Long colorful legs marched regally through the field, his head held high as an array of curls gently swung back and forth, flowing in the breeze. It was a good day to be alive, and he wanted to share it with the world.

Shorter, stubbier legs happily traveled alongside the proud stallion, his poncho tips flailing behind as he attempted to keep up with the horse's pace.

"Paco, little amigo, what shall we do today?" The colorful being questioned, stopping his trot suddenly. "I feel the need for... adventure!"

Small beady eyes rolled as a grin spread across his face. He knew it was inevitable, it always was. "Whatever you say, sir." He nodded respectively. No matter what his answer would be, Quetzal was Quetzal, and they'd no doubt find something to entertain themselves with in the minutes to come.

The tropical princess walked diligently towards the field, hoping to find somebody to admire her. She always loved it when she was admired, treated like the princess that she really was. Of course, her title hardly mattered to most Soquili in these lands. But it still mattered to her, and that's what was important. What Eydis thought was important was always more important than what anyone else thought.

Unfortunately, she hadn't been paying attention to her surroundings well enough and stepped onto a hollow log. Not just any hollow log, but one filled with a horde of hornets. The hornets flew out of the log and spun around Eydis. It took her a second to realize what had just happened, but as soon as she did, she began to scream.

"Help me! Somebody help me!" she cried. She didn't know much about these hornets, she was worried they would be able to kill her! "I'm in danger! I'm a princess in danger! Somebody help!"

The patterned head jerked about as he heard the feminine scream. Ears perked, nose snorted. He held his breath, listening closer. What was that? A princess in danger? No mere damsel in distress, needing a stallion's bravery and aid. But a Princess!

"PACO!" he nearly shouted, "Did you... did you hear that?! Now's our chance!"

Without another word, or to wait around to hear what his comrade had to say, the stallion bolted off in the direction of his voice. The female voice was in need, and he must honor his knightly stallion's duty!

Eyes widened as his own tiny ears heard the scream. Never had there really been any trouble! What was Quetzal.. what was HE going to do?! They'd never had to go through THIS before! Anxious and worried, the buffalo trailed quickly after the horse, doing his best to keep up. Who knew what was going to happen?

Eydis smiled when she noticed, beyond the thick group of flying hornets, a bright stallion rushing towards her. Surely this must mean that he was coming to save her! A hero was coming to save her! The stallion was a hero, he was ---

Her face of delight turned into a mortified expression. Her jaw dropped, her eyes widened and began to feel wet. A sharp pain came from her rear. A hornet had stung her right on her bum. She let out a loud crying scream of pain and began to gallop towards the stallion, with the hornets flying right after her.

"Help me! HEEEEEELLLLLP!" she screamed as she began to run around in large circles, hoping to escape the mean hornets. After every few steps, she would feel another shockingly sharp sting on her rear, only causing her to scream louder.

His own green eyes widened considerably as the vibrant beauty covered in flowers came racing towards him. So this was the fair maiden in need of assistance? But what was she running from?!

His eyes narrowed and he attempted to peer further in the distance. It seemed like... like some invisible creature was attempting to claw off her backside! How dare it!

"Run, m'lady!" he hollered out, determined to get between her and this invisible monster full of intentions most foul. "Run to my noble squire... he shall assist you while I take care of this unworthy adversary!"

Brown cloven hooves immediately halted as the faint buzzing sound grew louder and louder. Right from the start, Paco knew what had happened. The pretty mare must have landed herself into quite the nasty bee's nest, to cause something as loud as this!

Hearing his companion's words, Paco glanced about, attempting to find a safe haven for both this frantic mare and his short pudgy self. To his left, not far off in the distance, lay a quiet stream, which seemed deep enough for a stallion or mare to take a dip in.

"Lady, follow me!" he called out to the distressed blonde, beginning his own travel towards the flowing waters. No doubt his short self couldn't keep up with the mare's pace, so it'd be best he get a head start, and they'd both worry about Quetzal after they took care of themselves first. After all.. Quetzal had entrusted her care to Paco, and the tiny buffalo knew better than to go against whatever his commander said, no matter how foolish it may seem!

He glanced back at the stallion, and shook his head. There were days when Quetzal could seem like... a regular stallion, and then there were days like today where his imagination was fiercer than ever. No doubt he would snap out of it soon enough... or would he?

((Edited: because I dont want Quetzal looking far too insane for his own good at the very start XD; Poor thing >> ))

Eydis rushed into the stream, following the buffalo's plan without taking a moment to doubt the idea. The cool water felt nice to her initially, but felt sore against her rear where she had been stung. She went as deep as she could manage to stand in the stream, hoping the hornets would get away from her.

