I believe the majority of the Bible is sexist. But most of what's written about how women should not excersise authority over men was written by men back in a time and place where that was just how it was. But not all the portrayals of women were bad. Jesus was first seen after He had risen by women. Mother Mary was never portrayed as a lesser figure, and now she's a religious icon. Ruth was important, she got her own book in the bible. I'm sure there's more but I haven't studied a good deal in the Bible yet.
That's true, but how is Mary portrayed? Someone who was holy and pure and obedient, who was the "perfect" virgin woman according to society.. She would not be the icon she is now if she was a "normal" woman who had given birth to Jesus.
Of course, something so holy as Jesus wouldn't come out of a woman who wasn't so "pure". Ruth was a good woman just because she left her city full of "sin" and stay with her husband's mother.
There is Esther, though, who was a leader of sorts, and very influential as well.
That was how things were back then, yes... The Bible was written by a male dominant society.. Though I've heard theories that a part of Genesis, as well as a few other parts of the Bible were written by women... Someone already mentioned several books having been written by several different writers.. Try reading Genesis and making sense of it.. It's evident it was several different writers of the same story cut and pasted together... But that has nothing to do with the topic. Anyway.

Yeah, people give us Catholics a pretty hard time, when it's usually the nondenominationals who make the most trouble.
Please remember that.
I have to agree on that..
My dad is nondenominational, and I used to go to his church.
I'd have to say that those people have the most backwards, unreal beliefs...
If you think scientologists or mormons are bad... nondenominationals are a whole other level.
