WEN, EARENDIL, AND ALKAR

The three friends watched as the unknown dragon gently placed his friend against a tree. She looked asleep, but Earendil, as a half-elf, had to wonder whether it was just sleep, or something more. The three noticed a satyr coming up, and as the dragon did not react to him as though he was an enemy, they assumed he must be a friend. The dragon who had been so helpful to them turned and beckoned for them and the satyr to follow. Earendil and Wenesse followed behind him, but Alkar came up to pace beside the other dragon.

“Friend, you have helped a dear friend of mine, and I feel that I owe you my respect and gratitude. Will you tell me your name?”

Despite his size, Tauron walked silently through the underbrush. He had acquired that skill in the many days and nights of ambushes and sneaking past enemy camps. His head was held high, but his voice was low. He soon came upon a distant area next to the river, a place where (if she woke) Mel could not hear. He sighed, and as they followed, he began to speak.

"I know all of you know about the war, and how it started, but...I must tell you of something. Melyanna has always had close relations with Dragons. All animals for that matter. She has a certain aura about her that I, myself being dragon, can say is comforting to many of us. This is proving to be difficult for her though, as recently, someone on the other side has found out about her 'gift'." He took a breath and sat down, wrapping his tail around his front paws and standing tall and regal.

After a long pause, he spoke again. Speaking of this subject worried him, for he knew she was in danger. "She is being tracked. In a way, even hunted. They want to use her to get close to Huine. We are not sure who it is, but we know it is male, and that he is human. What worries me most, though, is that he knows magic. This is what brings me to bringing you over here. I'm afraid the humans have found a new way to harness the power of the world. I'm not sure what it is put it's strong. So far, we know this man can use the power of mind control. A power Melyanna cannot fight against. I have heard from friends of mine that they have other kinds of powers as well. Powers of new elements, created of their own design. I'm afraid we will lose this war, and so....I would like all of you to join us. We must get everyone we can to fight in this battle. We must give it our all and fight until we no longer can. For the sake of life as we know it..."

R-e-d _ C a r e s s

Shirtless Shapeshifter

Rhyme followed calmly, also sitting as soon as they stopped. He took a Madonna (think biblical, not pop-star) position as he listened. What Tauron said was... interesting, but in no good way. That the humans had yet another advantage over them - ! Rhyme's eyes burned with anger - anger that covered up a hidden resentment. Oh, he could sympathize with Huine, to be sure - to have one's last egg stolen was a terrible, terrible crime - but the focus that everyone put on her when there had been so many other casualties made Rhyme rather... cross at times.

No matter.

"I've been fighting this war 10 years already. I have no intention of stopping," Rhyme said, his voice quiet and smoldering. It was clear that this was something he cared very deeply about. He would never lose to these humans, and he would never let another dragon be captured by them! Rhyme never wanted there to be another case of what happened to Reason, and he would give his heart and soul to that cause. But more than that, to finding her... Rhyme was sure she was still alive.

"Is there nothing we can do to help protect Mel?" the young dragon asked after a brief pause. Perhaps some sort of charm, or herbal pouch. Rhyme wasn't well versed in the arts of such things, but he knew there were races that were. Satyrs, actually, were pretty good with such things, as were many of the sylvan races. Apparently not Elves, though... Probably because they have magic of their own, Rhyme reasoned. Only magicless races would have need of creating it.

WEN, EARENDIL, AND ALKAR

Earendil stepped toward Tauron. “We will gladly join you in this fight. But I must also ask: how can we protect Melyanna? If this human can attack her at any time and in any place, then she is always in danger. How could this man use Melyanna’s powers to get to Huine? And who is he?”

Wen posed a question. “Is there no way we can turn the tables on this man and become the hunters instead of the hunted? Can we not try to find a way to fight against this type of power?”

Tauron nodded thanks to the two, but there was sadness in his eyes. "I'm not sure how to protect her...and it's tearing me apart inside. I see her suffer every time he attacks, but he has a way of closing her mind to me, and I cannot help her fight against it. I'm not sure what he wants with her, only that he wants to use her gift as an ambush or attack on Huine." He sighed and the tip of his tail twitched slightly, showing he was thinking.

"I don't know if there is a way to counter him, but I have been thinking for a while. One thing I have been trying is to 'meld' my mind with hers, so she has my strength before he attacks, but so far, he has not attacked while we are linked. I believe he is tracking her mind. I want you all to be careful of him. I don't know how he got this power but it is nearly impossible to resist. I believe he has something to do with the start of the war, and plans to end it by attacking Huine...."

WEN, EARENDIL, AND ALKAR

The three friends could understand Tauron’s pain; each of them knew how they would feel if their dearest friends were suffering and there was no way to protect them.

“If there is a way to protect her,” Earendil said, “We will help you find it. And if there is a way to defeat this cruel foe, we will help you find that as well; we will help you defeat this human.”

“I wish that we had a way right now to prevent your friend’s suffering, and yours as a result.” Wenesse said softly, her head lowered slightly. “I’m sorry that you two have to endure this.” She lifted her chin stubbornly. “But Earendil is right: we will find a way to defeat Mellyana’s tormentor!”

“Assuredly, friend,” Alkar concurred. “Be also assured, Tauron, that we will not abandon either of you until we have succeeded in this quest to free Mellyana from this human’s hold on her. We will stand by you and help you till our end is accomplished.”

“What do you suggest we do first, Tauron?” Earendil queried. “Should we join with the main body of the army? Or seek out the humans in order to somehow find this particular enemy? We could also search out Huine and see if she knows anything about this attacker. Or do you have an entirely different plan of action?”