"Are they gone?" she shouted, hardly being able to see while she tossed around in the deep stream. Had her hero fought away the evil hornets? Who was this mysterious hero and loyal steed bufallo anyways?

Growling, Quetzal snapped at the air with his jaws, determined to bite down on this terrible monster with his flat teeth. Already, he was feeling the pains the mare had felt; the horrible beast was slashing him to bits with his needle-like claws!

He started cursing at the monster his imagination was beginning to form. It must be so terribly gruesome that even his own eyes couldn't behold the sight!

Paco scrambled to get out of the mare's way as she dove into the river. He himself made a leap and belly-flopped into the refreshing coolness, his hide fortunately safe from the angry bugs.

"I think so, m'lady," he replied back, the mare obviously still frantic about her tiny oppressors. Turning back around, he paddled his way back to the shore and took a few steps out, wary of the bugs that still loomed nearby. They knew better than to get so close to the water though, thankfully.

"SIR! She is safe, sir!" he yelled, hoping to catch Quetzal's ear.

Quetzal heard the female in distress, and turned. Should he abandon the current battle and ensure that she was safe? No... a knight should never flee battle.... right?

Thinking over his odds, he finally decided it'd be in both his best interest and the Princess's if he returned to where Paco left her. Turning away from the invisible creature, his long, colorful legs dashed towards the river. Surely this beast would be terrified of the pureness of the water!

"I'm coming m'lady!" he called back out, heading towards their direction as he ignored the pains in his sides from where the claws had raked him. "Paco! Make sure this creature is not following me!"

Eydis got out of the water, exitting from the other side of which she came. She figured they would probably be able to fly over the stream, but Eydis could only hope they had gone away by now. Her hero must have fought them off pretty well.

"Thank you," she said, panting for air, feeling exhausting from the event. She took a moment and shook her body wildly in attempt to dry herself off. "You have saved a my life, the life of a princess. That should be quite an honor, I don't know how I could ever repay you, brave hero...whatever your name is."

"Allow me to introduce myself," she started. "My name is Princess Eydis, though my homeland is, well, lets just say its very far away from here. What is your name, my noble hero?"

Quetzal made a splash into the water, and soothed his battle wounds. He ignored Paco's grimacing face at getting wet again, and concentrated on the beauty before him. Already, his wandering mind had passed over the nonexistent creature he had just run from, and his green eyes paid full attention to the dripping mare standing before him.

"M'lady," he kneeled down respectively, once he had traveled to the more shallow side of the river. "There shall be no thought of repayment, for it is a knightly steed's duty to save those in need of rescue."

After wading back to the other side where the two horses stood talking amongst each other, the small buffalo rose from the water and gave a brief shake, attempting to dry out his soaked garment. Not only was Quetzal being his usual buffoon self, but this mare fancied herself a Princess?

His eyes gazed upon her exotic beauty, and for a brief moment, gave in to the idea. She did look foreign.. perhaps she truly was of noble blood!

Mimicking his commander's movement, the tiny beast kneeled as well, bowing his head in respect.

Quetzal mouthed her name silently, accustoming himself to the foreign word. "Princess... Eydis. What an elegant name for an elegant princess. I am Quetzal, and this is my little amigo, Paco. We come from a land far south of here, and are rather new to this area. Tell me... how did you fall into such a monster's trap?"

If she were to be completely honest with him, she'd only really embarass herself. If she lied, she would feel terribly guilty. There was only one option for her, to slightly alter the story.

"I was wandering on my lonesome when I found myself crossing into their home. I must have disrupted their peace as I caught all of their attention. Normally I'd love such attention, but they were vicious creatures that attacked. I cried for help, and no more than a few moments longer, you arrived to save the day," explained Eydis, doing her best to sound convincing while flattering herself and the hero at the same time.

"Quetzal and Paco, fine names for such great heroes. Certainly I must be just one of many princesses you have saved. You fought off the creatures so courageously!" she said, thinking the duo were the greatest heroes in the world. "If you traveled from such a far land, I must ask, are you on an adventure? A journey? A noble quest? That must be so exciting!"

"Yes... a Quest we are on, Lady Eydis." he nodded, his face solemn. "But a humble knight's quest is no concern of a grand Princess, such as yourself!"

