blind, deaf and dumb... Tightly knit, eh? Well if anyone's in the bay area of California, I'm down for some ouija'ing or tarot carding or spirit summoning! ...and all the dead will know: this is Hector, fool who thought he killed Achilles.

Interestingly, it's both. It's as if it's Schroedinger's Map or something.

Yeah, I tried to put myself on it but it didn't work. Do we have just a stickey list of people and their location?
(I live near San Diego; what's considered the "bay area"?)
