meditate on the symbolism and meaning of mabon, this is the final harvest.
I thought Samhain was the final harvest... am I wrong?
Samhain is the Celtic New Year, so I would think that it's the first harvest.
Yes there can still be harvesting to be done at Samhain, however Mabon is the biggest and last MAJOR harvest of the year. Hence the signifigance of the horn of plenty and such things to this holiday.
I was just thinking that Samhain was the last harvest (other then that is what I had been told for years) was that it is the last harvest before the winter frosts came in. There are some crops that don't finnish growing until the autumn months because of the heat you have to plant them later (as with pumpkins, I have found that the seeds like semi-hot weather, but the plant itself likes to have cooler weather to grow in.. though that is just my personal observation).
Another reason was that the celebrations were usually held after the havest was complete, so the havest of Samhain would actually be before the time of Samhain its self. So the harvest was during the previous year, and not counted as that years yeld. Even if it is just slightly.
Or something like that. I hope some of that made sense for ya'll.