The sun already hard at work drying him off, Quetzal shook his head, his gaze fixed upon the mare standing before him. Not some commonfolk horse, no peasant or lady... but royalty! Why... he was blessed and cursed at the same time. Honored and privileged to gaze upon the beauty of noble blood, but unworthy to stand in her presence. Oh, the confusion!

Green eyes continued to stare at the floral decorum adorning her fair skin, and he shook his head, keeping his vision low and towards the ground. Unworthy! But the maiden spirits above no doubt envied this lovely blossom. Foreign in look, she was nothing like he had ever seen before. Why, her name alone must have been stolen from an angel's tongue! Typically boastful and pompous, he held his tongue, contemplating his next words before he spoke them.

"M'lady... the foul monster who attacked you has been stopped. But... are you well? He did not hurt you, did he?"

Leaning up from his kneel, the small buffalo eyed both characters thoughtfully. He knew he wasn't very bright, but these two sure seemed quite out of the ordinary, for two regular looking horses. But then again, there had never been anything 'ordinary' to begin with, when it came to vibrant Quetz. And this mare... she seemed to play along with it splendidly, compared to the other creatures who had encountered the duo in the past. Most just scoffed at Quetzal, who remained ignorant of their teasing, and if not that, they ran away. This was definitely a pleasant encounter!

"Creatures... they don't like the look of Quetz." Paco said honestly, unsure of how to approach the comment. He himself had never actually witnessed any of these creatures Quetzal seemed to battle before... but then again, perhaps Quetzal was just smarter than him and knew what he was doing. "He can be mighty tough, and his colors tend to scare them off, by themselves!"

"I suffered only minor injuries on my...behind, but other than that I'm fine," said Eydis with a pleasant smile. She was slightly embarassed to have to tell Quetzal just where she had been stung. "And you? I hope that the creatures did not harm you at all!"

If the creatures had hurt him, Eydis would feel terribly guilty! His harm would be all her fault! Edyis would never harm a fly, at least, not when she's feeling herself. When her 'other side' kicks in, that is a different story.

"I'm certainly not scared off by his colors," said Eydis, shifting her attention to the buffalo. "I find them fascinitating, new, fresh, unique, aupreciptoritare."

She wasn't sure what the last word meant or if it was even a word at all, but she did her best to act as if it meant something sophisticated and proper, saying the word with an elegant and diligent accent.

Paco's eyes widened as she spoke. What big words she used! She just had to be royalty, to use such smart soundin' words!

"Well, that's good then!" he replied back, his short tail wiggling happily. "Because you're too nice, m'lady, to want to scare off. Right, Quetz?"

"Hush, Paco!" the stallion shook his head, his chin rising up once more. "To scare a lady... why, I'd rather face a dozen more of those fiends before attempting to do such a dishonorable action!"

He puffed out his chest proudly, overly pleased with the compliments the fair princess had to offer for him. "I will always be fine, as long as your Highness is fine. A knight is replaceable, while a Princess is not."

He nodded his head in agreement to his own words, and held his tongue about his concern for her... bottom half. It was improper to speak of such things in front of the gentler sex, especially since she was of noble blood. So instead, he would take her word for it that she would survive such the ordeal she had been put through.

"So, m'lady," he added, bowing his head once more (for it was the proper thing to do, of course, while talking to royalty!), "Where might my noble squire and myself be able to escort you to? It is the least we can do, for having put you in such a predicament as to get wet, of all things!"

PostPosted: Tue Sep 25, 2007 7:36 pm
Where might he be able to escort her? She really had no idea. There wasn't anywhere specific that she wanted to go, except...there was one thing she would want. An adventure.

"Well, instead of just escorting me, why don't I join you on your adventure?" she sugggested. "It would be an honor for me to be able to join you!"

The idea of going on an adventure excited her. Who knew what obstacles they would face? Eydis ignored the fact that she would be incapable of facing any obstacle, she only focused on the excitement of it all.

Paco paused and scrunched up his nose. The adventures he and Quetzal went on were far from exciting, for the most part... they had their moments, but they were only moments in a vast memory of endlessly journeying with no destination in mind. Not that he cared; he enjoyed Quetzal's company more than anything and was content with tagging along.

He opened his mouth to forwarn the mare, but was quickly interrupted by the enthusiastic stallion.

"But m'lady! The adventures and Quest of a knight errant are far too dangerous for a Princess! What about your delicate nature? Your gentle form? I could never forgive myself if you were hurt, or worse, and it was all because of my accepting your request!"

Quetzal was torn. He shouldn't deny a Lady of her wishes, but he worried for her safety at the same time. What to do, what to do!
