Is this still going? I know it's past the date, but there's been no announcement, so I thought I'd try anyways. Here's my entry just in case. If it truely is too late, at least maybe people will enjoy it. ^^ honey.roasted.ferrets Name: Taibhse (Tai-vshe - means "ghost" in Gaelic) Personality: Haughty, very full of himself, but not in a mean way, he just doesn't know how else to be. Powers: The ability to know what others fear, the power to create convincing illusions (any sort, not just of another's fears), minor telepathy (strongest when the other is projecting fear).
Prompt 1:
Your god boy is still a kit, and has wandered away from his family. In his wanderings, he walks up on a couple other kits playing. What does he do?
Taibhse wandered through the forest, exploring. He had managed to give his parents the slip earlier, on the way to the meadow to play. He didn't know why they insisted he play with the other kits, they all just cowered at him and did whatever he said (as they should, he admitted), and after a while it got very boring. He knew their fears, and every single one of those kits had a single fear in common. Their fear of him. Even his parents, who truly did love him, were wary of him, because when he was in a temper he tended to project illusions of the things those around him feared, to get them to leave him alone. It was instinctual, and he was getting much better at controlling it, but the damage was done. He awoke from his musings at the sound of laughter from behind some bushes. Laughter was not a sound he heard often, unless one counted the nervous laughter of his regular "playmates" when he was around, which he did not. Curious, Taibhse peered through the bushes. On the other side were two kits, a boy and a girl, playing happily in a shallow stream. The girl, who looked to be pale gray under all the dirt, was cheering on the black-and-gray striped male as he tried to catch some of the tiny fish that lived in the shallow water. Taibhse wondered why anyone, even a kit, would ever want to act so silly. It wasn't like food was hard to come by, and the little fish would have never provided more than a taste anyway. He was about to turn and leave when he stepped on a stick, causing it to crack loudly. Both kits stopped playing and looked in his direction. He cursed himself for being seven different kinds of a fool, and stepped regally out from behind the bush (or as regally as one can who has just been hiding behind a bush) and waited for the fear, the cowering, the end of all laughter and happiness that always occurred when he was around. To his bemusement, the two strange kits did not react as he had anticipated. They tilted their heads in curiosity, and walked up to him, walking in a circle around him. He held his head high, facing forward, unsure how to react in this situation but his dignity keeping him from asking any questions. All of a sudden, four paws planted themselves on his back side and pushed, and he found himself tumbling tail-over-toes into the stream. He let out a yelp of astonishment, leaping to his feet and turning to face his attackers, only to find them rolling on the bank in a fit of giggles.D'you see 'is face! 'at was great!Yeah, 'e looked like 'e'd just swallowed a frog 'at was still alive 'n kickin'.I did not! He sputtered. How dare you! Do you have any idea who I am?Yeah, Lord Drenched, that's who! crowed the male, ignoring his own soaked and now filthy state.Or maybe Lord StuckUp. added the female kit, not to be outdone. Taibhse just stood there, blinking at them uncomprehendingly. Was it possible? Were they truly unafraid of him? Well, he could see that that was true. The girl kit was afraid of spiders, ants, and many other bugs. The boy was afraid of heights, and of a bigger kit that bullied him often. But neither kit had any fear whatsoever of him. He didn't know how to handle it, no one had ever not been afraid of him before. So, M'lord. If you don't like our names, what shall we call you? I'm Esmi, and this is my sister, Yumi.Taibhse pulled himself up again, announcing proudly I am Taibhse, Lord of...Tai it is! replied Esmi, cutting him off, while Yumi hopped around her brother chanting Tai, Tai, our new friend's Tai! over and over. Taibhse, who had never had a nickname or a friend before, had no idea how to react. For the first time in his life he had no control over a situation. So. d'you wanna play with us? asked Esmi, as if he were just another kit. As if he were, in fact, a friend. Taibhse felt a strange expression stretching his face. After a moment, he realized that it was a smile! Not a sneer, or a sarcastic grin, but a genuine smile. And that, as well as a funny but not unpleasant feeling in his chest, decided him. He didn't know what would come of this. Eventually Esmi and Yumi would discover who he really was, and then they too might come to fear him. But, at least for this afternoon, he could just be Tai, a normal kit.I'd love to. He replied, splashing both other kits with his paw, and running away as they yelped indignantly and then tried to splash him back. So, what do people think?
