Her words passed into his ears, and Quetzal puffed out his chest, feeling more valiant, despite the growing fear panicking his brain.
"Stories..." he started, trying to tame the quiver in his voice, "Stories will always have a happy ending. The hero may not always survive, but the evil will always be vanquished."
He wanted to charge, he wanted to attack, and defend his companion and his Lady. To fight for both of them, to succeed victorious. But those sharp horns and even sharper fangs attached to the monster before him showed little hope. What did he have to defend or attack with? Hooves, flat teeth... nothing compared to this monster.
Letting out a high whinny, he reared back and kicked his front hooves in the air, before charging, running aimlessly towards the taunting green dragon.
Paco had no idea this would be that adventure they would take Lady Eydis on! His beady eyes turned back to glance at the pair he left behind, and he gave a mournful stare back at his typically confused friend. How would Quetzal manage to fight against such a horrifying creature?
He continued to direct the Lady Eydis and himself out of harm, but his mind was filled with worry. What would he do if Quetzal was killed? And worse, what if the dragon decided to come for the Lady Eydis afterwards?! Paco was given a mission to protect her, but how could one little buffalo stand up against a dragon?!

"We should go...." she said as she ran, looking to her left and her right for a safe path to follow. "THIS WAY!" Eydis steered her body sharply to the right at a full speed run. She had turned so quickly she barely looked at what was infront of her. A large tree with a thick bark stood before her. She tried to manuever herself toe swerve around it, and succeeded, but found her body rushing deep into a large bush. "Oops!" she shouted, her body trapped in the bush completely. "Paco! Help me!"
Not too bad of a heroic monologue. She personally found her diabotical villain pre-battle monologue to be much better, but the stallion's wasn't all that bad. It had meaning to it. Just none of it was true.
The stallion was charging towards her pretty quickly and the dragon smiled. It was all coming together now, finally there'd be some real action. In a rush, she mustered as much heat as she could in her throat and let out a flame down against the ground, trying to block his path. It was a short flame that wouldn't last long, but hopefully would deter the stallion.

The flame came out so quickly, Quetzal's mind struggled to be quick enough to tell his body to stop. The heat from the fire was overwhelming, and his front hooves skidded to a stop, sending him toppling forward onto the ground with a grunt.
Somewhat embarrassed and very much still wary of the enemy standing before him, Quetzal was quick to return to his feet, and gritted his teeth in return. "Why don't you return from the bowels of Hell that you came from, demon?!"
Paco had mindlessly turned and followed the Lady Eydis (after all, she seemed much more intelligent than his own dim little mind, from the way he figured it), but hadn't made it quite as far as the mare in regards to the bush fiasco.
Wide eyes stared in alarm as he watched her struggle to free herself from the thorny captive. Not knowing what else to do, he searched about for a limb, a tail, anything visible, that he might be able to pull on to free the hostage princess.

"Aw, you think I'm a demon from hell," Gwee said with a sincere smile. The stallion was flattering her. "That's sweet, I think I may that as a compliment, you bumbling fool. Do you really think someone moronic as yourself with save your little mare-friend?"
Gwee jumped foward towards the stallion as she snapped her toothy jaws at him in attempt to get a bite out of him.
She felt a slight tug at her dreamcatcher necklace, it was caught on something from behind her. She wasn't sure whether it was a twig of the bush or part of Paco, but she continued to try and fight her way out of the bush. She felt another harder tug at the necklace and it began to choke her.
"Hckkkk," she gagged, thinking she couldn't breath at all, yet was fully able to. She fought away from the whatever had held her necklace as the twigs of the bush began to break rapidly from all of her fidgetting. It wouldn't be too long before she would escape, but she felt some of the sticks scratch against her skin, luckily nothing too deep or painful.

