Reno began to grin as he took the cup from her hands. "Oh thank you so much!" he said very excitedly. Once again he ran off as fast as he could to the water. He dunked the cup under and ran to another area, much closer to the painting supplies than before. He dumped it out onto the sand and ran off to get more done.
After a few trips back and forth, he finally felt he had enough water on the sand to make a good sandcastle. He wanted to wait for Serenity, but he wanted to get started also. After a quick decision making, he decided to go ahead and start. He filled the cup with the mud and packed it in there tight. It was just about perfect to make a sandcastle. Reno hoped he hadn't put to much water on the sand so that it would just be all watery. But he did fine. He then took the cup and turned it upside down. He then smacked it against the ground in some normal sand a few times until he felt the mud come loose. He then pulled the cup off and there stood a perfect cup-shaped mud pile. He began to squeak with excitement as he went for another cup full of mud.

Serenity finished packing her things as quickly as she could, then looked around for Reno again. She saw with surprise that he wasn't where they had been earlier: their two little piles of wet sand had been abandoned. She wondered if he was in the water again, filling the cup; but as she scanned the water's edge she couldn't see him there either.
"Uh oh," she murmured softly to herself as she turned in a little circle on the spot, searching for him. He wasn't by his father either, and her brow furrowed with worry. Where could he have disappeared to?
She took a few hesitant steps towards the water and kept looking around. She wanted to find him, wanted to call out for him, but she didn't want to attract the attention of anyone else who was at the beach. She didn't want strangers looking at her ...
But if she didn't she might not find him, she reasoned with herself. And with that thought, her decision was made.
"Reno?" she called out quietly; then again, more loudly. "Reno!"
She paused and looked around again, waiting for a reply.

Reno twirled around as fast as he could. He then realized that he forgot to tell her that he had moved since the other pile of mud. As soon as she said his name, he stood up and called back to her, "Over here!" he said smiling and with a wave of his hands in the air. He was surprised she couldn't see him, though he did move. So it was done. With that, he then sat back down and made the second tower of mud a few inches from the first.

Serenity whirled in the direction of Reno's voice and broke into a relieved smile when she spotted him.
"There you are!" she giggled, heading over to him. "I thought I'd lost you!" She knelt beside him and watched him work, her brown eyes filled with curiosity and interest. "What part of the castle are those?" she asked, pointing at the two sand piles he had made. She had never seen anyone making a sand castle, after all.
She wondered if it would be anything like a real castle.

After she had arrived, he was happy to see her interest. He then said, "Well, these are the first two towers. There are going to be four. Two there and one right here, and here." As he stated, he pointed into the sand to leave a little hole where he was going to put the other two. He then scooped up more into the cup and slammed it to the ground, tapping it until it was loose. "You want to try? Here." he said smiling, handing her the empty cup and backing away. "All you do is fill the cup up with wet mud, and do what I did. Just slam it on the ground and then tap on it until you feel it let go. Then just pull it off." He tried to sound as professional as possible. He then looked over to see if he could see his father. He did, and surprisingly, he was still asleep. Reno had never seen his father sleep so much.

"Okay," Serenity smiled, taking the cup from Reno. She did as he instructed, filling the cup with the wet sand. She filled it completely full and packed it down to make sure it was all good and solid, then turned it upside-down and held it so that it was nearly touching the ground, right above where Reno had pointed to where it should be.
"Here goes nothing," she giggled, tapping it lightly on the bottom.
The sand didn't move.
Her brow furrowed with confusion, and she wondered what she had done wrong. Then Reno's words came back to her ... ' slam it on the ground and then tap it ' ...
She lifted the cup a little higher and slammed it on the ground as hard as she could, then tapped the bottom gently. The sand fell out of the cup and spilled all over the place.
"Oh dear ..." she murmured, blushing furiously. "I guess I didn't do it right ..."

Reno saw as she was doing things. He smiled the entire time. He was happy to have gotten her into something at the beach. Might not have been swimming or splashing. But the sandcastles he hoped she'd be having fun at, and it looked as if she was, but who knew but her.
He then saw as she spilled the sand. He instantly burst up into laughing and said, "Oh it's alright haha. It was only an accident. A funny one too! But here let me try to see if I can do it again." he said and he sat next to her and took the cup. He then filled it once more, and did exactly as before. "There, haha. Now you try. But this time don't slam it so hard. That might have been your problem. You do want to slam it, but not to much." he said smiling.

"Oh ... okay," Serenity smiled, perfectly willing to listen to his correction. She was an odd sort of child, she knew from her classes at school that most children didn't like being told what to do; she however felt that the only way to improve was to listen.
So she did exactly as Reno directed her, being careful this time not to slam the cup down too hard. This time, the sand came out in a nice neat tower shape, just like the rest of them had turned out. She dropped the cup in her lap and clapped her hands excitedly. "I did it!" she squealed happily. She looked up at Reno, her eyes sparkling with happiness. "Now what?" she asked him eagerly. "Are we going to make the merlin walls? Portcullis? Keep?"
One thing was certain: she knew her castles.

Reno smiled and clapped along with her. He was happy that she seemed to get it down right. He then heard her question. He didn't know what to say. "Well, there are going to be walls. But not to great of walls haha. And I don't know what the rest of it was." He didn't want to sound stupid, but he really didn't know what all those things were. He just knew how to make a sandcastle, four towers, and thin walls with little sticks and things like that sticking around. He just took some of the wet mud and shaped it into a wall between two of the towers. "There! That's how you make a wall!" Reno seemed to be quite proud of his newly build wall. He was happy that it turned out alright.

