The patrol had been to go to the edge and back, and they were almost back when Tibuka seemed to notice Kai was upset. And he knew, without knowing exactly how he knew, what was wrong. The male sighed.
"Kai, come on. " He aid, but headed not for the gazelle, but back towards his den. He'd best talk to Kai and. he didn't want to be right next to the border. He didn't want to risk interruptions.

The gray female looked at him in a confused manner, but followed. She wasn't trying to attract attention, really. She was just trying to be different, for Tibuka's sake. She wanted him to be happy, and if he wasn't happy with the way she was before, then she would have to change.
That wasn't so bad, was it?

The muddy male sat next to his den, finding it would be too crampy inside for a talk. The den was mostly good for sleeping and hiding from rain. He looked at Kai, and motioned for her to sit too with a flick of his tail, soon setting it once more beside his paws.

Kailasa nodded her head, taking a seat next to the brown and white male hyena. Her silver eyes looked dead at the ground, afraid to look over at him. She wanted to, badly, but just couldn't. She felt too bad about everything that she was doing.

"Kai, look. Don't say anything yet till I'm done, ok? " He said, but when he looked at her, he did seem to realize she didn't want to look at him. Ahwell, all the better. "When I told you earlier you pounced too much, I didn't want you to get upset. I just wanted you to stop pouncing. " He shook his head slightly. The pouncing was extremely annoying.
He seemed to pause a bit, as if to think. Kai had started to become quite a lot to him(thought not in any lovey-dovey way, Tibuka just didn't bend that way). He knew he cared about her and wanted what was best. He wanted to be with her. But he couldn't do that if she always acted so.. puplike. Sure, they could be less stiff when it was them-- just them. But he wanted Kai to understand that he wasn't like that. That he wasn't a very laid-back, playful fellow. It was just for her. And even with her, there were limits. Just how would he say that? Sometimes he wished she could read his mind.
"Kai.. I want to be with you, and I.. " Perhaps he should use the word. He didn't like the word, but he'd say it for her. So long as she didn't want it all the time. "Love the way you are. But I need you to understand. I am nice around you, I can be alot less than what I usually am.. And don't take me wrong. Its great. " He smiled weakly. "But I just want you to see, the pouncing.. its just too much. I know its the way you are, but thats probably the one thing I'm not crazy about of you. " Wait. Did he just say he was crazy about her? He was not! Crazy would mean.. Hey, maybe he was. Then again, not in the stereotypical way. For Tibuka, this 'crazy about' was more like 'i like you a -lot- more than others'.
"And that if one day we're together, and someone else shows up.. Well, you'll see me act very different. This playful, fun side of me, its just for you. " He tilted his head a bit. "The pouncing.. I just don't want you to do it all the time. Its pretty uncomfortable. " He shrugged. He wasn't uncomfortable about being with Kai, but at that extent, the whole thing had frankly gotten out of hand. "I'm head guard of the pack. I need to be strong and stiff. How will I look like, if I have you constantly jumping on me, and me.. letting it. And to tell the truth, I don't like it much either, even when it is just us. It may be fun for you, but you're the one on top, not the one constantly getting more weight hurtled onto their back. " he sighed. "I love being with you. I love the way you are, but you just have to stop that one thing. Please "
He blinked, flicking his ears and perking them to show he was done. He hadn't intended to talk so much, to be so serious right now. But he had to. How else could he tell Kai how he felt? Tibuka was more of the tell, not show, in this sort of situation. It couldn't be handled by actions, like a fight could. One had to let the other know how they thought and with action.. it was hard. Too hard.

Kai listened. She listened to every word. She couldn't believe what he was saying. Did Tibuka... A quiet, yet very open male that she had met a few weeks ago, really and truly love her? No.. He couldn't of. He just said he wasn't the type of hyena to fall in love. At the same time though.. All his words.. It was like he was battling himself. He wanted to say it, but couldn't. He wanted to let it be known, but didn't know how. He wanted to tell her exactly how he felt, but was afraid to.
"Tibuka..."
She raised her head, her shining silver eyes looking at the brown and white male. Her mane was slightly drooped over her face, covering one of her eyes. Her nose twitched back and forth some and her black toed-paws moved about here and there.
"Do you really... Love me? Or... Are you just saying that?"
It seemed as though she had completely forgotten about the whole pouncing thing all together. Tibuka's words confused her, yet made her cheer up. She wanted them to be true.. With all her heart she did. In this manner, she was much unlike a pup, and more so like a very loving female, adult hyena. When it came to love, she would put everything on hold in life, and concentrate on the one whom she cared for the most.
Tibuka just so happened to be that special someone.

He paused. Perhaps he did. He thought he might. But love was a very stereotypical thing. He didn't want to use that term. It was annoying, even though the feeling was nice. "Yes. " He said quietly. "But I'll never say it. " He shrugged. He just couldn't say it. It frustrated him, because perhaps it would make Kai happier but..
Tibuka couldn't.
No matter how much he wanted to.
He couldn't say I love you, even when he did.
He looked away. It was obvious he didn't like to touch that subject with words and talking. But he could do it just once, if only so she knew. He needed her to know. He just hoped Kai could live without needing to be reminded.

He did. He did love her. Kai knew it. Deep down, Tibuka really did care for Kai, whether he fully expressed it or not. Possibly, in his own way, he did. Still, in any and all ways, Kai now knew for sure that this scruffy male loved her... And she loved him right back.
"Oh... Tibuka.." She smiled, her eyes still shining. However, they weren't bad type of shining. They were the type of shining of ultimate joy, and relief. "I love you too...."
Kai moved closer to him, putting her head underneath Tibuka's chin. She nuzzled him affectionately, her body now right next to his own. Sure, she was already about as tall as him, but why did that have to matter? Love came in all different colors, shapes, and sizes. This case was no different.
"Thank you..."

He blinked as Kai suddenly got so close, and he breathed in, drowning in the females scent. It was a good scent, and Tibuka wanted to be able to breathe it in for a long time. However, he didn't live for these moments, these precious moments where two could just be so close together. He didn't like them long. It was his way.
"Kai, I'm sorry.. " He whispered. "But I'll have to break the moment. " He said, getting up, but not moving away yet. "Because I'm still hungry. " He teased, then grabbing one of her ears, pulled away, tugging her slightly, but letting go soon enough, smiling playfully. The hunger had gone when he'd spoken, but now that the talking was done..
Well, now he wanted to eat. Quite a moment guy, wasn't he?

When Kai felt a shift in the weight that she had been leaning on, she almost fell over, looking up at Tibuka within seconds. Her nose twisted some, in a playful, yet quite serious manner.
"You awful, awful hyena, you.", she teased back. Despite her slightly harsh words, she smiled. Her seriousness was fading away and her pup-like nature was returning. However, she would remember to keep it down a notch, as she didn't want to upset Tibuka again.
"Hey! Let go of my ear!" She quickly stood up, pawing at Tibuka as he pulled, and then let go, of her ear. "You meanie. Ruining the moment like that for silly food. Those gazelles can wait."
And that's when her stomach rumbled. "Alright... Uhh.. Maybe not." She giggled and smiled, looking like her old self.

"Gazelles maybe, " He said, grinning meekly. "But I can't. "
He seemed slightly relieved when she seemed to agree. "Alright! Come on, we might even manage before it gets too dark. "Fair enough, it had gotten darker, and the sky had just started to tinge a darker blue. The muddy male blinked once at Kailasa, then turned and trotted off, wagging his tail and leading her in the right direction. This was like a beinning.
A very weird one.