He whinnied in distress as he felt sharp teeth dig into his shoulder, and the stallion wrenched away as best he could, unsure whether or not he was strong enough to pull away from the monster's grasp.
"Though shall not hurt the innocent, fiend!" he hollered out, his mind racing with what to do next. He had nothing to fight back with... flat teeth, no horns on his head... HIS HEAD! That was it!
Grunting, he swung his head forward, prepared to headbutt whatever came within reach. He wouldn't go down without a fight, that was for sure!
Paco heard her struggling gasp, and immediately let go of whatever he had been holding onto with his mouth.
"DARN BUSH!" he yelled at it, feeling his small sombrero fly off as he struggled to stand upright, confused and frustrated that he couldn't figure out what to do.

Gwee swung her head away from where she had bitten and prepared to let out a fiery breath. However, there was an unexpected surprise. The stallion had managed to actually come to contact with her! He had headbutted her right in the side, causing her to stumble and lose her balance. She stumbled a bit away from him and gasped in shock.
Unfortunately for Gwee, the gasp caused the flame she had prepared to come out, leading the flame straight into her hair!
"s**t!" she muttered, shaking her head vigorously trying to stop her hair from burning more than it was. She tried stomping at the tips of it, not paying attention to the stallion. She was far too focused on getting out the flame.
"HELP ME! Help me! Help me, help me, help me!" she shouted as she shook her body in the bush. The twigs and sticks holding the leaves of the bush together fell apart, nearly completely her from the bush. Eydis failed to notice. "HELP ME! Help! HEL--"
"Oh," she said, realizing her freedom from the bush was so very near. She stepped out of the bush slowly, thinking any sudden movement would get her caught in it again. Once she had managed to fully step out, she ran around in a small circle of joy. "Yay! Thank you so much Paco! You were a hero to me!"

Quetzal was soon to realize that not every fight was to be won.
Taking the opportunity that had arisen from the kalona paying heed to her own self, the colorful stallion made an about face and started dashing off in the other direction. He knew now that he didn't stand a chance against this green dragon, and he'd be virtually useless to both Paco and the Lady Eydis if he managed to get himself burnt to a crisp.
Unaware of where the other two had fled to, Quetzal made his exit in the nearest wooded area he found, his breath short from the running. With any luck the other two would be safe, and they could reunite once again after a while.... that is, if the dragon didn't try to follow him, of course!
Paco plopped his rump down on the ground and stared at the mare, still quite confused, but relieved that she was alright.
"You're... welcome?" he answered sheepishly, though in his mind, he hadn't thought he had contributed any help at all.

Gwee stomped on the final flame at the tip of long hair that fell to the ground. After a moment of holding her hoof on it, the flame seemed to disappear. She flung her head back to look ahead of her, not lifting her hoof causing her hair to be pulled. She let out a scream of pain and lfited up her hoof, taking a step back.
Looking around her...she saw nothing. Crap. Where had that stallion gone to? This day was no fun for her. All that time, all those troubles, all for nothing. Bleh, Gwee hated when her efforts were useless.
"I'll find you one day! And when I do, I'm going to make you pay!" she screamed into the nothingness of the empty forest. Disappointed, she flew off into the sky, heading home, hoping for a better day tomorrow.
"Don't be so modest Paco!" she said, commenting on his tone. He seemed as if he didn't think he was any help at all! Eydis was convinced she would still be stuck in the bush had Paco not helped her escape its hold. "I don't know what I would have done without you!"
Eydis paused, her eyes darted around. She wondered if Quetzal was alright, if he was able to fend off the Kalona. She grew concerned, everything had been so tense.
"Do you think Quetzal will be okay?" she asked Paco.

Quetzal winced as he heard the vicious creature screaming out, and he felt his ears flatten. He had been standing behind one of the multitudes of trees in the forest, and he watched the angry demon swoop off to no doubt find some other poor victim to toy with and destroy.
He felt ashamed for running away, but at least all three of them had made it out safe and unharmed, for the most part. He winced again, but this time due to the sharp pain stinging him from his shoulder. The demoness's bite had dug deep, and he'd no doubt scar from the wound. It needed to be cleaned up, but he refused to tend to his own needs until he was sure that the Lady Eydis and faithful Paco were safe. Hopefully that dragon hadn't found them.
Now concerned with THAT fear, he left the forest's protection and started frantically searching for the duo, his eyes wide with worry.
His small ears perked up at the compliment, and he rose to retrieve his fallen sombrero. Perhaps he wasn't such a bad sidekick after all!
Shaking his head after returning his hat to his head, Paco shrugged, nervous.
"I'm not sure... do you think it'd be safe to look for him, Lady Eydis?"