Serenity leaned forward a bit and held her hair back with one hand, inspecting the wall closely. It looked good and sturdy, and she nodded and smiled. "I like it," she murmured.
She smoothed out an area of sand next to them and drew in it, a tall wall between two towers that had the blocks and empty spaces along the top. She pointed at the top of the wall and smiled at Reno. "That's a merlin wall," she explained. "They have it like that on top of the battlements so that they can defend better against attackers, and protect themselves at the same time."
She drew an arch in the wall, and a metal bar gate in it. "And that's the portcullis, it keeps enemies out," she added with a smile. "And the keep is the big building in the middle of the courtyard, where everybody lives and does their business and stuff."
She smiled again, happy to be able to share her knowledge with her new friend. For some reason, she felt she had to explain her knowledge, and she added, "My Mama came from a castle, I learned about it there. But she doesn't live there anymore, her brothers are mean to her."

Reno watched as she drew in the sand. He began to smile and nod every time she'd explain. It was interesting. He liked the fact that she knew what she was talking about. And as she drew the next picture, his smile grew into a grin. He really did like learning all these things about castles. He began to close his eyes as she talked, nodding the whole time, trying to imagine a real castle.
Then she told him a bad thing about castles, or the castle that her mother grew up in. The fact that her mother used to live in one was cool, but her brothers were mean. That wouldn't be fun at all. Reno opened his eyes and the grin turned into a frown. What was he to say. "Oh my...I'm very sorry to hear that. Right now I don't have any brothers or sisters. Just lots of pets that roam the house and things. I hope I get a baby brother or sister soon. But I hope I'm not mean to them, and that their not mean to me." he had forgotten all about the castle they were building and now he was interested in family situations. "Do you have anyone that's mean to you in your family? Any brothers or sisters?" he asked curiously. He just wanted to know if all brothers and sisters were mean. So that he could truly want another. If they were all mean, than he'd try very hard to stay an only child. He liked being alone, but he also wanted someone to be able to play with.

"Oh, no," Serenity shook her head firmly. "I have two brothers and three sisters, and they're all nice. Celebor helps me with my reading and writing, and I help Skye, and I paint and draw with everyone else, and we all play together ..."
Then again, she was told that there were some who considered them to be an unusual family (it never occurred to her that that might be because there were three elves, three angels, and a human).
"We have some pets, too," she added with a smile. "A puppy and two firebirds and a reindeer with wings ... and Celebor has a dragon."
Or he would, once the egg finished hatching.

Reno lit up with excitement. He was happy to know that there were nice families out there. He smiled and said, "Well, we have two cat-like things called Picy's that are named Lexi and Leone. Those are my dads. Then theres Callie. My grandma's cat. But they're naturally called a Ulaya. And I have a birdvern. It's name is Malfaisant. He's awesome. Oh! And we have a fox-fish. It's name is Renard. He is no ones. He just lives with us. My daddy found him when he went to a carnival! Well, he won him. It was great! I didn't get to go though. But that was alright. He said he didn't have much fun anyways." Reno just smiled and left it at that. He was finally getting interested in how families worked. Since all he really had was his grandmother, father, and what were supposed to be his aunt and uncle. Though they were really just close friends of the family. Plus the pets. So, it was unlikely that his father would decide to adopt another child. Though, EJ was rather bad when it came to enough is enough. He'd just go out and see if he could get any child he could. He wanted to make sure all children were safe. Well, that's what Reno had overheard him and his grandmother talking about. But so far, EJ only had Reno to worry about. Reno then pondered the idea of having brothers and sisters. Who knew though, when that day would come.

Serenity watched Reno with amusement as he went through the list of his pets, smiling softly, her eyes sparkling. When he finished, she giggled a bit. "That's a lot of funny pets," she told him. "I never heard of any of those kinds before ..."
Not that she had seen many animals besides her family's pets, and her grandmother's pets (and her grandmother had a whole lot more than Serenity's family did ... probably near twenty or so).
Her eyes flickered over to where Reno's father was sleeping, and she watched him curiously for a few moments before turning her attention back to Reno. "What's your papa like?" she asked him anxiously. "Because I think I'm going to be getting a papa soon, but I really like him just the way he is now, and I don't know if I want him to change to be my papa ..."
To be entirely honest, she didn't know if papas were the same or different before they became your papa, and she wanted him to be the same ... but would he be? And if he did change when he became her papa, what would he be like?

All Reno could do is smile and giggle when she said that they were funny pets. "Well, you should see them. We get random pets from people who don't want them anymore, or so my daddy says. Because all of our pets have just ended up on our porch and we don't know where they come from. But we always keep every single one we get. We love them all to much." He said smiling.
When she asked him about dad's, he looked over at EJ and smiled softly. "Well, My dad's the best. He takes me places, like today, and he lets me sleep in his bed and watch TV sometimes too. Well, his room is the only room with a TV, so whenever I want to watch, I just go in there and watch it. He doesn't mind if he isn't watching something already. Dad's are a great thing to have. I don't have a mom though. I do have a grandma. My grandma is awesome. She's my mom I guess you could say. She takes care of me like one. It's cool. She bakes me cookies and cakes and everything. But we run a Cafe...so that's why. You should come by sometime. It's in the Human world. It's a good place to be! We have good food and good drinks. The name is...umm...what was it again. Oh! Concoction Cafe! My grandma owns it. She makes all these awesome drinks for people! I have my own special drink that she made that she only makes me. It's awesomely good hehe. Oh but we're not talking about her...hmmm...what else can I say about my dad...he's great...ummm...well, what is your new 'to be' daddy like right now?" He was so excited to tell her all about his home life, that he almost forgot to ask her the same question.