"I think we should look for him, just to make sure that he is alright," she said with a nod. She was too worried about him to not look for him, even if that meant she would be placed in the line of danger.
"We should move quietly though, we don't want to draw too much attention on ourselves," she said. She began to walk slowly and quietly, but her heart was racing too fast for her to walk at such a slow pace. She instantly increased her pace to a slow jog as she went to find her brave knight.

Quetzal's speed increased as he searched the surrounding areas. They couldn't have gone far without being noticed, with all the open land available, so he stuck close to the forest's edge, hoping they didn't delve too far into the tall wooded area. Knowing his trusty Paco, they'd no doubt be safe, but hopefully close by.
"Right!" he nodded, agreeing with her suggestion. Making sure to stay by her side, he started off, unsure of where exactly they should be going. "I hope he gave that mean 'ol dragon what was coming to her!"
Of course, he was only trying to reassure himself, for he knew a plain horse like Quetzal had nothing but misplaced bravery when it came to the dangers of a kalona and the like. Hopefully he wasn't hurt too bad... and who knew? It was minuscule, but there always could be the chance he fended off the predator.

"Remember to stay quiet," she whispered with a nod as she jogged. Her pace increased. She was running. Then she was sprinting. Then she was sprinting and screaming. "QUETZAL! QUETZAL!? WHERE ARE YOU ARE YOU OKAY!?"
She stopped running and continued to scream for him, hoping he would find her from her loud screams. She then paused from her screaming, her voice and throat feeling tired from the yelling. She then whispered once more, "Careful not to be too loud though, we don't want the Kalona finding us."
"QUETZAL!!!!"

His ears perked as he heard a loud screaming in the distance. It sounded like the Lady Eydis, but... not as proper as she had been before? Which could only mean one thing.
She was in trouble.
"EYDIS!" he hollered back, temporarily forgetting formalities as his own legs because to increase with speed, despite the growing agitation of his shoulder, "EYDIS! PACO! CAN YOU HEAR ME?!"
Paco had started attempting to tip-toe about, scared the dragon would hear should he start walking, when he nearly wet himself in shock at the Lady Eydis' sudden scream. He most definitely hadn't expected her to yell so loudly, so once the buffalo got over being startled, he too joined in to the chorus of screaming.

She heard the voice of her brave knight calling out to her. She smiled, hoping to find that he would be okay when she saw him. He was able to scream to look for her, which must mean he was all right! Right?
"QUETZAL! WHERE ARE YOU?" she screamed, moving towards the sound of his voice. She turned to Paco, who was also screaming. "Paco, what did I just tell you about screaming? Don't be so loud! ...QUETZAL! CAN YOU HEAR ME? ARE YOU OKAY!?"

Startled once again by her sudden turn towards him, Paco immediately shut his mouth. No sense in getting them in more trouble with the dragon! Beady little eyes searched the land around them, while he let Eydis do the calling. Off in the distance, he spotted a blur of colors that seemed to be... hobbling their way?
"Lady Eydis!" he called, quickly forgetting that he was supposed to be quiet, "Lady Eydis, look over there!"
He had spotted the exotic beauty and his trusty buffalo nearly a mile away from where he was. His running had slowed down to a limping trot, his shoulder now throbbing in pain from the bite. Could that serpent have poisoned him?!
It didn't matter now, though. Lady Eydis and Paco were both safe and unharmed, and that was what was important to him first and foremost.
"M'lady!" he called, overjoyed to see them both scratchless. Or at least, he assumed they hadn't been harmed. It was hard to tell when the flowered beauty and the sombrero'd sidekick were mere dots in his vision. Nevertheless, he journeyed onward, wanting reassurance that indeed, everything was now alright.
